Sometimes the play area is quiet, and other times it seems like everyone in the city shows up with their kids to hang out. The top floor (very smartly) would be better for the adults seeking some quiet time. And although it is not part of the library itself, my kid enjoys the playground and the sprayground in the summer (both just outside the library). There are also plenty of nice food shops in the area, so it makes for a fun outing.

First off, this library is huge! Two whole floors, and it's very well decorated and maintained. The kids area is going to be what gets us coming back over and over. It's in it's own area and has lots for kids to play with including giant Lincoln Logs, foam blocks, a stage for performing, a play kitchen, and more. Plus all of the great books! From what I saw, they have a great and inclusive selection for kids. And another bonus.... The library is (obviously) free! This is definitely worth the visit if you're looking for a spot to take your kids that'll be guaranteed fun and not harsh on the wallet. My four year old and two year old had a blast so we'll definitely be back.

Steilacoom is pretty small but I really love Steilacoom. It's kind of a gateway city to DuPont,…read moreLakewood, Tacoma, University Place and Joint Base Lewis McChord. Steilacoom is the oldest incorporated town in Washington. A lot has changed since 1854, but I like Steilacoom because it is very old and the citizens do quite a bit to preserve the aesthetic as well as the culture of the olden days. I've used Steilacoom to ride the ferry to Anderson Island which is a small and nice get away and a close enough ferry rather than driving to Point Defiance or Seattle to get on a ferry. You can also catch the ferry to Ketron Island and I'm not quite sure if they actually still do regular ferry runs to McNeil Island now that the prison is closed and only violent sexual offenders are housed there now. One other thing I like about Steilacoom are the views. If you stand at the edge of town either at the ferry dock or at the little pavilion/park they have up on the hill behind the tennis courts you can get a magnificent view of the bay and may even be able to see the Narrows Bridge from where you stand. I think if I had real estate in Steilacoom, it would just be worth it for the views as well as the access to the beach. I usually drive through Steilacoom as a way to forego getting on I-5 when there is traffic and I just don't feel like dealing with it. This actually happens a lot since we all know about the I-5 traffic. One last thing that helped me fall more in love with Steilacoom was attending their annual Apple Squeeze. I thought it was really cool to see old-fashioned apple cider presses being used to make your own apple cider by hand. It really allowed you to see what it felt like to make juice the way possibly the pioneers did as well as see some of the old-fashioned machinery. Check out the historical society if you visit or take a ferry ride or just take in the views. You won't be disappointed.

This town has really grown and doesn't have some of the older comments that I heard about and…read morealmost kept me from moving here. I heard that it old run down, it was a drug center ,on and on. I can tell you first hand after driving around seeing nice homes, new apartments, newer strip mall center, great looking schools. My first was AM I MISSING SOMETHING ? So off to the police dept, great team of officers and staff. If this town was so bad, I even like old town part, keep thinking new growth will take over. So, great place for families, small town feel, you found a home.

The only thing bad that I can say is the planning dept knew the state was going to be buying our land and the new home we were building and took our money for paving a dirt road! 2 weeks before moving in we got a letter from the state saying they needed to buy our property we hadn't even moved into yet. The county knew as well and still gave us permits. Long story short we have purchased another home in Milton and plan to stay the rest of our lives.

Everything is efficient, streamlined, and as long as you have all of your things in hand you can usually get your permits issued on the spot. You can pay with your credit or debit card. Just fill out the necessary paperwork and you're off to the races! Most questions are answered right there. Dealing with city hall is a breeze! Oly, you're a bright spot. Don't change a thing.

But as its settled in, and gotten kids pictures in the windows, and hanging flower baskets, and just a little more worn around the edges, its become better. I was NOT happy when they made the homeless kids not sleep there late at night/ early in the morning - they were gathering there to be safe and to avoid the unhealthier parts of homeless life! But the city has since funded some shelter beds for specifically the young adults. Yay, go Olympia! The front desk people here are very funny and I always enjoy interacting with them. :)

I have visited after it's reopening. My son's school had library days once a month during the latter part of school year. If your child go to school in Tacoma, then they most likely have a library account through Pathways. It allows them to check out 5 books at a time. We have joined the Summer Reading program. There are museum passes here if you want to go with your library card. That is awesome for the library system offers this! I will update this again because I need to take pictures and inquire about more things this library offers. So far I put materials on hold and pick them up. They do offer hotspots to checkout. Those are high demand. Those take a while to get. This library is closed on Mondays. This library is on the bus line. However some residents can ride the bus or ride their bikes to the library. There is some parking spaces at the entrance. I definitely believe this public library is worth visiting and staff here are awesome. They are very eager to help.

They have a Walmart and a very nice movie theater which last time I checked doesn't take debit or credit cards. It's such a quaint farming/livestock community. Very clean and it seems moderately safe.

That being said, I like the small town feel of Yelm, and like going to some the business's here including Quiznos.
