UNACCOUNTABLE! During my visit to Fred's in Abbotsford I dealt with their salesperson Griffin where I purchased thousands of dollars worth of sturgeon fishing supplies last year. During our conversations he suggested helping me in all aspects of this type of fishing including accompanying me on an outing with the promise to help pay $50 for a portion of the fuel cost, but failed to do so. Griffin also brought is friend, Sonny. To reciprocate my gesture I was offered an opportunity to join Griffin on an outing on one of the boats he guides. I patiently waited for over a year with repeated requests for him to deliver on his promise, it was clear he had no intention of reciprocating. I'm not one to stand by and be taken for granted. It has become apparent that Griffin lacks integrity, accountability and credibility. He even went as far as to threaten and instructed his friend Sonny to harass me sending messages with threats, further demonstrating childish and immature behavior. read more

I was in the Abbotsford store this afternoon to grab some flies and look around at a few other things. This store is fantastic, great selection and super friendly staff. When it was time to checkout one of the staff (beard, hair combed straight back) had finished his shift however he stopped on the way out to process my purchase. Very friendly and engaging and even though he was clearly done for the day and on his way out the door, he took time to chat and I didn't feel rushed at all. These guys are awesome. We visit Chilliwack every year for salmon fishing. They are always willing to give us advice, they know the regulations, and where to go for the best fishing. We ran into Joel on the lower part of the river. He offered advice on how to fish that area. He went as far ask re-stringing my line after I got snagged on a rock. freds tackle is a rip off everything there is $50-200 over priced. I bought a Simms G3 jacket i paid 399 at a diffrent fishing store and at freds tackle their $454.53 with out tax. Plus Freds tackle staff are all rude and unfriendly. They always are rude to me and they ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO RIP YOU OFF. One day i asked if the have pliers that are on a rope so you wont lose them. The replied why would we sell that we are trying to make money not loose money we want people to loose it so the have to spend more money. Plus dont buy their pre-ties they come on a blue piece of foam, i bought a set of the 15 pound test one and while using it i found the line snaps with way less then 15 pounds of strength. The pre-ties they carge are $15 . I had a broken reel and took it into Fred's at the recommendation of a friend. The guy there went into the back and rummaged around. He came out with the reel fixed and said: "there you go. That should work!" When I asked he what I owed him, he said "no charge. I founds spare parts." A guy like this I need to stay in business, so I found some flies, because you can never have too many, and a couple of other things to buy. Great service. Great selection. Great prices. I walked into the Vedder location and asked for my annual freshwater license and TWO workers, very rudely, would NOT give it to me without an angler number, which is a complete crock of shit. I worked at a fishing store and have issued HUNDREDS of fishing licenses, I've fished since I was a kid, and if you don't have an old license you simply just re-register. 90% of the time the system finds you and your old number, anyway. They didn't try and search for me or anything. They basically told me it was the same as a hunting license, if I didn't have my number I couldn't fish and I had to contact the system to get my old number back!? How dumb are you? They were extremely rude about it, too. They're complete know-it-alls, who in fact(surprise!) don't know anything. He sat there trying to tell me all the rules as if I had never fished a day in my life. I literally walked into Canadian tire 10 minutes later and got my freshwater license, AND my old angler number(wow!!!!! A miracle according to them!!) with nothing but my drivers license. You really ought to teach these workers proper customer service and that trying to make a customer feel like an idiot is not ideal for your business. When I told them where I used to work and how I used to issue licenses myself, I was laughed at and told "well, that's why!" as in I didn't know anything from working at that store, because it *apparently* takes rocket science to issue a damn fishing license. A monkey could do it. I don't know if it's because I'm a woman and they think I'm clueless, but I know how to buy a damn fishing license. I was treated like garbage. I will have 100% not be back. Bought a new Shimano Convergence in August for the Sockeye run. Used it a couple times, had the rod for less than two weeks and it snapped. Clean break about six inches above the seam mid cast, obvious warranty issue. Brought it back expecting a replacement rod...... Didn't happen. They had to send it back to Shimano, Ok, told it would take up to 4 weeks for replacement. Had to buy a new rod, or, miss out on the run. Bought a new rod from them. 2 and a half months later I go in to find out what is going on with the rod. They had it, didn't call me, and then had the nerve to charge me 22 dollars to get my rod. Telling me they are only the middle man.... Middle man my a$$, I bought it from Fred's. As a middle man they charge for the shipping. I get it, if I had the rod for years, but two weeks..... Ridiculous. Never going back read more
