The front desk or customer service at the TJ location was rude and not helpful. A nice man picked up the phone when I called, but the woman who was listening in the background and responding loudly enough for me to hear needs to find a job that doesn't deal with customer service or interacting with people. We recently moved to the area and were looking for a pediatrician. After doing some Google searches, we chose this practice based solely on their high review ratings. We assumed they must be good--but we couldn't have been more wrong. I should have used Yelp. It honestly makes me wonder how they have such stellar reviews on Google. Do they write their own? Do they incentivize people to leave glowing feedback? Is the sky blue? Too many questions, too few answers. The doctor was acceptable--she was decent, but nothing exceptional. The real issue was the front desk. Absolutely horrendous with capital bold H. They act like they're there because they have to be, not because they care. They require records from your previous provider and refuse to see your child without them. You send the paperwork under the false impression that your child will be cared for by a quality pediatric office. Instead, they mishandle the documents and botch the appointment scheduling. One issue after another. Honestly, I won't even waste more words on them. In short: if you're already an established patient, maybe it's fine. But if you're new and looking for a pediatrician--look elsewhere. You will save your sanity and thank me later. read more

Where do i even start..from the very beginning even before my kids came in i had already been experiencing issues with this place. They new patient registration process is a literal nightmare. Theres so much run around for no good reason. My old pediatricians had to send and resend and resend my daughter's records before they finally said they received it. They are not on top of managing their faxes. After over two months of this back and forth, they tell me they cant get my daughter signed up unless i register my other daughter too. We just relocated to the area so i was still in a probationary period with my job. Our first few visits were gonna be out of pocket so i didnt feel the need to get my other daughter seen if she wasn't needing an appointment. After telling whoever i spoke to from this office, they said they'd have to "check if that's allowed." Like what do you mean?? You're gonna force us into a doctors appointment for my other child who is completely fine before i can get my other daughter seen who wasn't okay at all? Because the registration was SUCH a process, even though i really wanted to go elsewhere i decided to stick to it and just get her seen. We finally did the appointment, paid in full at check out then a month and a half later, i get a text from the office saying we have a balance due. How on earth is that possible if they wouldnt have let us walk out of that appointment if we didnt pay in full? We came back in for another sick visit today and after talking to the front desk and billing they said they forgot to add 2 codes to our last visit. If that's the case, why are we responsible??? I manage a dental practice, i know it's different but if i forgot to add 2 codes to a patient's visit i CANNOT bill them months later if it was a miss on our end. It would simply need to be written off. For the record, it was $25. It wasn't about the amount it's moreso about the patient experience and everything that had already happened leading up to this, they still decided not to write it off and if we're already paying out of pocket for everything the least they could've done to make things right to write off $25. Then they later tell us that the other codes weren't right either and it shouldve been even more so they basically told us they are pretty incompetent in general which shouldn't be my problem. During the actual appointment the doctor barely even looked at our daughter, her name was dr.dev or something. She was also coughing during the appointment which was concerning... i don't know i just would not recommend this place. Please go somewhere else if you want a pediatric office that actually cares. read more

Knowledgeable staff open times for walk ins. Staff is good about listing and answering questions posed as well as being good with kids.

If you are a new patient, it is really frustrating to register. You need to send an email and wait a long time for a response, which is often incomplete. When you call the staff, they simply say, "We do not know." read more

If you have children there, I would find another practice and if you are looking to switch there I would avoid. All 3 of our kids have been seen there. We have had great experiences with Mariah Bucher and Kari Pratt. We had the unfortunate experience of having to see Allison Anderson, NP. After many times explaining I felt there were something wrong with my child's breathing after a bought with the flu, I was told by Allison she would not prescribe a steroid for use with a nebulizer and "he sounded fine" and "you need to use honey, that's what I do for my kids". She insisted he was fine and said "get a chest xray and you can see his lungs are clear". Well after going with my mom gut after being dismissed by her and Dr. Koerner at his 9yo check up (I brought up he had a consistent croup like cough) we saw a pulmonologist at Children's last week who immediately noted he had a narrow airway and immediately needed to start a bronchial dilator bc he failed the breathing test with respiratory therapist. He asked if I had ever asked for steroids when he was sick or brought up the consistent croup cough I said I did at both appointments and was dismissed and told his lungs sound fine. To his point he said anyone who examined him should see that he has a narrow airway and it's like trying to breathe through a straw. I called the office manager to let her know about this (again) and expressed how upset I was that my concerns were dismissed and that they could go ahead and request all records from the pulmonologists office to see the supporting documents. A week later now I received a letter from the practice that I was being dismissed. I was able to show that they failed to do their job and provide the care they should, and in turn that was how it was handled. What could have been a teaching and educational moment for all of their staff turned into 3 patients being dismissed, citing "we know you are unhappy with the care you are receiving". read more

We have been patients (sons 6 &2) since our first was born. We loved the personally of Dr. Dhote and my nephew was a patient. 6 years a lot Has changed. With the exception of the women who sit at the front desk on TJ, no other staff member even seems polite. I feel rushed and annoyed if I ask a question. It seems like they just want their co pay and out. I complained a year ago and felt brushed off, I'm done. We signed up with a new doctor today. read more

We have been patients here for seven years, but unfortunately they don't require their staff to wear masks. I was there today, and 5 staff members had their masks under their chins. This is the fourth visit where we've seen staff members without masks. I've already sent feedback through their automated system, and I talked to the office manager over the summer after the third time we saw unmasked staff in the office. I think this is just their standard of care. We love the doctors and PAs here, we are really sad to be leaving... but we would rather find a new doctor than have our infant get COVID from his doctor's office. read more

I had the worst experience here. It's a huge practice and you never see the same practitioner. They almost accidentally gave my son the same vaccine twice. I could never reach them by phone and had to keep calling. You have to fill out this tedious profile before each visit. It's so time consuming. I definitely don't recommend this practice. read more

I have had my children here for almost five years (since their birth). Since Covid began, their front desk has been a complete disaster. They require online paperwork prior to a portal that locks you out constantly. Twice in a row for appointments we have been locked out. My husband works in IT, we are not idiots. we understand online portals. Yet when we call, wait for half hour to speak with someone, they do not believe when we say we are actually locked out and cannot complete paperwork. Then they say we will have our appointment cancelled. The level of unprofessionalism is astounding. If it was just the doctors and nurse practitioners, I would be happy with our care. But this front staff is horrible and completely ruined our experience. I am switching all three children to a competent office. Stay away! read more

My LO had been going to this office since he was born but I'd grown increasingly dissatisfied with Dr. Chea. She has a nice bedside manner but otherwise her attitude was strangely between nonchalant and over reactive. We had to prod her for a medicated cream to clear up the rash G had for months instead of her solution that we try a Similac formula when I was clear I'm not comfortable with commercial formulas. Also, we were constantly referred to specialists for minor issues without really any explanation. Because of this, I decided to visit another local pediatric office to see how we fit and asked for a copy of G's records to be sent there. He was scheduled for a routine checkup but before the appointment he came down with a cold. Since he hadn't been to the new practice yet, I called FPA for a sick appointment. I was told that since I'd requested a copy of his records be sent to another practice, his chart had been closed and FPA would no longer see him. REALLY? Talk about taking it personally that I want a second opinion, LOL! I've talked to plenty of moms and it's common practice to shop around for a pediatrician that you feel is the best fit for your family. Not to mention they never told me G's chart would be closed if I sought a visit elsewhere. Needless to say, good riddance! I'm glad I followed my gut and am taking G to another practice. The only reason I gave FPA a second star is for Cindy the NP/lactation consultant. She has a wonderful, gentle way with the babies and I had complete confidence in her. No wonder she's booked far in advance. There is another nurse whose name I don't know (appeared to be of Caribbean descent) that usually took G's vitals who was also warm and friendly. read more

We are a Military Family who recently moved to the area and are very happy we established with Dr.Swinton at the Urbana campus as primary care for our children. He used humor to establish trust and took his time and addressed our concerns during the visit. The front office is pleasant and accommodating as well! My wife and I have been using FPA shortly after our almost 13 year old was born. We also have a 9 year old as well. While there always appeared to be a revolving door of "doctors" at this practice if you can find one that you like you can certainly try to make an appointment with that specific doctor. This practice does not go out of its way to make sure that you see the doctor you have requested. Often times that not, you are seen by whoever is in the building when you visit. You can forget trying to establish a patient/doctor relationship. These doctors will never know you children. During the "exam" they will have their electronic devices in front of them. With that said you will be lucky if they look up from their devices and actually examine your child. Again, often times than not you child will be examined based on the notes in your child's electronic file from previous visits. Again, these "doctors" will never know you children. Countless times we have taken our kids in for sick visits where we have to beg to get a Rx to treat our kids. These doctors make pre-judgmental decisions on what your child has without examining them. These doctors act like we don't know our own kids, what symptoms they are experiencing, what they have and what is needed to get them better. I count on more than one hand the number of times we have taken our kids into this practice only to have to bring them back within 2 weeks because they were misdiagnosed or the doctors refused to prescribe an Rx. After all of these years of playing their games with our kids we have concluded that this practice is more about making money, scamming the insurance companies out of more money then they are entitled to based on what was or wasn't done at each visit. Their fraudulent billing practices was the end of our rope with them. This practice is run as a for profit business and will do everything that can to "pad" your insurance claims to extort as much money as they can from your insurance company. Buyer beware. Trust me you want to find a different "doctors" office to look after your children's well being. read more

I switched jobs so comes the insurance changes. We had Kaiser for years so we were pretty spoiled with customer service. The switch was not smooth starting from when I made the first appointment with Frederick Pediatrics and they forgot to tell me that the doctor I chose to see is at a different location on that particular day. I had a toddler and a baby, even though the baby was the one being seen that day, the staff had nothing to do with my toddler who was asking harmless questions (like I said spoiled by years at Kaiser where they included the big brother all the time) The whole atmosphere of the place lacked compassion. Then came the move to another state. When I called for medical records I was met with hostility. I tried for 3 weeks to get medical records and had they either did not understand what I was asking for or just plain rude. I understand there are protocols but if my faxes to request medical records are not getting there then I believe there's got to be another way. I explained multiple times that I needed these records sent to me because the state I moved to has a law that in order for kids to be enrolled in school, they need a physical performed by a physician in the state to which I received a response "just send us the school's fax number and we will send the records to them" It was overall a frustrating experience. Finally my husband called them and got the records within an hour. To which begs the question why? Was it because I am an immigrant with an accent, or because female? I work in healthcare and hate to say this about fellow healthcare workers as I know the job is hard, heavily regulated but I wish they treated customers/patients better. In my experience, when you are nice to patients, half the job is done. People just want to be treated with respect!!!! read more

Have been going to the Thomas Johnson location for years and have never had such a horrible experience as I had this morning. We received a garbled message yesterday evening but couldn't make out the appt time. Called 3 times today only to find out 4 minutes before 8 am that my appt was at 8 am. We got there 10 minutes late. We were 2nd on the list. They told us to wait to be called, not because they had other customers at the counter but because they were on the phone. They called for the person in front us and nobody responded they then called us up. It's now 8:25. She asked what we were there for it was just a med check up (which normally only takes us 10 minutes) and she tells us we can't be seen now and will have to reschedule for another time (an hour and a half later). I tell her how we attempted to decipher their message and called 3 times this morning only to be met with an attitude like I just threw their whole day into a downward spiral that will at least take and hour and half to right that ship. I don't think I have ever had such a horrible experience. She was so unaccommodating, rude, and disrespectful. I'll be back there in an hour and a half but only for my child to be seen. I think a change in doctor is coming soon. read more

My son just turned 1 year in the begining of January 2012. I have been taking him here and never had a good expeirence. I am in the process of finding of a new doctor's office. We see Dr. Singh and love her, however there is nothing else about this office that is good. I called the on-call doctor 3 times in one weekend and never recieved a call back and the office manager said "I don't have a answer as to why you didn't get a call back". It takes a nurse at least 2 hours to call me back after leaving a message. My son was given a prescription, the nurse said she was sending it CVS. When I went to pick up the prescription, guess what.....they never recieved it, thank god it wasn't something he needed right away. The bad vibes start as soon as you walk in. The office staff who checks you in and out always look like they are having the worst day of their life, I don't think I've ever seen them smile. I would recommend everyone stay away from taking their child here. read more
