I remember getting my first Fred Perry Polo: going to Dee's of Trongate and going through the colour options until I settled on a classic black with red and white piping. Nowadays, you can't have that same experience, as Dee's no longer stock them (allegedly because Fred Perry weren't happy that they were selling them so cheap), so the best place to get them is at this Fred Perry shop.
If you're just after a polo then there is a big section with all of the standard options in classic and slim cuts. There are also occasional limited edition styles which the collector can go for. As well as the classics, there are also shirts, jackets and other bits and bobs. Men, women and kids are given an equal amount of attention. The staff are attentive without being to hovering, and there is a good amount of things to choose from.
My only slight issue is that I was brought up on the Dee's experience in terms of pricing. Back in the day I'm sure that I paid £30-something for it, and nowadays the standard price at the shop is £55. At first I thought this was a little steep, but then I remembered that I still have that polo - yeah it's a little faded, but I can still wear it. And that's the thing, I might have spent a bit more money than the last time but hopefully I'll get as much wear out of the new one. If you don't like Fred Perry as a brand then this shop is pointless, and if you can't justify £55 for a polo then knock another star off - for the reasons above I can live with it, but I can see why some would have an issue. read more
