terribly disappointed in the show this year 2025 very downsized not a lot of people I could tell as soon as I got there in the parking was sparse usually take 3 to 4 hours to see everything I was done in less than an hour. I will attend the show that's inCosta Mesa in March for the first time I'll check that one out. read more

Very sad to see the current shape of the Progressive Hall show at the Long Beach convention center! used to be the Fred Hall Show and that one was terrific! but Progressive has taken it over and with the exception of insurers getting free tickets, the entry fee is now $25! plus $15 to park. At least for that, you'll experience empty aisles, no lines to make purchases and plenty of salespeople to talk to! Sad to say. Even after they moved the boats that were on display outside to the inside area there was still a lot of empty space! Quite a few of the vendor booths were vacant. If you removed the booths that were not boating and fishing related, they could hold the Super Bowl there! The promoters must have advertised for vendors in the home and garden and finger food online sites! There were lots of sale prices for the Knick knacks and occasional $600 reel. Turners had sale prices in their fully stocked huge booth! But the boat dealers were holding firm with their list prices that were posted on the hulls of most boats. 24' center consoles have broken the $200,000 threshold. Progressive's next Hall show ids the Del Mar one. Hopefully that one will have more vendors and customers! read more

2025 show was the worst i have very seen. it started with $15 parking, then $20 to get in (senior discount). the show was half the size from years prior. a lot of vendors missing. total disappointment out within an hour. been coming to the show over 40years. read more

The 71st Fred Hall show was my first time coming to this event since becoming hooked on fishing (pun intended) over a year ago (I missed last year's show). It's amazing at how much stuff is here. It's definitely one of the best fishing, boating and outdoors shows around. So many vendors ranging from fishing brand names, boat companies and charters, retailers, boating gear, hunting gear and more! Great for the whole family to enjoy. There's also trout fishing for the kids and many raffles, games and testing all sorts of outdoor gear. The crowds aren't so bad during the week and I heard the weekends can be really packed (just a heads up). My main purpose of going was to check out the new and current fishing gear, find deals and learn something new from the seminars going on through out the evert days. I did get a new rod and some jigs I've been wanting get and few more items. I had to control myself from buying way more. Also, got a deal on boating trips as well. I went two days after work (thurs-fri). Although I paid $17 for each day (plus parking... ugh), it was a nice treat and worth the price. There's metered parking options as well, and cheaper parking lots a little further away. Overall, I was impressed with the expo and will plan to go next year. I highly recommend this to any avid fishing, boating and outdoor fan. read more

This was my first time attending, and I'm surprised I haven't checked it out in years past. Let's get right to it! Highlights: ~ Being able to try out all the latest reels and rods, especially with all the well knowns like Daiwa, Shimano, Penn, Avet and Abu Garcia just to name a few. Their display stands only showcase them, and they did have enough experts ready to help. As for selling of their products, the other vendors sold them. And of course it seemed like everyone just flocked towards Turner's to buy things. ~ Turner's had probably the largest retail section of the event, but I had to avoid the madness. Deal or no deal, I'd rather go to a Turner's store instead. Or choose to support the smaller mom-n-pop booths. ~ At some of the smaller vendors, I enjoyed meeting and talking to the local anglers on obtaining the proper equipment needed for certain types of fishing trips. Whether if its for surf, deep sea, lake or stream/river fishing, you'll usually find someone that will help. Although you'll also meet a lot of old fogies that won't stop talking. ~ A few interesting fishing programs that were a "how to" on what to use etc. Advertising for a rod or reel and what bait you should use etc. How to cast, and what to do with your jig, etc. You know what I mean. It's a show, so I sat through a few of them. ~ If you're wondering about a certain area to go hunting, there are plenty of clubs that you can sign up with, so you can hunt on selected private properties. Or you can just try on a bulletproof vest! ~ Boat vendors that are showing you the latest and greatest new fishing vessel. Or that speed boat you've always wanted. Plenty of vendors advertising boats that's for sure. ~ Getting to know some of the charter boat captains is also a plus. Some of them ignored you (which likely reflects how they'll treat you on the boat), some were willing to share stories about certain trips. Details on where the charter leaves out of, or what islands they'll be fishing around. ~ AND IT'S TRUE ABOUT GOING ON THE LAST DAY! I grabbed some awesome deals on Shimano boots, a new tackle box, rod/reel combos... oh yeah I shopped alright! For the most part, it is what it is, a "convention" to network and find a good deal. Others may feel it's like a giant swap meet and a waste of time. But I scanned and assessed what to avoid, like the non-fishing related booths which were an eyesore. And I somewhat came prepared on what interests me, and what I was seeking to buy. Other than the huge crowd, I really had no issues so I wouldn't mind attending again. read more

This is where fish lovers all around the world come together and checkout the newest and baddest products in the industry. I love that the Long Beach Convention Center is where they host the Fred Hall Show every year. They're having another show in Del Mar on March 28th - 31st! There's always such a big turn out and I normally come to support my cousin's business, Fish and Fame. They started off with just one big booth the first year and ended up doubling in size!! Every year they keep expanding. Right when you walk into the Convention Center, all you see are tons of beautiful and amazing boats, some made strictly for fishing, the others for excursions and parties. I was in awe, and in la la land, dreaming of one day owning one of these gorgeous boats. Once you turn that corner, you'll see the beef jerky vendors, 805 beer booth, and then the overwhelming part starts to happen. You start walking and then you'll see tons of booths up and down the aisles of such talented businesses selling fishing products everywhere you turn, but it's such a fun event. Plenty of nice people. There's also events outside, like an area for kids to go fishing. If you love fishing, this is the place to be. read more

We visited the Fred Hall Show for the Fishing & Hunting show on 03/08/2014. The parking is $10; there is an open lot and a parking structure. They do not allow outside food and drinks. Be careful because food prices are high. $$ One plastic cup of beer was $10. This venue is a lot to take in for first timers like us. We wore comfortable shoes to checkout all the booths, cars, boats, trucks, kayaks, fishing supplies, hunting gear, campers, jerky huts, jewelry, dog diving, archery, guns, cooking show, flight simulator, and...the World Poker table?!? That's right, they wanted to expand their clientele. The spokeswoman said, "Who knew fisherman and hunters alike would be fond of gambling?" I knew. In the middle of it all, blackout! It only lasted 10-15 minutes but it was quite hilarious. The poker table had their flashlights from iPhones on the table. A lot of people cleared out because no one knew how long Fred Hall Show would get their power back. I bought a huge slab (one flat piece about foot and half long) of awesome tasting jerky and it only cost me $20!?!? I was not prepared for the prices of everything. Some of the places are cash only and the ATM has a fee. Lots of competition amongst the sellers...didn't seem like friendly competition either. Plenty of activities for every age group, male and female. The prices are way too high for food and drinks. We will come back next year to try the flight simulators and free fly fishing lessons. read more

This is the 70th Fred Hall Show, and it's the biggest one yet. Parking is $10 at the Long Beach Civic Center Lot or if you think you will be 2hrs or less (which is impossible) choose the meter parking. Entrance fee is $16 for adults, 12 and under is free, and active military is free. Free entry if you renew your Coastal Conservation Assoc California membership for $50. The CCA gives you a stack of savings and coupons. This is the ultimate trade show for boating, fishing and hunting. They have a full array of sport boats and fishing boats. All the landings, sport boat operators, fishing guides, and manufacturers are all competing for angler dollars. I came after work on Thursday and felt a bit rushed with only 3 hours. Dropped a couple hundies on fluorocarbon and hooks for my long range tuna trip this year. All the tackle shops have incredible savings and more than make up for the entry and parking fees. read more

It is an awesome event where you can buy boats and boating gear, fishing equipment (from rods, reels, to lure and line) They have some many different fishing vendors at this event and they price everything at a discounted price. So much to choose from. Plan on spending money here because you will just want everything you see. I try to go every year it comes to Long Beach. Awesome show that you just can't miss. Every year I attend the Fred Hall Fishing Show for three reasons. First, fishing is the sport I truly enjoy whether I go on a seven day tuna trip, my annual 1.5 day tuna trip or a short day trip with my buddies. Secondly, I meet those fishing buddies, talk about the past and future trips. Lastly, to see what is new in the industry. The Fred Hall show has rod and reel manufacturers, local tackle stores, clothing, fresh and saltwater boats, Kayaks, fishing and hunting lodges from Alaska, Canada, California, Midwest and Mexico. For those of you that would like to discuss future fishing trips and schedules, sportfishing landings from Ventura to San Diego were represented. The show has seminar speakers to teach and help improve your chances of catching more fish. For the family, this year (2010) they have the Dock Dogs and invite you to bring your dog for the show. For the wife or girlfriend, the Bluewater girls put on a fashion show. For the kids and kid at heart, there is an Air Gun and Soft air range, an Archery range, the Off Limits fishing arcade truck and the trout pond (catch real live trout). So, if you want to ask questions about your current fishing reel, learn to tie a strong fishing knot or should you purchase that 15 foot boat verses the 50 foot boat; you can find the answer here. My pops and I would go every year and I would try to gather as many stickers, catalogs and other swag as I could carry. It is a fun day with lots of things to do. Went to the Fred Hall Show at the Long Beach Convention Center with my Dad and Brother who work for Fish & Game, so they interacted at the Fish & Game booth where they brought fish and created a man made pond for the kids to fish out of. We had so much fun, I bought two backpacks from the show for $15 each, great quality. I'm looking forward to March 2017 for the next show. I highly recommend. Fred Hall 2019 Wasn't going to go this year but my friend got into fishing a couple of years ago and he wanted to the FHS, so I took him. This year they changed it up a little and I noticed more good deals and discounts from the vendors, IT"S ABOUT TIME ! Ticket prices and parking prices didn't change, that was good, but parking is still a rip off. Progressive Insurance decided to be cheap this year and not send out the $3 off tickets; looks like it's time to look for another insurance company for my boat if they want to be cheap and not offer discounts like they have for years. I know 805 beer was a sponsor at the FHS, but I didn't see to much advertising from them, LOL ! We ended up getting some good deals on fishing tackle and reels and the companies handed out some decent freebies that you didn't need to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars to get. The selling of blackjack tables and few other nonsense items were not there this year which was another plus, since this is an outdoorsman's show and not a Vegas gamblers convention. Turners expanded which looked like they just moved one of their stores in the convention hall and they had some really good deals as they partnered up with manufactures and vendors. Again this year I checked out Captain Dave's seminar and it was great. Good info once again and he is always entertaining to listen to. Now what was I talking about........haha. Hopefully next year they will improve more and the vendors loosen up the freebies a little more as well and make next years show better. FHS family don't get greedy and raise ticket prices, $18 is already high enough. Raising the costs of tickets will only make less people go, which in turns equals less profit in your pockets. read more

What an amazing experience. One complaint is that I wish they had more budget boats, not everyone wants to spend 100k on a fishing boat.... other than that, everything was amazing. So many great venders and great giveaways. I ended up going two different days just to see as much as I could and go to the seminars. lots of great speakers, very informative. I bought more stuff than I planned on but thats ok. Some of the highlights were of course the boats. Turners, the different fishing booths, jigs baits, the seminars and the great giveaways with purchases. Daiwa had free rods with the purchase of a reel. I have been coming here on and off since I could remember. Yes it is kind of pricey but whatever. There are a lot of booths selling stuff/sampling stuff/information about stuff. There are boats here, live fishing seminar and food outside. Turner has a huge booth there. Turner gets really packed in that booth as people are buying supplies. The outside part is where you can do some fly fishing on the pond. There was food there too (first time I saw Angels from Mammoth Lakes) and a live fishing pool for the kids. My nephew caught his first trout, good boy!!! read more

I have read some of the reviews below and although I agree with most if not all, I must provide a correction. The main issue that people unhappy with the cost of the show do not mention (or realize), is that the Fred Hall family rents or leases the space in the Long Beach Convention Center. The only price that they perhaps have control over, is the admission cost. The parking, beer, food, etc. is provided by the convention center. Same as trash pickup and cleaning. The sale and item pricing is also up to the individual venders. Therefore; it is unfair to blame the Hall family for the price and increase thereafter in the future. I have been going since 2006 as non-profit booth and the last few years to help out with Cedros Outdoors Adventure Company. I noticed many staff cleaning and removing trash. It was a very busy with many visitors. Bathrooms were continuously being cleaned and supplies added. Let us put the blame where it belongs, and not fault the Fred Hall family entirely. read more

Used to be in the fishing business so to speak, and attended and worked at quite a few FH shows for many years. Read a number of the reviews and have to say I agree with most. This show has degraded significantly over the years. The purpose of this show should be to highlight fishing innovations and secondly offer reasonable prices on some of the new gear available. Many, many years ago, one could attend the show at a minimum expense, view some of the newest products and learn about them, not have to deal with so many non-fishing vendors, and actually arrive back home with a large bag full of free items - such as lures, T shirts, small tackle, stickers etc. Not any more. Heard someone say that the Hall show should not be blamed for the pricing at the show - that is only a very small percentage of truth. Yes, the price keeps going up on admission and parking. The price to rent a booth also keeps some of my favorite fishing suppliers from even considering renting a space there anymore. I have to admit, one review I also agree with is that a great deal of the vendors do not offer their products for sale at the show, at any price - which I think is not a good idea either. The vendors that offer completely non fishing related products keep expanding every year; flash lights, coolers and similar items are ok - but grandfather clocks and jewelry - no. Also, Turner's sporting goods takes up an ever expanding and huge space there and does not really offer products at the prices, quality or variety that I believe are warranted. The Fred Hall fishing show is fantastic way to spend the day!! No matter if you love to fish or just starting out. It almost fills the entire convention center with fishing gear, apparel, lures, guide services, lake resorts, boats, and a kids trout pond! It is a candy store for anyone who loves fish! I used to go here religiously for 10 years and the past few years i stopped going each year. Maybe it was the fact prices were going up, and the great deals and freebies were going south! I went for the first time in 5 years looking for a few leadheads. I ended up buying a pair of shorts , some lures, and I almost bought a rod! (if my friend didn't have to leave !) They have a vast amount of vendors that range from fresh and salt water: boats, fishing gear, vacations, clothing and hunting gear that will take down a rabbit to bears. You can bring the kids, the show is family friendly with catering trucks, fishing tank, and water competition for dogs. Went to the Long Beach version this year for the first time. I'm generally not a fan of crowds, so I went on a Friday. I think it's something that every fisherman (or hunter) should experience one in their lives. Lots of good deals, and I was able to purchase swimbaits at a really good price. Turner's has a huge booth with *great* deals if you get there early. The most compelling booth for me was an outfit (Avila's something) that offered no bag - no pay wild pig hunt for something like $600. Well worth the hassle. read more

Dont let Fred Hall burn a Hole in your pocket. I have been fishing for a long time and there has been many changes in this sport and unfortunately fishing is now turned into an expensive buisness. The prices to go fishing have gotten out of control Rods, Reels, Fishing tackle.Overnight trips. The DFG raises the prices every year for a fishing license they make millions charging for licensing and what do we as consumers get less in return. MLPA Closures now truth is there are less places to fish our rights and the future of this great sport is being threatened. Well I could go on but I think you know what im talking about. I got smart & stoppped going to this show years ago. The only people bottom line who are making money off this event Is the Hall Family, just stop and think Parking, Entrance Fee, and your also paying retail prices for what your buying. You really don't save any money at this show. So trust me dont waste your time driving over there, waiting to get in only to be disappointed. You will find better deals at local fishing tackle swap meets where parking is always free and so is the entrance be smart. read more

What else does a fisherman dream of but to be surrounded by rods and reels, hooks and line, lures and bait? Well ... FISH no doubt! But if you can't get away to go fishing this is a great outing (although pricey) with the family or your buddies. Lots of stuff to buy and see during this 5-day event in downtown Long Beach. Okay, what can you do here? First, there's several fish tanks that you can walk right up to then gaze at the fish you can't seem to hook in all your years of fishing. There's the dock dogs (one of my favorites) where you can watch these crazy dogs launch off a platform and grab a toy in the air all the while trying to vie for a prize for jumping the greatest distance. Then get your hands on some gun shooting, archery, fly casting, knot tying, or knife throwing! All free and it's a great introduction for the kids! Don't forget to visit the travel, landings, boats, and lakes booths. It's a great way to introduce you to new places to fish or hunt! Even learn how to cook fish and game from pro-chef Scott Leysath and even get to taste his creations! Yum! There's plenty more and the show changes every year, so when you get that copy of Western Outdoor News at the door, make sure you scan through it for the free seminars and talks and try to make some time for a couple. Then of course, the manufacturers and vendors. Just to clarify, a lot of people don't know that the manufacturers of tackle do not sell their products here. Even though they have a booth to "represent" their products, they have sold inventory to retailers which also have booths here which actually "sell" the items, often at a discount during the show. By visiting the manufacturers booth, you can learn about their new products and this is the place to get answers to your questions. THEN, you go into one of the dealers/retailers and buy what you need. Got it? If you don't know this, it can be confusing. But now you know. My biggest beef with this show is that parking is $15 a day, entrance is another $15 per person (15 and under free) and the $11 beers will leave you standing with empty pockets in front of that fishing reel you really "need"! I do understand what it takes to run a show like this. I've been on the vendor side of things and watched the Fred Hall show staff bring this show together. Year after year I come to this event and every single time I leave there with a smile. Literally. Just the sheer fact that this is a "toy" convention for grown adults. From the time we were kids to now, fishing will forever be in our blood. Now we all have a reason to congregate in one location and "ooh and aww" over stuff we already have. The Fred Hall show is marked in my calendar every year as an event that I must go to. Other plans are pushed aside specifically for this event. Birthday parties? Dinner plans? Friends in town? Weak Sauce!!!! Average tackle and most vendors didn't have what I was looking for. Shimano booth has all their nice rods and reels but then you cant find any of the gear at vendors in the show,Very disappointing. If it wasn't for the Dog jumping show and Trout fishing pool, this would have been a total bust. At least my son had fun. They need to step up the tackle game next year as most popular baits, rods and reels were not available here. Bunch of people selling nuts and travel packages. What you need to sell is FISHNG GEAR from the top names in the industry. If I wanted to go to Turners I can drive down the street. read more

I really like coming to their annual shows every year at the Long Beach Convention Center. The only thing I didn't like was the price of admission for regular adult 17 dollars. Fun to talk to all the people there selling their wares and fishing packages. read more
