I have 2 doctors at this practice - Dr. Shah and Dr. Jinhui Yuan. I always have a long wait time for Dr. Yuan, never under 2 hours. I sat in the waiting room for over an hour yesterday, requested the receptionist to give Dr. Yuan a note she had given me for when I came in, and she wouldn't do it. My appointment was at 12:30, there were 2 people in the waiting room, and I sat there for over an hour. I have no problems with my doctors or the medical care, but the wasted time and lack of concern on the part of the reception area is notable. read more

Lynn St Pierre is an absolutely HORRIBLE physician!! She is curt, rude, condescending, and judgmental. If you are an overweight person seeking help from an endocrinologist, DO NOT SEE HER! She is a fat shamer, completely deaf to anyone's ears but her own, and has absolutely NO empathy for those struggling with obesity. Her solution, instead of helping me was to repeatedly tell me "It is not the doctors job to prescribe a miracle drug. It is the patients responsibility to be accountable for their eating and exercise." If it were that easy, wouldnt all overweight people be cured by now?? She continued to "suggest" multiple times for me to join Weight Watchers (which I have done 12 times over my lifetime). After a little over a year with our last doctor, we decided to change because we moved! (more than 30 miles) Not, mind you, that our previous doctor was a draw. I did a review, and frankly, they were awful. So I was nervous about moving to a new Doctor. I shouldn't have been. 1. The office is easy to get to and find. 2. Parking is all around the building 3. In order to make this review, I have included information that is likely protected. I am willing to do that to help others be aware. I do not recommend Frederick Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, especially Dr. Kayur Bhavsar. As a physician, you should never yell at a patient, ever! And, you definitely should never yell at someone who lives with ASD. You need to learn to take a breath and explain it for the one-thousand and first time, if that is what your patient needs. Instead of realizing that the data is wrong (or a discrepancy exists), you wanted to defend your decisions and make this out to be something that it was and is not about. Instead of reacting the way you did, maybe you should sit down, open your ears, and listen to your patient. After all we are the ones that will need to be at peace or have a general understanding when we leave your office. Because, we are the ones that will have to live with the alerts and alarms going off at 3:00 in the morning. Not you. We are the ones you are asking to make modifications to our lives (using data supplied by the devices you recommend). Not you. We are the ones who will suffer the damage caused by diabetes. Not you. As per your aggressive and flippant demand during my visit today, I reached out to Dexcom. There is an unexplained lack of consistency between the Dexcom, Stelo, and Clarity applications in my case. They have opened a ticket and will get back to me when they have an answer. However, they were able to see the discrepancy IMMEDIATELY and understand the importance of accurate data. To the point of saying, "please make your doctor aware of these discrepancies immediately." At that point, I hadn't even told them about my visit today. They are fully aware now. As a data scientist and a former clinical risk manager, I was attempting to explain to you I DO NOT feel comfortable with you making decisions regarding my healthcare using data that is inconsistent. Dexcom agrees! Your response repeatedly was "I'm telling you good news and you're getting hung up on the data." That statement is wildly ironic. In the same breath you're telling me you're looking at the data, and the data is telling you that you should not make changes, you're telling me the data doesn't matter. How is that? A question you never answered today. Matter-of-fact, you became really defensive when I asked about the data and it's inconsistency. I wasn't questioning the diagnosis, which I wonder if I should at this point. I am the patient. If I have those types of questions, it is not only your responsibility to explain it to me one-thousand and one times, if necessary, but your obligation under your licensure. I showed your nurse when she returned to the office after you yelled at me, that there is a discrepancy. The Stelo app stated that I was 86% within range all day yesterday. The Clarity App (generated by data from Dexcom and Stelo) shows that I was 100% "within range". This happened throughout the 2 weeks I wore the Dexcom. She stated she has noted my record with what I have shown her. I have screenshots of the inconsistencies which I have provided to Dexcom for their review. Regardless of the data issues, your beside manner is probably the worst I have seen in 20 years of being employed in healthcare, both as a flight medic for 12 years AND as a clinical risk manager for 10 years. Ten years where my job was to investigate claims made by patients of doctors acting just as you did today. We are patients; we are humans; and we are navigating new and turbulent time in our lives. The last thing we need is an egomaniac using circular arguments to defend and justify themselves. Instead how about just saying "let's see if we can figure this out together" and treat your patient! read more

I'd first like to say that I almost refrained from leaving a review here out of purely selfish reasons and, Ive always wondered what motivated or triggered keyboard warriors to begin with... however, I'll share my opinion because I think there's a bigger picture to some of the complaints about the wait time. The reason your worthy wait is so long is because these are the best of the best offered in compassionate, caring, professional, and knowledgeable Doctors. These Doctors are spending quality time with their patients and they are NOT doing the standard -10 minute got their eye on the clock, inhumane roll out that you'd complain about on your other Doctors visit review board. I've been a patient for over 15 years and yes, sometimes the wait is long, however I have to respect that my Doctor is equally giving his other patients the same care, diligence, and thoroughness that he extends to me professionally. Like you, I have put up with hot mess and extremely rude front desk personnel, personal nurses that have dropped the ball and attempted to rewrite historical facts by trying to gaslight me without the Doctors knowledge...and yes, I let most of that go, I'm still here and standing....a patient, and many of them have gone on to other pastures. I've reported the most ridiculous occurrences of rude office staff behavior to an Office Manager maybe twice over 15 years. Not sure if they still have an Office Manager, but the choice is yours. I tell you this, wouldn't trade my Doctor for another. He extends himself beyond his office hours with hospital and nursing home visits. I know because I've run into him many many times at various locations over the years and marveled at his capacity of workload and compassion. It's not just my Doctor, I've seen the other Doctors of FIMES out there too. Sometimes we have the very same people that complain when they're shoveled out after a Doctor has spent 5-10 minutes with them, wrote a script, and herded the next patient in. Geez, I guess there would be no wait and you'd be delighted and feel you had superior service from your Health Care Provider. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. This would be a solid 5 stars if not for some as mentioned staff in this office. Awful customer service, this is always a red flag during initial dealings with a medical provider. First, train your staff to return phone calls. One shouldn't have to call back twice just to have a simple question answered. Do your job people; it takes minutes to return a phone call and no one is too busy for that. I worked in a busy medical office years ago, this is not difficult. And - if you are not accepting new patients, update your participating insurance carriers accordingly so people aren't wasting their time trying to schedule as a new patient when you are clearly not accepting new patients. Understand what insurance programs/incentives you are a part of and which ones you aren't. Understand if other doctors in the practice are accepting new patients and how to proceed. read more

Unfortunately, I'll never know if the medical staff in this practice is any good because their desk staff is so incompetent. After failing to reach anyone on the phone on a Friday afternoon (left the desk early, did you?) I tried again on Mon and Tues to reach someone about a new patient appointment. 1. They don't pick up the phone. Doesn't seem to matter what time you call. I sat on hold for over 20 min after calling twice on Tues mid-morning. The last straw. 2. The calls get shuffled to random voicemail boxes. You are prompted to push '0' to get out of voicemail and speak to operator. Apparently no operator exists. You get an error message instead. Not everyone wants to leave a message. This is my health, not a takeout order. 3. Phones are turned off for lunch. Why bother? They aren't answered the rest of the day either. See a different office, preferably one that cares about patient needs. read more

They do not answer the phone. I left a message for an urgent issue with my blood sugar and insulin, and literally NO ONE CALLED ME BACK. It has been A WEEK. I COULD HAVE DIED due to low blood sugar. I made it very clear on my voicemail that it was an urgent issue. This has now happened several times where they do not answer the phone or return calls. I have asked for the manager to call me, but it seems like it is pointless according to the other reviews. Time to find a new provider and an office that actually cares. read more

This has just happened since Feb 22. If I could give this place NEGATIVE stars I would! My mother who has worked her entire life has finally retired and taking care of a few medical issues. And this woman has the patience of Job. She has called there religiously for 2 months with no call back. Finally got an appointment sat for an hour.past time and the PA asking questions never once looked at my mother or acknowledged her as a human. I don't know if they are good doctors or not. I know that when I called, Serena (the new patient rep) acted as if they were interviewing me for whether the doctor would even consider taking me. When I asked MY questions about the doctors, she told me to go look at the website to see what they specialize in, etc. Seriously! She would not tell me anything until they got and reviewed my records from my primary doc. Maybe I am just too private, but I don't want my records floating around if I am not even going to see that doctor. Weird. So, staff has no bedside manner, and seems to think that the patients are lucky to be selected, plus apparently they are allowed to get away with being straight up rude to potential patients. Somehow I doubt that they are much nicer to current patients. Thanks but no thanks. We are 35 minutes from Johns Hopkins - I am not going to bother with these rude local people when I can have (rude?) top-of-the-line doctors for a short car ride. Hometown friendliness? This is the most incompetent healthcare business on the face of the planet. They aren't even able to fill a prescription properly. "Oh, we faxed it over but the status says 'FAIL'." Well did you think of calling the pharmacist to approve the refill? Or did you plan on saying "oh well, it failed" and be done with it?? They have failed to fill a prescription FOUR TIMES out of five. No other doctor's office has ever required such babying. I've never had any doctor mess up a prescription; usually you go to the pharmacist and say "I need a refill", they send it over and it comes right back. Never, ever, ever. Only this place. When we started going to this practice, we were transferred from another endocrinologist who had already done diagnosis and documented everything. (This is just a minor thyroid imbalance.) But the doctor performed "an exam" (which was nothing but touching my wife's neck) and billed this to insurance. So basically this business exists to scam the insurance system and to get paid. The last appointment with this practice -- and it is OUR LAST, EVER, WITH THESE IDIOTS -- they didn't even have the results of the lab work. The whole point of the appointment was to discuss these results, but they weren't there so the appointment was a complete waste of time. We sent a fax to this business today to transfer records to another doctor but they can't even do that. FOUR REVIEWS of this business and they are all one-star. Customer service has gone seriously downhill. I love Dr. Hakim, she is simply wonderful but her office is a hot mess. My last two visits I have had to wait about an hour before I even got into an exam room and then had to wait even longer before the doctor came in. Over the past week I have left 4 voicemails to get a prescription refilled and have heard nothing back. I had the same problem a few months ago when I was having symptoms. I called and left multiple messages before anyone got back to me. I have stuck with them because I adore Dr. Hakim but I'm done, it's time to move on to a practice that values me as a patient. read more

This is the most frustrating office I have been to. When Dr. Carnell was my endocrinologist (at this office) I never ever had a problem. When he left for another practice I decided to see my general practitioner for medication checks because by that time I had been on the same dose for years. I figured that I could see an endocrinologist if there was a problem with my thyroid. Within the last two years I went back to this office because I had heard that Jinhaun Yuan was good. She is a PA-C. I was experiencing fatigue and this office is closer to home than Dr. Carnell's new office is. I am giving this practice 1 star only because Jinhaun is doing an decent job. However, the billing department and front office is frustrating and deserves a 0 star. I have been billed for a shot that I was given back in April. I was actually supposed to get this shot in January but I couldn't get them to call the pharmacy back for 3 months. The pharmacy needed a code to send it. The shot is for osteoporosis which I have, but I had the medicine for the shot sent to them rather than get it from their office. This caused me to have to pay under $50, $25 of which I paid directly to the pharmacy from which it was ordered. The other part was for the actual administration of the shot (after insurance) which was done in their office. This was after I had tried their way the first time and had a huge bill. I had been told the first one would be high but I was thinking between $100-200. I was shocked. This time I was billed again for the cost of the shot as if the medicine was from their office, which it was not. My insurance was billed $1500 and they said my part was nearly $700. It should have been under $25 this time. The bill came through at the end of May. I called right after and couldn't get through so I stopped by the office the first week in June. I was assured it would be fixed and I would be billed only for the administration of the shot. I checked again in July and August. According to them, they are still waiting for my insurance company. It is now September and my insurance company sent them a bill back in July for what was incorrectly paid to them in April. They haven't paid back the insurance company and I am still calling. I called today a few minutes after 4:30 PM after I clarified everything with my insurance company. My call wasn't answered and it said they were closed. The website said their hours are 8 AM through 5 PM but if you look just under that it says their phones are answered only until 4 PM. ????!!!!! I am due another shot in a couple of weeks. I have decided to cancel it and talk to my regular doctor as to how to proceed. I can't do this any more. I won't be going back. I came there for fatigue and I am exhausted from all of this nonsense. read more

The office staff is terribly rude and they have very poor phone etiquette. I always felt like I was causing them hardship by needing them to do their jobs. I saw Dr. Hakim several times and she seemed to be troubled by things that did not bother any of my other doctor's. I felt like she was slightly spastic. The biggest problem that I had with the office is that they NEVER have any appointments. You have to schedule your appointment 3-6 months in advance and if something comes up, they don't have any for another 3-6 months (even for non-routine, i.e. you are feeling like your medication levels aren't correct). I got so frustrated that I have given up on this office and would never recommend anyone go here. read more

In the last two days they have twice mixed my wife's records up with those of other patients. Including referencing tests and procedures that never happened and then questioning her memory, and telling her to change her medications while referring to a different patient. The level of care is of a level that we can no longer feel safe using this office. The two hours waits past appointment times seem inconsequential compared to the unprofessional medical care dispensed. read more

First visit with Dr. Donelson. He spent so much time gathering my history, making recommendations and giving advice. Very thorough. Also has a very soothing, calm demeanor which I really appreciated. He seems very knowledgeable and competent. I highly recommend. read more

I've been going to Dr. Hakim for about four years. She is the best Endocrinologist I have ever seen and I hope I never have to switch to another. She is extremely knowledgeable and thorough. She is up to date on the research in her field and puts it into practice regularly. I cannot say enough positive about her. I have had some problems with some of the office staff in the past, but I think that was resolved and every office has issues occasionally. I have not had any problems in the past couple of years. I have never waited what seemed a long time myself in the waiting room, but there are always a very large number of people waiting. It must be a very busy practice with a number of doctors using the same waiting room. To become a patient you have to go through a screening process, but it is worth it if she is able to take you as a patient. I believe you may need to have a diagnosed or clearly evident issue before you can be seen in this practice, but I am not positive about this. I know Dr. Hakim has to see your records from previous doctors. I know at least four other friends who also see Dr. Hakim and we all count ourselves fortunate to have her as our doctor. read more

Dr. Hakim should not be part of your medical team. She botched a biopsy she performed on me and then lied about it to me and other doctors on my team AND tried to convince me she did the test right and that I had not one but two types of cancer. Her nurse lied to me about what another doctor said to them about my case. Doctors at a major hospital called her testing/biopsy procedures "wacky" and said they do not use them due to inaccuracy and they are not industry standard. She has excellent bedside manner which is deceiving. Go for a doctor with a real education, and save yourself serious time and potentially your life. read more

After being treated rudely by staff when I called as a new patient. I finally got an appointment. Sadly the appointment was 6 months out from the day I called. After waiting the 6 months they cancelled my appointment due to bad weather. I'm from Northern Michigan and the weather is nothing here. There was no reason to close the office. Anyway, when I went to reschedule my appointment they told me the next available appointment was a month away. Good thing I'm not dying of cancer. They act as if I should be glad that I was chosen to be seen by this doctor. I recommend anyone needing a doctor to look else where. read more

Called 3 1/2 months in advance to set up an appointment. Paper work was NEVER sent. Called again about a month before scheduled appointment. They apologized and said the paperwork would be sent that day. I received the paperwork the same day I received a form letter telling me my appointment was cancelled and to call and reschedule. Remember this appointment was made 3 1/2 months in advance. It was only a benefit to the Doctor to schedule in advance ("Keep the Book Filled") as they had no respect for my schedule. The endocrinology PA and Dr Hakim seemed intelligent and competent, however every single other person in the practice was rude and unclean. The appointment was made over two months ago, I arrived 15 min early with all forms filled out and then waited another 45 min before being called back. When I signed in, I asked how long the wait would be and the receptionist all but rolled her eyes at me and said "oh, any minute now" ... the exact same response she gave me 30 min later... Neither the tech who took my vitals nor the lab tech who drew my blood could be bothered to introduce themselves, let alone washing their hands (during flu season in this super busy office). The doors to the exam rooms were covered with brown filth from apparently never being washed where they're touched. I felt so gross leaving the place that I showered as soon as I got home. The receptionist at the 'exit' counter wouldn't make eye contact with me, and was so rude I just left the office. I cannot imagine a less professional or hygienic doctor's office exists. Almost three hours wasted for a 20 min consult. I'm so disappointed. Should've read these other reviews before I made the appointment... One star because at least the practitioners I saw seemed decent. However, I can't bring myself to make a follow up appointment with this practice. I have gone to this practice for years. I give Dr Hakim at 5, but the front office, the face of the practice gets a 1. I signed in and sat down. For 15 minutes I waited to be called up for a copay (15min past my appt time). After 20 minutes of waiting and listening to the personal conversations of the front desk staff I approached them. "Oops sorry we must have missed you." I appreciate your apology, but perhaps you should have been more focused on your job. Don't get me wrong I'm also a Redskin fan, but don't feel it is appropriate attire in a dr office or what should be greeting your patients. After an hour of waiting I am finally called back and put into a room. In the room I waited for another 30 minutes because they didn't tell the dr I was in the room. Most of the time you walk into this practice it's a full waiting room. You may not value our time, but life is short and you are taking up a large part of my day and life I won't get back! I can never make several appointments on the days I'm scheduled here because I never know how long it will take for me to be seen. I have take a day away from my job to go to the dr and my time is just as valuable as yours! I love Dr Hakim and would recommend her to anyone, however the wait is not worth it. I've seen many doctors in my life. I've seen three over the years, just to treat my thyroid disease. Dr. Majd Hakim and PA Jinhui Yuan, from Frederick Internal Medicine and Endocrinology Services, have far exceeded my expectations. They have truly treated me as a whole person, addressing my overall health. About two years ago, following a knee injury, I was seeing Dr. Hakim for a regular follow-up on my thyroid. After speaking with me, she immediately recognized life-threatening symptoms that were overlooked by my Orthopedic at the time. She sent me directly to the hospital where I was found to have dangerous blood clots in my injured leg and PE's in my lungs! She made sure that I understood the seriousness of what she suspected telling me to go straight to the hospital and nowhere else. She literally saved my life that day, because she was not only treating my thyroid, but she listened to everything I had to say, took it seriously, and treated me accordingly. I highly recommend Dr. Hakim and Jinhui Yuan, PA, who also treats me with the same interest and overall concern for my well-being. They have shown me the same care and concern that I think they would their own family and I am truly thankful that I found them. read more

Dr. Hakim, the endocrinologist, is one of the best doctors I've ever seen. She always spends a lot of time with me, answers all my questions in detail, had excellent bedside manner, reassured me, and didn't rush me. I also never waited an unreasonable amount of time. Like the other reviews indicate, this office is incompetent and money-hungry. The staff is rude and act like they are doing you a favor to do anything. My 92 year-old mother has difficulty walking and I decided to get a prescription from Dr. Hemen Shah for a wheelchair. Despite her mobility problem, he insisted she come in for an appointment before he'd write the scipt although he had just seen her three weeks previously. He charged $125 to talk to her for a few minutes and write the script for the wheelchair. Now, I asked him to fill out a very short form so that I could proceed with oral surgery. He wouldn't do it unless I scheduled an appointment so he could charge my insurance company and I'd have to make a co-pay. Another time he attempted to clean my mom's ears without her permission and charged over $150. They run late consistently and once we had to wait for two hours. The staff can't handle the simplest request. I have finally given up and am switching doctors. We'll see how faxing my records to the new doctor proceeds. read more

The staff and receptionists here are HORRIBLE!! I have NEVER been treated so badly by a medical practice in my life. I wasn't even able to make an appointment that's how rude they were!! The first time I called a receptionist named Karen I believe, picked up, I told her that my gynecologist recommended I see Dr. Hakim about my newly found underactive Thyroid, she then asked me if I was a new patient there and I said yes and then she quickly said "You have to tell your referring physician to send your lab results to us before we can schedule an appointment." CLICK. Before I could say anything else she clicked me off to an automated voice messaging system. She didn't ask what my name was and I didn't have the chance to tell her that my doctor had already sent my results and information to their office. So after a week of calling them trying to schedule an appointment, leaving messages and such I have given up. They never called me back and I was never able to get a real person over the phone after that. I have no idea how good the doctors are but if you can't even make an appointment because the receptionists are so rude and nasty I don't think I want to know how the doctors are! Don't even bother trying with these people they are not worth your time and apparently you aren't worth theirs. read more
