I've had three shoulder surgeries, breathing issues, and back issues. In dealing with these issues, EmPower has been by my side, on my side, helping me get strong again. Carla Beam, who is the General Manager at EmPower, has worked with me through all of my challenges, by altered my personal training sessions to meet my needs. She has worked with my physical therapist to ensure my workouts are helping my body and that I am not doing things to extend my recovery, which I probably would have if I was going to a 'normal' gym. As I write this review, we are three months into the COVID pandemic. Most of my friends are struggling to keep their strength training going, but I am actually getting stronger. When this all started, EmPower did not let their members miss a beat! Josh and Carla quickly started brainstorming and came up with a plan to keep members engaged and working out in their homes. They have offered live Zoom sessions many times throughout the week that have been awesome! I have been working out with EmPower about three times per week since this started, and I am amazed at the quality of every workout. I have very little equipment at home; however, Carla has come up with alternatives to using your typical gym equipment. And, every single workout has been different! I am very grateful to the EmPower family for helping me stay fit during these crazy times. EmPower is not just a gym, they are truly a personal training and wellness center. The parking lot is huge and there is no problem. The courts are well maintained. The space between courts is manageable. There is a stadium court with bleachers. We didn't play there. The facility has Porta potty, or you have to go inside the facility at the main entrance to use the restrooms.the locker rooms and restrooms are very nicely maintained. The staff is very friendly, and then I used one of the places to use my laptop and got the wifi password as well. There is a pro shop that carries a lot of tennis essentials and racquets, a stringing machine too. They do carry occasional racquets on sale.

As a Hempfield resident for 15 years I've had many interactions with the Rec Center. While I've…read morenever been a member, I've attended free classes when they were available, went on a bus trip they offered, had my daughter in the after school childcare program they run, as well as a dance class. More recently I've paid a per person daily fee to use the pool, although it does also allow you to use the entire facility. One thing I will say is it is aways crowded, no matter what time or where you are in the building. Classes fill up quick. Swimming classes are booked several months in advance, and the lot is always full. One thing that is disappointing, hence the 4 stars instead of 5 is the before/after school program. While when my daugher was in school it was available to any parent that needed it. Now, they have limited spots and no opening. My grandson has been on a wait list now since August and it's now Feb. That sucks for working parents! And it could very well be a sign of the times post covid, with employee shortages. The indoor pool is wonderful. I have yet, even after all these years been to the one outside in season but I'm sure it's equally as impressive. The indoor pool is large, and while you do need to check the schedule for free swim times, they do have it roped off for laps. I believe it goes to 13' and has a diving board. There's tables/chairs around the pool to put your stuff and a changing area in that area. There is also locker rooms down the hallway. The ladies has a dry sauna, showers, and a machine that rings out your suits. I especially like that pool toys, floats, and swim aids are allowed, as I take my three young grandchildren, none of which can swim. You do need to bring your own towels, etc. I do think the pricing is high for membership as well as a $10/per person daily rate if like me you just stop in to use the pool. The $10/pp was firm, even for my one grandson who is an infant. Still a great place to patronize. Check their website because they are very community minded and some of their special events do not require membership although they might have a small fee.

I definitely need to give Calvin praise for being an amazing trainer. I have made more progress here in 6 months then I have in my whole life trying other gyms/trainers.

The final straw was when he showed up 16 minutes late and still tried to count it as my session. Then the following week he double-booked me and had me work out with someone else. I left in tears. Back in May, Brandon and Brooke told us this was resolved, that I wouldn't owe a remaining balance, and that I could cancel. Yet I'm still getting emails saying I owe money. My husband has also repeatedly asked to speak with the mysterious "Kev," and despite multiple promises, we've never received a call. It's frustrating to pay a premium for a service that wasn't delivered and then have to fight just to get the issue resolved. The way this has been handled has been incredibly disappointing. I'm posting this in hopes that maybe someone will call us back and finally help us settle this!

I can handle the crowded atmosphere and limited space by the free weights. That comes with the price point and should be expected. The big turnoffs for me were the smells and things seeming unclean. Judgement free zone when you're talking about people's fitness (unless you get the infamous "Lunk Alarm"). Cleanliness doesn't get a pass. The gym had the essence of many people on the move. Only about half the members were wiping down the equipment when they were done. Saw someone getting sick in the bathroom when I went to wash my hands. I know these things aren't directly caused or controlled by the Planet Fitness or the staff but they are a result of the business model and the environment. On the positive side, they have lots of treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals. You'll probably find one of those open anytime. The rest is hit or miss at a peak hour but you'll have options. The best part of Planet Fitness is the price. You can exercise here for less than the competition; except the outdoors.
