I walked in there with a very sore neck and shoulders and walked out feeling like a new woman! The atmosphere is calming and relaxing, always clean and a Candy treat at the end of my massage! Marilyn was always concerned about my comfort, even turning the heat off on the bed when I told her I was too hot. The Swedish massage she gave me was wonderful, I felt pampered! Would I go back? I have been coming to Sara for laser hair removal treatments for over a year now, and she is an absolute peach! She explained everything the first time, so I knew what I was getting myself into. She is very knowledgeable and will make you feel comfortable the whole time. I haven't ever gone anywhere else, nor will I. I have also had Freya, and she's wonderful as well. As much as I don't want to leave a 2 star review here we go. I have visited Fredrick's a few times while I lived in the area. I've always enjoyed the atmosphere and the girls are always so nice! I had drove 2 hours to come to Wheeling to see my normal hair stylist who had a family emergency and had to cancel. I completely understand. I give Fredrick's a call and by luck they had a cancellation to and could fit me in! Everything went great and I did enjoyed the stylist! My hair looked good leaving! Nice and curled, I saw some brassy tones but I know that's expected as my hair tends to pull those tones. The following day I go to style my hair and find this! I specifically asked for a balayage. This by no means is a balayage but more and ombré. Keep in mind when I did call the receptionist said "well I do see you were in as an ombré". Even if that was the case this is not an ombré! Again, not what I asked for or the photos that I showed. I'm angry at the fact there is no way this was missed as my hair was styled. Between the blow dry and the curl it was seen but not corrected. The salon did refund me only the cost of the color, which I do not feel is reasonable as I now have to pay more for a color correction! Had I known this is what my hair truly looked like I would have asked for it to be corrected before I drove 2 hours back home. I choose 2 stars as I do like the girls and the atmosphere but when you pay for a hair service (which isn't cheap) you expect it to look professional! read more

I'm not one to post like this normally, but I feel I need to share because of my injury. Today I scheduled the "Spatacular" massage at Frederick's Day Spa in Wheeling. I've had this massage several times in the past, along with other services there, and it's all been great. However, today was different. When the masseuse put the sugar/salt scrub on my back, it hurt quite a bit and felt a little glasslike, and by the time I got home, I had a lot of pain on my back. I asked My husband and my mom to take a look and the photo includes what they found. I called Frederick's to let them know something wasn't right. After forwarding the pictures the manager, Monica, who responded with "Oh my gosh!" upon first sight, she told me she would call me back. When she did return my phone call, she said it wasn't their fault or their product that did this. It wasn't human error. Instead she said it may be because I just had a baby -- however, when I booked the massage, I made sure it was ok to get this massage 2 weeks postpartum and as a nursing mother. After reassuring me for the third time that it wasn't Fredrick's fault, Monica ended our conversation with a superficial apology. Sadly, I will not be returning to this day spa - ever again - and I would recommend that you consider before you book your next massage there as well. Used to love going here. I have a very short pixie and cannot justify $55 plus a tip for a routine hair cut every 4 weeks. More, salons and spas are not places for political and religious talk. My last visit was my LAST when I was forced to listen to the stylists political views while she cut my hair. Not to mention during election time, the stylist was wearing a face mask with her favorite political figure printed on it. I DO NOT CARE. I do not care what peoples opinions are, honestly. I've been coming for years. I love Fredericks. However i have a few recent concerns. This new barbershop area is taking away from the old feel what I and my friends have always loved about the salon. The decorations and comfortable seating by the beautiful fireplace are now gone. It's so uncomfortable sitting over near the barbershop the seating is uncomfortable and having people squeeze by me as they're trying to sell products just isn't the same. As well as having to look down cause looking up means looking awkwardly at guys in the barber chairs It's loud while sitting there the way they barbers slam the chairs to raise their clients The other concern was from my husband who has gone to the barbers a couple of times. He was getting a razor shave and he was shocked at how much the floor shook and shook the chair he was in as another barber walked around while his barber had a razor to his neck shaving definitely not a good feeling Please please look into fixing these issues bring back the old seating area that we all looked forward to having a drink by the fireplace especially during the holidays when it looks nice make it what it once was I have actually considered going elsewhere but that's a hard decision as I've been coming for years Thank you I and my friends really really hope you strongly take this into consideration Bring back the relaxing ambience that Fredericks use to offer read more

Called me literally six minutes (11:54 is time of voicemail) before I walked out the door and cancelled my appointment. It was at 12:30 so it isn't like the stylist wasn't there or called off. They have pretty hefty penalties for canceling in less than 24 hours but it appears they can cancel indiscriminately. Just unbelievable. . read more

I had an appointment on (02/08/22) for a full head of highlights, that is the only thing that me and my stylist discussed in our consultation. I get sat down and my stylist, which I may add was a "master stylist" said to me "this is so-and-so, she's a student and she'll be helping me with your hair" I was never asked If it was okay to have a student work on my hair, but I still had to pay "master stylist" prices(which are much higher) even though this student did most of my head. I asked for lots and lots of blonde hair, my stylist even said that with my hair being the color it is, that she would definitely be able to get the blonde I asked for. An hour goes by and at this point she's not even doing full highlights, she was doing partial. The highlight started at my roots, and went to the tops of my ears, the rest of my hair was left out, yet I was charged for a full head of highlights with a master stylist. But I received a partial highlight with a student. ($148). Once she has my hair all washed out, she blow dries it and offers curl it for me. I thought she was just being nice and wanted to curl it. My hair is super thin, so it took her a max of 5 minutes with a max of 7 curls in my whole head. I get up front to pay and my total comes to $186. My stylist was standing over the receptionist watching me pay almost as if she knew she did something wrong, I even left a $30 tip because she was just standing there watching. I ended up paying for a master stylist and a full head of highlights and I didn't get either. I ended up calling Fredericks the next day. The receptionist told me that I was charged for a full head of highlights and a wash, cut, and style. First off, the wash is included in have any color put on your head, secondly, my hair was never cut, not even trimmed, and as for being styled, she most certainly did not style anything. The hair I got, Is no where near what I asked for. She took my information and said she'd get the manager involved and call me the next day. I get the call today saying that I will only be refunded $39 for a "wash and style" yesterday it was a "wash, cut and style". She told me there's nothing she can do about me paying master stylist prices and not having a master stylist work on my hair. I was never offered to speak to a manager, and a manager never took the time to call and see what was wrong. I paid over $200 for a few blonde highlights. I found out about Frederick's from a friend via Instagram. She tagged her nail artist that works there, so I went to her page and she had a link to book an appointment with her at this establishment. I spoke with the receptionist on the phone to verify the appt. I drove AN HOUR AND 20 MINS to this salon and when I showed up, I had my children with me. (My husband was at work and I don't have any other help really.) I was told that I was unable to get my nails done because I had my children there with me. I even spoke to the manager and they REFUSED to let me get my nails done, just because my children were there. I have taken my kids to several hair, nails and doctors appts. My oldest helps with her younger sister any time we're at an appt, I explained that to the manager and they still rejected me and told me they have a strict no kid policy. While booking through IG there was ZERO policies shown about children and when I spoke to the receptionist on the phone, nothing was said to me then either. After leaving, my six year old apologized to me thinking it was her fault I was turned away from getting my nails done. An hour and 20 minute drive just to get turned away. If I could give this place less than one star I would! I WILL NEVER GO BACK. After seeing the reply from the owner, I want to add in that I NEVER once received an email regarding policies upon booking my appt. If that was the case, I wouldn't have driven an hour and 20 minutes with my children to go to my appt. I check my email multiple times a day and have checked every mailbox, there is not one single email regarding policies. read more

I have always felt very pampered and special when I get my hair done. Jason is my hairstylist and I have never had a bad experience. I have very thin, fine hair and he knows exactly how to cut it so it looks full. My color is always on point, never brassy or streaky. I had never been to Fredericks. I received a gift certificate and I waited 1 year to use it. I always thought "who needs $200.00 gift certificate & what would I even do with it" Well....let me tell you. I LOVED MY EXPERIENCE AT FREDERICKS. I received my very first facial (I'm 61 yrs. old) from McKenna (she explained everything and was so gentle and kind) my 2nd facial was with Susie (again gentle & kind and explained everything) I am going back for more. I had a lip flip (what! me!!!!) yes Deidre explained everything to me and what to expect (ok, it hurt) but well worth it. Then I got my hair cut by Brandy. I wanted a Master Stylist to give me a great haircut. (Last year I had cancer and my hair grew kinda wild and grey. She explained what she was going to do and did a great job. My wife and I made an appointment over a week ago. They just called me this morning, the DAY of my appointment, to tell me the girl I was scheduled with doesn't do men's hair or use clippers. The woman on the phone said she "Just noticed". Why was this appointment made in the first place if she doesn't do men's hair???? Also why was I not called sooner??? The whole reason I called them was because a friend, a MAN with short hair gets a clipper cut from the girl I scheduled with and now all of a sudden she doesn't do men's hair and cancels my appointment mere hours before I was to go in. What is wrong with this place? They charge you if you don't give them 24hr notice to cancel so maybe I should charge them for wasting my time today. I have to leave work early now for NO REASON and lose hours of pay because of them. I don't have PTO here. Total BS. And I still NEED a haircut!!!!! Horrible management. I used to be a client at Frederick's for years and would utilize their hair and brow services. I also went there for my makeup and hair for my wedding. I loved going there and always felt welcome. I also love the Amika products they sell and purchase them frequently. Now, I'm a teacher at a residential facility and a first time mom to a seven month old little boy. I felt like I had a fallen into a rut and needed a little pick me up. I decided to book a brow lamination and tinting service for this morning since I was off from work. I arrived on time, checked in, and was waiting in the waiting area until I was called back. After five minutes of waiting, the receptionist came over and told me they would have to reschedule me for another date and time when I had a babysitter because I brought my baby with me. I was told that they don't allow children under a certain age; however, he was sleeping quietly in his Doona carseat. I stated that I did not care to reschedule. I believe that this is completely messed up and uncalled for all because I brought my child to a hair salon. I know that it won't affect them whatsoever in the long run, but they have lost my business and respect. read more

This review is solely of the eyelash extensions I got this past weekend. I will preface this by saying I have always had wonderful service and have been completely happy with all of my other experiences at Frederick's (manicure, pedicure, massage, spray tan... I would give all of them 5 Stars) - so that is why I felt like I would be satisfied with booking a lash extension appointment there. The extensions cost $190, which seemed to be a pretty fair price after looking at a few other area salons. I booked my appointment and we got started. On the site, it says the process will take up to 90 minutes. I was taken to a room just off of the main lobby with a curtain separating the two spaces. Needless to say, it was noisy and not relaxing at all. The technician, Shaymaa, had me lay back and she put the gel pads under my eyes. She started by wiping my eyelids off, but some of the liquid got in my eye, causing it to burn for the rest of my appointment. The application process took a little less than an hour. I was very disappointed with my results. To me, they look like very natural lashes that are glued together at the bottom. I like the look of the false lashes I was buying at CVS better than these. My eyelashes feel very hard and sharp, like the extensions they used were plastic. I cannot separate some of my lashes now for fear of ripping them out. She also pushed me to buy a $98 eyelash kit at the counter, which I declined - and then told me I HAD to buy a $55 eyelash conditioner. I ended up spending about $60 more than I anticipated, and I am *very* unhappy with the results. I will be going to another salon to have these lashes removed and a new set put on. I considered calling the salon and expressing my displeasure, but I have talked to other friends who had the same experience and were asked to come back in - so I don't believe that will be worth the time or effort either. read more

This is my daughters second time getting her hair done for a school dance. Both times she has come home very disappointed with her hair. She has to start over and do it herself. She did have the same person doing her hair both times. If I would have known that she was getting the same person again we would have requested someone else. I would rate this place with zero stars if I could. My first experience here was getting my mother a gift card. The lady at the front treated me like I was an inconvenience. Okay. Maybe she was just having a bad day. Fine. Then, my mom went there to use her gift card. The staff were very short with her. They made her feel like she needed to hurry up and leave. She got a massage, which she did say was fine. Not great, but not terrible. She also got a pedicure. It was hideous and she didn't get a foot and leg massage, exfoliation or any skin treatment with it. They just painted her toenails. They didn't even do that right. Her nails were not filed or smoothed, and her little toes didn't get any polish. The girl who did it apparently wasn't skilled enough to paint small nails. She actually told my mother she couldn't paint them. What?? Well, again, I gave the place another try. This time with hair. I wanted a new look and my step daughter needed a color correction. I asked for their best colorist for my step daughter because her mother lets her do whatever she wants to her hair, and it was wrecked and horribly blotchy from her not knowing how to apply color. They sat her towards the back behind a partition and I couldn't see her. I had no idea what they were doing. The lady doing her hair did ask me if the color my step daughter picked was okay, which I appreciated. While my hair was processing color, I stepped back to see her. She had color on her hair, but her hair looked like a knotted mess and she didn't look happy. I asked her what was wrong, but she didn't want to tell me. I told her I couldn't help if she didn't tell me. She stayed quiet. She is a shy girl and doesn't like to make people feel bad. So, I let it go. When her hair was done, I could tell it was not a color correction and it was darker than the color she picked. The woman told me it was because she had to go darker to cover the blotches. Well, you could still see the blotches! It looked awful. Now she just had darker hair with darker blotches. I also got my step daughter to tell me after we left that the woman put the color on, rubbed it around in her hair and then tried to yank a comb through her hair. She started crying when she told me. She said it hurt and when she told her it hurt, the woman told her it was fine and she'd be done in a minute. Um, NO! If a child tells you it hurts, you find a way that doesn't hurt. I asked for a manager and complained. I wanted a refund for her hair and I wanted it fixed. All they offered to do was dye it darker if we could come back tomorrow. We already had to drive 45 minutes from where my step daughter lives to get her there. AND I was also told that the lady who did her hair was NOT the best they had. She was a bottom level hairdresser. She wasn't even a mid-level colorist! Ridiculous!! As for my hair, I asked that the girl try something different. My hair was halfway down by back and layered. I did my hair in loose curls. I told her I was ready for a change. I wanted something creative but not tacky because I work in a professional environment. She chopped my hair into nothing more than a dark chocolate colored, straight bob. There was zero creativity in the color and cut. I mean, I liked the color. It suits me. It just wasn't really that different from the color I already had. For a bill of over $200, I expect way more than a bad dye job and lackluster hair design. Oh, and one more note: what the heck do slutty pictures have to do with hair?!?! You look like you run a brothel, not a salon. Have some class and self respect, ladies!! I think I have given this place a fair try. I will not go back and would never recommend it to anyone. Terrible customer service, poor quality in everything and apparently now trashy, too. This review is focused on the nail service I received. I am just stopping by in Wheeling, and decided to get a manicure based on the overall positive Yelp reviews of this day spa. The spa itself was very cute, and I loved the complimentary coffee bar. The people were lovely and friendly, and prices were very reasonable. I knew I wanted nail art, and was told my technician, Lydia, was great wth nail art. Unfortunately, I am not happy at all with my service. Every manicure I have ever received included a (usually brief) hand massage. Not this one. I wanted ombré nails, which is a gradient of two colors blended together seamlessly. What I got was a paint job that is blotchy, uneven, and unattractive. I left the salon feeling very confused- Lydia spent a lot of time doing my nails, so I'm not quite sure how I left with such unpleasant nail art. She also cleaned up the nail polish, and yet I have nail polish around my cuticles. When checking out, I quietly mentioned to the receptionist that I was not happy with how my nails looked. Rather than asking me what I didn't like, she told me she thought they were very pretty. Maybe Wheeling, WV has different standards in term of quality of nail art- but I do not feel like I have "very pretty" nails. It's also confusing, because Lydia had a vertical gradient on her middle finger, and it looked lovely. I'm not quite sure how I got the mess I was left with. I am sure this place is great with manicures where all they do is paint your nails one solid color- but the nail art is a disaster, and you will leave very unsatisfied. read more

I've been going to Fredericks off and on for about 8 years now. One of the reasons I liked Fredericks so much is that they do a nice job for a good price and I've always liked whichever stylists I was with - except for this last time. I live in Pittsburgh, so it's over an hours drive to this Spa - but I go because I've always had a good experience. The last time I went I got a new stylist - Diana. I told her I wanted highlights in my hair and she told me that highlights "would look walmart-y". Implying that I would look like trash if I got highlights thoughout my hair (within 5 minutes of meeting me) didn't impress me much. Worse was the awkward 2 hours that followed because I insisted she do the highlights anyway (normal highlights - nothing crazy). Diana didn't speak more the a few minutes during the whole appointment and even stopped a few times to send a couple text messages on her cell phone. At the end of it all, I have to admit she did a decent job but her lousy attitude and poor customer service definitely sullied my experience with Fredericks. The worst of it all was that she charged me $160 for a highlight and cut - much more than I would have expected from this salon. I don't think I'll be making the hour long drive back to Fredericks in the foreseeable future given the price gouging and terrible attitude. read more

Fredricks Salon and Spa has been around Wheeling for quite a number of years and has a great reputation in the community. After a few strike-outs at a local Pittsburgh salon I decided to try out Fredricks because I have a friend who always has fabulous haircuts and I found out she frequents this salon. I went to Sara Dunn, who is super friendly and had my tresses all fancy in no time. It was a really good haircut experience and can't recommend her highly enough. I felt very sure that she knew what I was asking for, what I was talking about when I described what I wanted, and that she wasn't going to give me a "mom hairdo," as I am always anxious I will accidentally get (I look a lot like my Mom; one wrong snip and we look like a mother-daughter best-pals PSA). Sara was also a straight shooter in terms of recommending hair care products for my new cut. She hooked me up with one spray they had in their shop, but she was also straight forward in telling me about what they didn't have there that would work better for my needs. I like that kind of integrity in a stylist. In terms of atmosphere, Fredricks has a cozy little day spa vibe going. There is a shop just inside the entrance with myriad hair, nail, and spa products. The hair cutting area is clean and uncluttered. The gals manning the phones are unbelievably friendly. Between my call to make my appointment and my courtesy appointment reminder, I think I experienced the nicest phone manners of my life. The ladies were just as kind in person. Being an unapologetic coffee addict, I also love that the spa has a full coffee bar in house and they will whip you up a complimentary caffeinated beverage, with a surprising number of options. I was also really impressed with the prices. For a nice haircut, it was really affordable. I'm not sure if I got a deal because it was my first time or because I mentioned that a friend suggested I try their services, but I think it cost about $25-30 total for my cut before tip. Another quick mention: parking is in a large gravel lot across from the entrance at the side of the building. There is ample space, which is a real luxury coming from Pittsburgh. Look for the door with the awning, which is the main entrance and is not on the Edgington Lane side of the building. Overall, my experience at Fredricks was really relaxing an nice and I am looking forward to my next appointment. read more

I came in for a simple massage but was meet in a friendly manner however I had to make an appointment and come back at a later time. Well I went back and the massage was alright as I can say I've had better but wasn't the worse either. What did rub me the wrong way was I was quickly up charged for services. The overall atmosphere is presented as high class and prices seem to reflect that. If you are going for a day to just spoil yourself then you've probably found the right place, yet if you wanting quality value for you money then your return on investment will just be average at best. I unexpectedly had the day off work yesterday so I called to see if I could get a manicure and pedicure. They had openings, so I also scheduled a Brazilian. I loved it as soon as I walked in. The people at the front desk were really friendly and they have a coffee/wine bar so you can have a drink while waiting. They did the Brazilian first and I was nervous because I had only been to the same person in my home state for this and was worried this may be more painful. It wasn't at all. It was actually much less painful than what I'm used to. Next I had a pedicure and she did an excellent job. She suggested a massage or a facial, and I was having such a nice time I added a facial on. After the pedicure they did the manicure and did a great job with that as well. Then I had the facial I had added on which almost put me to sleep, but that's a good thing. Overall it was a really great day. I was nervous about going because it was new to me and I don't know anyone here to recommend a place but I'm very glad I spent my day here. Whenever I'm back in town I will try to visit. read more

I made an appointment to get my hair cut and colored at Frederick's while I was on winter break and was lucky enough to get in the next day, though that's not always a guarantee. I have been to Frederick's a few times in the past, though it was several years ago and it seems that a lot of remodeling has been done since. My appointment was with Natalie and we discussed the best way to get my hair from the red/copper color it was to the blonde close to my natural color that I wanted. We decided on all-over highlights that would blend well when my hair did start to grow out, which was quite the project considering I have the thickest hair and it reaches down to the middle of my back. (There is an added cost for the use of additional materials, though that is to be expected when working with as much hair as I have.) At the end of our five hour session, she knew all about my family and I learned all about her background in hair. Natalie was incredibly patient with the task of taking the tiniest of sections of my hair to make sure everything was even and accounted for, even when she was still working an hour after close. (Apparently I was booked for a root touch-up, which would have only been 1/100,000 of the process, though thankfully no one was scheduled after me.) While my hair was setting in the added 10 pounds of foil (when I thought my hair couldn't be any heavier to begin with), I enjoyed a smoothie from the wine/coffee bar, definitely an added bonus. I could not have been happier when she took all of the foil out of my hair and dried it so that I could see it. I love this place. I tried it many years ago (2003 or 2004) when it was in a different location and was not as pleased. NOW? It has definitely changed. I have had massages, manicures, pedicures, and my son gets his hair cut there. The staff is SO nice every time and the girls at the front desk are very kind and helpful. read more

The salon has a nice environment and is clean. The staff is friendly. Jason did a great job with my very difficult hair.

Shockingly disappointing experience. I've been going to Frederick's for years, but as I now live away from the area, I now stop in periodically. I had my appointment scheduled almost a month in advance and arrive 5 min. early for a highlight. The stylist is working on makeup for another client and is right near the waiting area, so clearly sees me in view. I understand appointments can overlap and have no problem waiting ten minutes. However, I ended up waiting 30 min. without anyone saying anything to me about the wait time. Meanwhile, the stylist is casually chatting with her makeup client, sharing stories about rabbits. Not a word is said to me about being with me shortly or apologizing for the wait. I spoke with the receptionist whose response was, "we were wondering why you were still waiting." When the stylist does take me back, 30 min. after my scheduled appointment time, she doesn't apologize for the wait or mention anything about it. Worse still is that she did not consult for any length about my hair color, briefly asked what I was thinking without showing me color options, and then mixed up the dye. I sat waiting for dye to process while she went to work on another client....and never came back. I was shampooed and dried by an assistant. The assistant did more than the stylist, so it's unfortunate she wasn't my main contact. The receptionist seemed to realize the poor service by the stylist in making me wait and did give a discount for the wait, but I'm very disappointed in what seems to be a drop in customer concern by the salon. read more

Very unorganized! Depending on which staff member you speak to it's a different "rule". Not to mention apparently my business isn't valued since I can't get a return phone call back! The only good thing about this place is that Sarah S. is amazing! Unfortunately the poor desk/management service is horrible. Save your money and get your services done where at least people don't roll their eyes at you and treat you like you are unimportant. read more
