I want to start by saying that the dentist himself is fine - he seemed competent and professional. However, my experience with his office and billing practices was extremely disappointing, and that's why I'm leaving this review. Before treatment, the office told us that our insurance wouldn't cover much and asked us to put down a large upfront payment. Later, when we received our benefits statement, we learned that we actually only owed about 20% of what they'd asked us to pay. When we contacted the office to request a refund of the overpayment, they claimed they had not yet received the insurance payment. This was especially frustrating because, according to the insurance company, the payment had already been processed and they had cashed it within four days of the claim being disclosed. Based on my experience, I feel the office was not transparent or honest about the insurance and payment situation, and dealing with them has been one of the most unpleasant medical office experiences I've had. If you have other options, I would strongly recommend staying away from this practice because of the way the office handles billing and communication, even though the dentist himself seems fine. read more

I really felt welcomed into the office and happy that this doctor took care of me for this. Him and his team really made the experience fast and easy for me. I woke up quick from the anesthesia and was sent my way home. Dr. Liu answered any questions I had and walked me through as they put me to sleep. On October 29, 2021, Dr. Liu removed two of my son's teeth with general anesthesia. I should have gotten a second opinion, rather than rely on an orthodontist's referral to Dr. Liu. Only after it was done did I learn that the removals and anesthesia were not medically necessary. When my insurance company GEHA refused to cover the procedures because they were not necessary--and an independent medical review fully agreed--Dr. Liu simply demanded that I pay for the unnecessary procedures myself. Do NOT consent to any procedures by his office without his office demonstrating to your insurer that he plans to do medically justifiable procedures! read more

Dr. Liu is a great surgeon. He is incredibly fast and his work seems to be outstanding. I have had several implants and he is definitely head and shoulders above the rest. As far as his work goes, I believe he may be the best in the country. The billing could have been better. Be absolutely certain as to the price you will be charged before getting the work done. (See, I am not a person to kiss up to anyone.) I am a tough critic and I rarely rate anyone's work as outstanding. Dr. Liu does do outstanding work. read more

I had a cracked molar and Dr. Liu was fast and the process was a pretty painless removal. He has such a nice and friendly staff.

Fairly good experience. My dentist referred me to another oral surgeon for pain in my jaw unrelated to my teeth, who had 1 star reviews on here so I searched until I found this doctor. I begged them to get me into the latest possible appointment slot due to my job, they were able to take me at 4:30. I had to wait a couple of weeks and was hoping the pain would subside but it only got worse so I was very glad to go. The office was simply decorated, nothing special. The waiting room could use a face lift. I can't remember which DR I saw but he was very good at his job. He came in and shook my hand and I noticed for a second how intensely he was looking at my face, but after describing my pain to him he immediately said I'm stress clenching and that he could tell by my face shape because the side I'm having pain on is slightly larger due to having developed a strong muscle from the clenching. He was able to deduce that it started right around when I got engaged (imagine that...wedding planning being stressful...whoda thunkit?) and recommended a night guard and some techniques to keep my face relaxed. He put me on a soft food and advil diet for the next two weeks, all of this helped immediately the next day. He said if after these two weeks I'm not getting better, he would recommend a physical stress therapist that works with you on managing stress with your body. The only reason I took away 1 star is because they don't work with any form of insurance (at least that's what they told me). They still try to put it through for you but my appointment cost me $300 out of pocket, which they told me several times before going in, but if I ever have to go back to see him I'd have to save up for it, which really sucks. I feel like Dr. Liu is the closest I'll ever get to a celebrity doctor. Seriously, he should have a reality show. He's very kind, caring, and very very patient. Staff in the Centreville VA office are incompetent and give misleading information about insurance. My son's appointment was made after verifying with their office that both dental and medical insurance were within network. A tech obtained a CT on my son after telling me he was getting an x-ray (I would have told them a CT required pre-authorization); then the office refused to obtain the preauthorization stating they do not accept my insurance. There's no getting around the fact that extractions hurt. That being said, I probably had the best experience that can be expected if you have to have one. The front desk receptionist that had me sign the forms I'd prefilled the night before online was very friendly and efficient. So was Dr. Liu's assistant. I'd read a couple of bad reviews online but nobody in the office was "nasty" to me. The person who explained my copay and the one who checked me out weren't the warmest, but neither am I at times. They were efficient. I had a wisdom tooth pulled and a bone graft in preparation for an implant. After the preliminary medical/numbing portion, the procedure took all of ten minutes. Dr. Liu made sure I was too numb to feel anything but tugging and checked to be sure when I became anxious or winced. He also provided another service and a consultation for an issue I had on the opposite side. I hadn't planned on my copay being what it was and Dr. Liu allowed me (a new patient) to be billed for what I didn't have. Awesome chair-side manner. He even talked me through a few difficult seconds of the procedure. I highly recommend him. read more

Dr. Liu and the staff at Fairfax Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery were professional, polite, and skilled. I was very nervous about getting my wisdom teeth taken out, but Dr. Liu addressed all my questions and concerns. The assistants were very thorough about what to expect after surgery, what to eat, etc. I did not have any postoperative problems. If you're looking for an oral surgeon, I would definitely recommend Dr. Liu. read more

My daughter had to have four wisdom teeth extracted two weeks before going back to college. Dr. Liu was great! Under sedation the extractions took less than an hour and she recovered in just a few days. Very happy with this service! read more
