Today, for the first time ever, the owner told me I have to use a tap card to pay, instead of the ordinary insert/swipe card I've been using for years. My bank (a large regional bank) does not issue tap cards yet. So I had to put the bottles back on the shelf and drive across the street to Big John's. I know tap cards are trending but have never encountered a store that forced their customers to use them. Seems like Tip Top has hit rock bottom ... and just lost a loyal, long-time customer along the way.

With the success of his shop he has now launched a wine club, 4 bottles or 2 depending on what you're in the mood for and it's available monthly or quarterly. What's great about a wine shop offering a wine club is that it's not devoted to the same wine vintner over & over again, and it's local which you can scoot by and pick up your wines or have them shipped. Griffo is fantastic with offering up both fabulous live music and DJ's. On nice days the warehouse door slides up offering more seating and quite often a tasty food truck. Though due to ownership changes we were told we no longer could have our event as planned and needed to find a new venue less than a month out from our large event. Without hesitation Kat said absolutely we will do whatever we can to accommodate you all. Rewind several months back and Kat reached out to me to see how we could collaborate. She wanted to ensure her space was welcoming, inclusive and a space that everyone, especially those in the LGBTQIA2S+ community knew they could come to and feel and be safe and have fun. With pre-planning for our event Kat was down to earth, easy going, personable and did all she could to try and say "yes" to all of our needs. She went out of her way to ensure that all of the kids at our event were safe and that there was space for everyone. If it was not for Kat and her team our event would not have been able to happen, which would have been very challenging for our organization, as our event is what helps financially sustain us throughout the year. I stopped to grab some snacks before getting on the freeway. I noticed the place was well stocked with wines, liquors, and various other beverages. However, it looked like the snack area was nearly cleaned out. The clerk was very friendly, and I asked about the price of some domestic liquor. He was very knowledgeable, and told me all about how foreign tariffs can affect domestic alcoholic products. We had a very interesting chat. Free parking in lot.

I love local wines, but this Italian girl also loves exploring and trying these imported Italian wines and provisions too. Variety...the spice of life! The owners are extremely knowledgeable about all the wines they carry. Need a recommendation? Just ask! I've been in a few times so far to purchase Italian wines and treats including Antonio Mattei Biscotti di Prato (the best biscotti ever!), torrone (a nougat confection), pasta, and tomato sauce. They also carry Italian sardines, olive oils, cookbooks, wine decanters, and more. Large, excellent selection of high quality wine from every region in Italy. Piedmont, Sicily, Tuscany etc. etc. they are all covered and in EVERY price range. I have bought numerous bottles based off the recommendations of the owners, all have been exceptional. Add in a large selection of French Champagne and Italian sparkling wine and you have a truly unique assortment of Italian wine and French Champagne. If that was the extent of Ciao Bruto it would be great but the provisions part of the store is awesome! Specialty Italian ancient grain pasta in all shapes and sizes. Believe me, you can taste the difference compared to chain store pasta. Also a large assortment of tinned fish-shellfish, honey, spices, vinegars and oils, pickled veggies, various pestos and sauces, flour, chocolates and others confections, pasta making machines, Italian cookbooks and a whole lot more. All this imported from Italy! You can't quite completely "grocery shop" there but you can get specialty food, wine and provisions you simply can't get anywhere else. Ciao Bruto is the creation from the people next door at Idlewild Wines, also makers of great Italian Piedmont varieties such as Dolcetto, Barbara, Nebbiolo, Arneis etc. all grown in nearby Mendocino County. Service at Ciao Bruto is friendly and very helpful. Not sure about Italian wine, French Champagne or specialty food from Italy, no problem, just ask for help from Courtney whose expertise is French Champagne or Thomas whose knowledge is all about Italian wine and food.
