Fred's is basically your bare bones diner. The food is decent but it's diner food so it's never going to be exceptional or blow you away. I went went with the bacon cheeseburger. It had TONS of bacon. A bit too much honestly but it was a decent burger. It came with potato chips and a dill pickle. Again, decent. Nothing special. I see all the 5 star reviews but I just don't think a traditional diner with this type of food deserves 5 stars. It's decent food but it's not life changing. read more

Okay, three stars is still A OK, so don't get all twisted First, this is a really small place, quaint or cozy. It is dated and the booths are small. We had 6 people in our group, took an hour to get a seat. That is to say very few seats for the amount of folks trying to get in and not really good for groups larger the... 2 - 4. Service is pretty good. Once we were seated they were pretty attentive. Food, if you like bacon, you will love it. Great pancakes. Issue with corned beef hash, canned. Had to visit Fred's Diner after reading the reviews to get my own opinion. The neighborhood place is old and small with flowered wallpaper. But it's clean and super friendly from the servers, busboy and customers. Wanted to sit at the counter or in the front room which was the original and not the back crowded room which had an open table. So we waited. After 10 minutes we were seated. The menu had a nice variety, and the full size breakfast plates were very good. Our coffee cups were refilled three times! Service was with a smile from everyone. A delight! read more

In from out of town and found this hidden gem. Don't let the outside fool you. It's worth heading in to check out. Small, so of course busy, but worth the wait. Handful of tables and some counter service. Broccoli and Cheese soup was delicious. Grilled chicken salad was more then I could eat and was also delicious. French toast was also great! I'm torn! IDK how I feel about fred's! The people were really nice and the food was a good portion and tasty... but it is kinda... old looking and... like we didn't have silverware for a while... and the coffee wasn't too good - kinda weak. My sandwich was really tasty - fried buffalo chicken sandwich - had two big chicken pieces - really good sauce - really tasty. Hubs didn't care as much for his sammy but the man never likes stuff - it's in his genes! Still the place had a very comfortable feel - and we settled in a relaxed. The place was beyond packed. It's been a few ticks of time since I was here. They all revolved around visiting my brother and going back to Ohio. The first time I found out about this fabulous breakfast shack was when I was asked "Do to like bacon?" Well, yeah. I subscribe to Bacon Life. I'm in the Bacon Of The Month Club. I have Bacon pajamas. Greasy spoon is not derivative. It's a compliment and an homage to something that gives us all pleasure. We roll in and place our order and I've never had a bigger bad ass portion of Bacon..evers.The most generous portion of swine. 8 pieces! You just have to pause for a moment and be grateful. This is truly a one of a kind gem. The eggs are cooked perfectly, corn beef hash, potatoes and pancakes are on point. My brother passed a few years ago but If I'm ever back here again I will be all up in here. A classic example of never judging a book by it's cover. BYW, your fitness goals will be destroyed. I have tried to go here late Saturday mornings and it has been too busy. Sunday at about 830am I was able to walk in and seat myself. Really wanted to love Fred's but it was not great. Positives: actually good diner coffee, warm lighting and the overall vibe. I ordered a ham, cheese, and tomato omelette and they committed two dastardly deeds: (1) too much tomatoes and too much ham and (2) the immediate buzz killer of unmelted cheese. They served what looked like a whole beefsteak tomato in my single omelette and its cold temperature cooled the whole omelette. I could live with the abundance of ham but all that filling overpowered the eggs. A big mess that may please volume eaters. Hash browns were very good; well boiled to almost mashed and then fried golden brown with just the right hint of butter. Not at all greasy like so many dives. White toast perfect buttered and hot. Not sure if I will try taking my kids here. read more

A REAL DEAL old skool local diner. Since a long time ago. A local recommended this non-descript little white clapboard shack to get a hearty breakfast brunch in town. Upon arrival, my city-sophisticate snobbery immediately turned up. I was leery of the rundown appearance of the place, a hybrid between grandma's old dusty curtains and vinyl chairs and booths that probably belonged back in the 60's. But, the place was PACKED to the gills so I kept an open mind. We were seated in the back area- which looked like someone's converted living room. I felt odd but I wanted to judge the food and service more than the appearance. We ordered the breakfast plate with corned beef hash and the sausage breakfast sandwich with biscuit & cheese. HOLY COW. The food was absolutely SOLID. 5/5. Piping hot and fresh from the kitchen, both plates landed on the table at the same time. We dug into the food with a fervor and excitement because it looked SO GOOD. And guess what? It tasted SO GOOD. Overheard from the table next to us who was on the phone talking to a friend: "Guess where I am right now? What's my favorite restaurant? Yup- Fred's!" Service was nothing short of perfect. Genuine and friendly. The staff worked nicely together with respect, and helped each other out. We left a 30% tip. read more

Whatever it is, it's been A LONG TIME since they place had a makeover.....if ever. Now the food? OMG, the food. It's your typical greasy spoon diner. You're not going to find no fancy salmon eggs benedict here but you will find some food that is overflowing off your plate, that fills you up and leaves your wallet still with cash in it. Also, the honest truth here is the waitstaff isn't the friendliest but you know what, who cares. I'm here to eat and leave and they give me my food quick and my check quicker and I'm OK with that. My husband and I went to Fred's Diner on Sunday for Breakfast. When we arrived we were hesitant but based on the review, overlooked the building which is in need of major renovation and went in. The place was full and we had a table in the back room. It was cramped and not the quality of restaurant we are accustomed to. The waitress took our order and disappeared. She eventually returned with our drinks. We waited for awhile longer and the food came. She left the bill on the table with the food and that was the last we saw of her. David's pancakes were burnt. The bacon was dry and hard. My toast was soggy and the home fries were overcooked. The only thing that was editable was the one coke we received and the small amount of eggs that were on my plate. Needless to say we will NEVER return to this restaurant. If Flurries were open on Sunday's we would never go anywhere else. read more

Fred's is the perfect place to wear the outfit you had on the night before and a pair of sunglasses, and eat deliciously greasy diner food that will make you feel like a total champion again. There's always a line at the door, but as their tshirts say, customers know to eat, pay, and get out. I've never waited more than 10-15 minutes for a table.
