I had my first prenatal care and birth with Dr. Kohn, and because of the exceptional experience I had, I chose to travel almost an hour to be under his care again for my second pregnancy. Not all OBs are created equally. Dr. Kohn is a physician of the highest caliber--professional, highly competent, and deeply attentive. I was considered high-risk for multiple reasons, yet he consistently listened with care, respected my concerns and requests, and took my medical issues seriously. His approach made me feel truly supported and confident throughout my pregnancies. His office and medical staff are also wonderful. read more

Dr. Kohn is truly the best doctor. He came highly recommended by many friends and the hospital staff, and I now understand why. He is kind, patient, calm, optimistic, and extremely knowledgeable and experienced. From pre-pregnancy through delivery, he took care of me every step of the way and made sure I delivered a healthy baby safely. He is also incredibly responsive--whenever I called, he made sure to return my calls. Even when I was on vacation and had a scare, he called me back within minutes and calmed me down. On the day of delivery, even though I was scared and facing many challenges, he was so reassuring and created such a smooth experience. After delivery, he continued to check up on me every day, which meant so much. He was always thorough with labs, appointments, and follow-up, and his positivity gave me the strength to carry to full term. I am forever grateful to Dr. Kohn--he will always be a part of my son's story. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Kohn's for over 16+ years! I have been seeing him every year for my yearly visits. He has treated me for my fibroids, very attentively; with yearly ultrasounds, and pelvic MRI's. Although, he has not delivered any babies for me, as I was too old to give birth when I started seeing him as my doctor, he has always treated me with un wavered professionalism, warmth and kindness! He always takes his time to listen when I am in the office. He answers all my questions. He is one of the few doctors that still picks up the phone and calls you directly with your medical results! He's the best! The office staff and nurses are very helpful as well! Josephine Walter. read more

I had to switch OBs halfway through my pregnancy after losing my insurance due to the devastating loss of my 13-year career. It was an incredibly sensitive and uncertain time for me, and the thought of starting over with a new OB so far along was overwhelming. But I truly believe everything happens for a reason because finding Dr. Kohn felt meant to be. From my very first appointment, he put me at ease. Every visit was pleasant, honest, and reassuring. As a first-time mom, I had so many questions and anxieties, and Dr. Kohn always took the time to answer everything with patience and care. His calm, steady demeanor brought such a sense of peace to both me and my husband, and we appreciated that energy more than I can say. It's also worth mentioning how wonderful his office staff is. They're always so kind, easy to reach, and incredibly prompt in delivering messages to him. I never felt like I was waiting or being overlooked. Dr. Kohn somehow makes you feel like you're his most important patient which says a lot, considering how many people he cares for. When it came to labor, delivery, and postpartum care.. that's where Dr. Kohn truly shined. I delivered at Providence/Cedars in Tarzana which he is affiliated with, and it was so comforting to know his office was right there. He was prompt, attentive, and supportive through the entire process. His calm presence in the delivery room was exactly what I needed in those intense, emotional moments. Thanks to Dr. Kohn, I delivered a healthy baby boy, and I'll forever be grateful for how he guided me through it all - not just medically, but emotionally, too. He's truly a wonderful, compassionate professional, and I can't thank him enough for helping me bring my son into this world. read more

I'm so glad I found Dr.Kohn he is honestly the best OBGYN I have been to. He is so kind and answered all my questions. One of the things I looked for when searching for a Dr to assist with my pregnancy and delivery was me not having to feel rushed in my appointments and I never felt that way with him. I had a c section and healed amazingly I can't say enough good things about him. His front office staff has always been nice and professional as well. I would highly recommend him read more

The most amazing doctor. He was my doctor for both my pregnancies and I couldn't have been happier. I am so sad he is retiring, but happy to have been under his care for almost 8 years. Thank you, Dr. Kohn! read more

I am so grateful to have been under the care of Dr. Kohn for many years. He not only is an excellent physician, he is a kind and gentle heart. I am so sad for me that he is retiring but happy for him for his new adventure in this world. My heart has been touched by his presence. read more

I happened to find Dr Kohn after reaching out to 9 different OBGYN's to get a second opinion. Dr Kohn was very informative and gave me 2 options vs my initial doctor gave me only one choice. He has been so caring and following up with me regularly. I did end up getting a major surgery and he has been with me every step of the way. The office staff has been amazing at relaying messages to getting insurance questions answered. Thank you Dr Kohn and staff for always making me feel at ease and loved. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Kohn's on and off for 10 years. He is due for another review. I don't want to go into details of how often I have been in his office and why but bottom line is, I couldn't ask for a better OBGYN. I am thankful to have him in my corner through some of the greatest and worst moments of my life. read more

Front desk staff could be a little more welcoming, not treating an expecting mother like she's just another number, but despite that, Dr. Kohn is truly wonderful! If not for Dr. Kohn and his care and attention to suggest a critical genetic test many overlook, sometimes for the cost (personally I don't think 80 bucks is a lot for something so important but that's just me), I would have delivered a child with a rare and severe form of muscular dystrophy and lost said child somewhere in his teens or sooner depending. Dr. Kohn saved my husband and I from a lifetime of unsurmountable grief, and put us on the path to IVF and a healthy baby who'll be due in November. He may have a soft spoken and relaxed demeanor, but by no means is Dr. Kohn a lackadaisical doctor who isn't knowledgeable, or fails to offer anything but his very best. read more

Besttttttttt OBGYN ever! He's great in every way! Very kind, and caring to all his patients. Takes time to remember history and partners name which seems like not a big deal but it really makes a difference. He always returns phone calls and answers messages in a timely manner. The staff is great and helpful! I can not say enough good things about this dr, you will not be disappointed. His calm demeanor in tough or hectic situations is a breath of fresh air! He has delivered one baby so far and hopefully a second soon. Do yourself a favor and make an appt with this genuine man!! read more

Dr Kohn is truly the most wonderful doctor I have ever had. I had a complicated pregnancy, and he was there for me every step of the way. He spoke with me, answered every question-never rushed my appointments, and always called me back. Delivery went beautifully, and he visited me in the hospital twice afterwards. He is a caring, considerate, intelligent OB-and I'm beyond grateful he's my doc. You know you're with the best when half the nurses who work in L&D AND Postpartum go to him too! read more

Frederick Kohn, MD - Dr Kohn with our beautiful baby girl! - Obstetricians & Gynecologists Near Me - Tarzana, California

Dr. Kohn is incredible! He is the most compassionate physician I've ever been to. From our initial consultation, through the birth of our baby boy, he's been absolutely devoted to us. He made himself fully available to answer all our questions during each appointment, and was also very quick to respond to after hours calls. He also helped me to have a wonderful delivery, and didn't rush me into having a C-section, even though my induction took some time to progress. He's highly regarded in the local medical community. All the nurses and physicians I encountered had glowing reviews about him. Will definitely be going back to Dr. Kohn for all future gynecological needs/future pregnancies. read more

The best doctor any woman could ask for! Perfect bedside manner with such a calming presence. I was an anxious mess throughout my entire pregnancy during the COVID-19 pandemic and he made me feel so much better after each and every appointment! I had a long labor but he kept me calm and informed the entire time. He truly takes into account what is best for mom and baby! I always felt safe and taken care of; no judgments! All the hospital staff during my labor and delivery experience at Providence Tarzana commends his work and really love him there! Also, his office staff and nurses are so amazing, nice, and very knowledgeable too! I never had any issues with appointments or wait time being too long! Overall, such a great experience! read more

The best! Always willing to explain things and answer my 100 questions. After 3 deliveries with him I can honestly say he's the best!

Literally the worst office to deal with. They not only super rude on the phone but also are really not helpful. It took 3 weeks for me to get my medical records released and now they are not able to fax them because their fax machine is not working. I had to follow-up multiple times to even get this done, they have not apologized even once for wasting my time (especially since this has to do with a health concern). The office has no regard for their patience, and they are more concerned with being unhelpful and not doing their job(s). I would not recommend this office. read more

First time mom here and let me tell you, I felt so overwhelmed trying to find a good doctor. I came across this office and decided to give it a try. Best decision I made, this doctor is the absolute BEST! Look no further! He's been so helpful with all of the questions and concerns I've had as a first time mom and has never rushed, interrupted, or made me feel silly for asking anything. He is very patient, calm, and does what he can to calm your nerves. The only downside is if you're bringing someone with you they have to wait outside until you're being seen, but at least they get to be there with you during your visit. His staff & Dr. Kohn himself are amazing and have made this journey less stressful and a happier one. So grateful for them! read more

I am not even sure where to begin to describe how thankful I am and how much I love this doctor! Dr Kohn was my Gyno and then became our Obgyn. He is always very calm, gentle and informative. Being our Obgyn he was so supportive my entire pregnancy and helped me have an all natural unmedicated birth. He was always on my side and followed our birth plan completely! I recommend him to everyone! Any women for a Gyno and every woman for Obgyn!!!! He is seriously the best! I will have all my babies with him! read more

I had a horrible experience under the care of Dr. Kohn, & wanted to share in case it would help others. Dr. Kohn was supposed to be my OB GYN since my regular OB was on vacation during my daughter's due date. He didn't end up showing up until after my daughter was already born - he walked into the room saying "What happened?". It's hard to forget a moment like that, since you would normally put your full trust in the doctor who is responsible for your care, especially during such a sensitive experience. I was 9cm dilated and the doctor was not around to see if it was time to deliver my baby. I had to deliver my baby under accelerated circumstances for health reasons because of the delay in attention/care from this physician. I wouldn't recommend him as an OB GYN for labor and delivery. read more

4 kids later and I'm still a loyalist to Dr. kohn. Best OBGYN out there! Super caring and takes the time to really listen. I also love how he's both progressive yet conservative in his practice. read more

I liked Dr Kohn and felt he provided good care during my visit, which was routine in nature. The staff was okay nothing much to say about them. The issue came later, when I was asked to go back in because they didn't get enough cells to test. Well okay it happens, nothing to do but go back. On the day of, I called to tell them I was running late, I was told if it was more than 5 minutes it would to be canceled, I said it was gonna be around 10, so got canceled. Mind, it was to be a 5 minute appointment to collect another sample, but they were too busy to accommodate me being 10 minutes late. Prior to this, they had to reschedule my initial appointment because they booked me on a day Dr Kohn was to be in surgery. I should've seen the first offense as a sign to go somewhere else. read more

WOW.... where do I even begin. Dr. Kohn is by far, the best OB in the valley. I say this with complete confidence. Just within my personal group of family and friends, Dr. John is the OB for over 10 of us! This is because of how amazing he is. He is professional, yet welcoming! He takes his time, even during the most basic of visits; which is so rare to find. He is always so calm and relaxed - it definitely puts you at ease; especially during 'game day'! During my first pregnancy, I was put on bed rest by the perinatologist due to work-induced stress. The perinatologist had informed me that because of stress, my baby was not growing properly (1st percentile abdominal circumference). After hearing the news, I saw Dr. Kohn. I was a complete mess. I was crying and so scared. Dr. Kohn comforted me and made me feel so much better about the situation. He fully explained how my condition was pretty common and truly made me believe everything was okay and that all I needed was to rest - and thankfully everything turned out okay! Had he not been so compassionate and reassuring, I would have probably continued my pregnancy with more stress (believing my baby would not come out okay) which would have probably resulted in such circumstances. Dr. Kohn delivered both of my kids at Tarzana hospital, and both times, he guided me perfectly during the process. He was present; he was calm; and he was always informing me of the next steps! Not to mention, he is the 'big kahuna' at Tarzana. Every nurse and doctor love him and speak so highly of him! I recommend Dr. Kohn to everyone!! read more

Where do I begin...Dr. Kohn is hands down, the best OB-Gyn I've had! He is so kind-hearted, gentle, patient & knowledgeable. I am very picky when it comes to my healthcare providers, especially one that would deliver my son, who was born on March 14, 2016 & I am proud to say Dr. Kohn was the perfect Doctor & yes, he safely delivered my son. He took care of me during my prenatal months & anytime I had a question, I would call his office & he would call me back within 10-15mins. He is very attentive & you can tell that he truly cares for his patients. He has a very calm demeanor & his emotions are on an even keel which is vital when it comes to D-day, trust me. Also, I expressed to him how I didn't want a C-section unless it was an emergency & he made sure he did everything in his power to avoid a C-section & to let me labor vaginally. Overall, I would recommend him to anyone looking for an OB! After all, I've been ranting about him to all my girlfriends! read more

Frederick Kohn, MD - Benjamin @ 6weeks w/ our favorite Doctor, Dr. Kohn! - Obstetricians & Gynecologists Near Me - Tarzana, California

I met Dr Kohn when I was pregnant with our 3rd child three years ago. I delivered my other two at Cedars with Dr Aliabadi (Obgyn to the Kardashians) it was tough for me to imagine finding someone at her caliber since she is the best or so I thought because Dr Kohn is just as amazing. He is definitely more calming but very calculated. Everything he told me throughout pregnancy and during labor was on point. Fast forward to today (5/22/21) I delivered our last child #4 with Dr Kohn and again his patients, calmness, guidance and recommendations were on point. I'm so happy I met Dr. Kohn he delivered my two girls and Dr Aliabadi delivered my two boys. If you are looking for the best Obgyn in the SF Valley/ Tarzana area to deliver at Tarzana Hospital then I highly recommend this God Father Dr Kohn! read more

Fortunately, I rarely need to be seen by Dr. Fredrick Kohn, however, when I do, I feel comfortable and I feel confident in his care of me. Dr.Kohn was amazing from our first visit in 2015 with my first child and now again, just as amazing with my second child. He made the birth process exciting, easy, comfortable and really just the best experience one could wish for during child birth. Any fears I had, he took seriously and did everything possible to make sure our concerns were investigated and gave us the peace of mind needed. Sadly, years later I called him in desperation to be seen after a rape. He tended to me immediately without question and saw me the same day, with empathy. As with all Dr and dentist offices, sometimes secretaries lack immediate compassion on the phone. I was upset with how a secretary had responded to my request once, asked that he call me back so I didn't have to deal with her and he did! This man does not lack compassion for his patients. I did extensive research on every OB in Los Angeles County before choosing Dr. Kohn and it was the best decision I ever made. I travel from Rancho Cucamonga to Tarzana just to keep him as a Dr. You're in great hands with Dr. Kohn. Thank you Dr. read more

I recently found out I am expecting. My only child and what I thought would be my only child just turned 13 so this came to a BIG surprise to my bf and I. My factory had closed after I gave birth to her. Nonetheless, we are happy. There is a reason this little bundle of joy is coming. I immediately said I have to see Dr. Kohn. I always said, if I ever have another child I would come searching for him. Most definitely will be my last. No more after this for us. :) Scared and nervous leading up to the pregnancy, Dr. Kohn reassured us that everything would be ok. I currently have an HMO (if we planned my bundle, I would have opted for PPO) and Dr. Kohn and his staff have been amazing with authorizations and referrals. This is the first time I have HMO and I am not used to the jumping of hoops obtaining authorizations. I had a scary moment a few wks ago and called the nurse, Dr. Kohn was in surgery but before I knew it he was returning my call and answering all my questions. Even the tone of his voice is soothing. I must admit, even in a hectic moment, I am sure he will calm you down. I am almost 3 months pregnant and I cant wait for our last little adventure and I am ecstatic that it will be with Dr. Kohn and his office staff. I love, love, love the care and attention he gives to his patients. I will always refer everyone to him. read more

I am high risk and see a lot of physicians in general and am very picky with who I choose for my care. It is not only the physician I look at but also their office staff and I had a great experience all around. (I see some negative posts prior but that has never been my experience.) Dr. Kohn does a great job from what I saw of working with his office staff- I've even witnessed him training them and giving feedback- which is very important. My first appointment I was worried about unusual symptoms and miscarriage and the office staff worked to get me in that day instead of a few weeks later. The office staff helped me a lot when medical group policies changed. I am a patient that asks a lot of questions and I like to come into appointments informed. I think that really worked for me because I was able to advocate for anything I needed. Delivery went well and post-partum I had a bad case of mastitis. I called the doctor letting him know my symptoms and he ensured I got medication I needed. Symptoms weren't improving and I had to go to the hospital (weekend) and I didn't get the help I needed in the hospital (crazy busy with covid and doctor dismissed me). I called doctor Kohn and he said I needed to go back to the hospital and I was worried the same thing would happen. He made some calls to hospital with what diagnostics I would need and ensured I was seen. Really good too because I likely had mrsa mastitis and needed iv treatment. It is really important to have doctors that listen to you and advocate for what you need. On another note, I really liked that Dr. Kohn does all of his deliveries. Mine was around Christmas and 3am- I feel like many physicians wouldn't want to do that. read more

I have never in my life met a doctor I could describe as 'collaborative.' Dr. Kohn was the most thorough doctor I've ever been to, asked me important questions, patiently answered my questions, and offered to research a procedure he wasn't familiar with that I was inquiring about. I love love LOVE Dr. Kohn! His office staff is also amazing! He delivered my daughter on 2015. During my first visit with him, he answered ALL of my questions (My list had about 30+ questions), which is amazing because as a new parent, he reassured my husband and I that our baby is in good hands. Fast forward to D-Day.... My water broke at 3am, I called his office, and their 24/7 service line asked for my name, number, and promised to have Dr. Kohn call me back ASAP. Sure enough, 5 mins after I hung up, Dr. Kohn called me and asked for details. He told me to head to the hospital because this baby is arriving a month early! I initially planned to give birth naturally, HOWEVER after pushing for what seems like forever, Dr. Kohn decided to do an ultrasound to check on my baby, which was a blessing because my baby's umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck four times! I had to go an emergency c section, which is fine because Dr. Kohn was able to SAFELY deliver my healthy, beautiful baby. If I ever get pregnant again, I am seriously considering driving over an hour just so I can make sure he delivers all my future children. On a random note, he also recommended a GREAT pediatrician. read more

I recently found Dr. Kohn when I was looking for a second opinion from another dr. I was refer to him by my regular internist. I recently had a MRI for a back injury earlier this month and they called back with results that I had a huge mass on my ovary. I immediately went to see my regular GYB who seemed very concerned and wasn't sure if one, he was going to be able to save my ovary, two, if he could do the surgery laparoscopic and three if he could even do this surgery. He kept saying he was going to need help and seemed very unsure. He wanted to open me up and seemed very unconcerned with the fact that I wanted as little down time as possible. When I first met with Dr. Kohn he explained all the same risk with surgery, even death. Of course with all surgery there is that possibility. The difference was he seemed very confident and reassuring. This was important because I only have one ovary, and if they took this last one I would have no possibility for babies and I would go into menopause. I'm in my early thirties so that would be horrible. Dr Kohn is a very serious Dr and he takes his job very serious, so even being the jokester I am, it was hard to get him to break. His bedside manner is very professional. However in hindsight I'm glad. I got surgery last Tuesday and it was a piece of cake. They removed the dermoid, 7cm long, size of an orange and saved my ovary. The best possible option. I was so worried after talking with two other drs I had lost hope. Excellent dr and I'm so lucky to have found him! read more

Not so much. Maybe great for Ob, but not for Gyn. Though Dr. Kohn took some time talking with me at his desk, I felt that he was in a bit of a hurry. The examination was incomplete, nothing like the doc who ultimately discovered what my Gyn issue was. The staff was mostly fine considering how very busy it was with so much going on. The environment felt crowded and overly active. Several lab tests he ordered were not pertinent to the symptoms I described to him, nor was the method of some of the lab tests he ordered appropriate for my personal situation. Not to mention that the visit and the testing cost a lot of money. When the labs came back negative, one would think that further testing and/or exploration should be done to target the issue I was having. I felt it was a waste of my time and money and that my health was declining as time passed. Again, he's probably fine as an Ob, but I needed a Gyn, and my experience with the Gyn part of Dr. Kohn was not up to any significant standard. read more

I switched to Dr Kohn around week 20 of my twin pregnancy because I wanted a doctor closer to my home. I was a little hesitant because I prefer female gynecologists and obstetricians but Dr Kohn won me over as soon as I met him. He's calm, caring, patient and thorough. He and his staff took care of all my needs and answered all of my questions and have always treated me with respect. One of his nurses, Griselda, even gave me a bunch of samples of formula after my twins were born and carried them to my car because she didn't want me to carry anything heavy after my c-section. Wait times for my appointments were short. Parking was usually easy. Mondays and Fridays are street cleaning days so free parking is limited in the mornings on those days but the structures only charge $3 per hour. The location is good if you have to go to the hospital or to a maternal fetal medicine specialist on the same day. And if you need lunch, Gelson's is a short walk away. During my regular appointments Dr Kohn listened to the babies' heartbeats with a doppler and measured my belly. He did not do an ultrasound until the day he measured my cervix and found that I was 3cm dilated. But he sent me to see Dr Bradley, a maternal fetal medicine specialist on a regular basis so I always felt like he and I knew that the babies were healthy. As far as the delivery of my twins, Dr Kohn was amazing. I don't know how he juggles appointments at his office and multiple deliveries on the same day but he does it all while staying calm and focused. After Dr Kohn broke my water, one of my babies' heart rate was slowing down so Dr Kohn decided to perform an emergency c-section on me. I was a little worried because hey, it's surgery! But Dr Kohn explained what was happening every step of the way and I felt my twins and I were in good hands. Within a few minutes, my twins were born and Dr Kohn and an assisting doctor were stitching me back up. Dr Kohn checked in on me regularly at the hospital after the surgery and I saw him in his office 2 weeks later when he checked my stitches and again a month later. I've recovered well and my twin girls are healthy thanks to Dr Kohn! read more

I was originally at Cedars Sinai but I wanted a closer, more personable hospital and a different doctor. So I toured Tarzana Hospital and both myself and my husband were VERY impressed. I have also continued to hear nothing but good things on pregnancy forums and review websites about both Tarzana Hospital and Dr. Kohn. Tarzana Hospital is supposed to be one of the best places in Los Angeles area to have your baby. I have a review on it as well if you go to my reviews. After settling on the hospital, I then picked Dr. Kohn because he was the only doctor I had ever seen that had 20+ 5 star reviews on Ratemds.com. They were all spread out over a period of years and years and I knew they were not fake reviews. I also kept hearing good things about him from baby forums & also from doulas I contacted. So I felt very confident that I was making the right decision. My first appointment with him took a bit long of a wait in the front office. The office has a VERY homey feel because it is the office of Dr. Rebecca Perlow as well. She is a very natural type doctor. I looked into her as well but in the end I wanted someone very experienced & knowledgeable with the medical side of it, and I will have my doula for the natural part of it. However I am aware that Dr. Kohn is also very supportive of natural birth and a bit old-fashioned. I.E. less C-Sections, no pushing for procedures you don't need just to save time, etc. You meet with him first in his office at his desk and he goes over your medical history, then you go to the exam room. There wasn't much to go over at that appointment as I was still early in my pregnancy, but I am sure as it gets closer to delivery there will be alot more information and questions and checking on the baby, etc. I will update when I have more to update with! =) read more
