[Coronavirus review] This is a pretty, manicured space in the heart of town, with numerous benches and spaces for picnics. The buildings are all closed during corona of course, but it's a nice green space to sit outdoors and get your Vitamin D in. There was a small parking lot on the south side of the area, but it might be easier to walk in from the neighborhood depending on where you are.

Fred Fletcher Park is right across the way from where I live, so I've got a first-hand view to all the goings on here! Not quite as nice as Pullen or Jordan Park, Fletcher still has some niceties to offer. Break a sweat at the two tennis courts, softball field, soccer fields (ultimate is also played here) or basketball court. Or run your dog on the lawn with a tennis ball! You've also got a new water park planted with NC plant-life, walk by at night and you can barely hear yourself think above the chorus of frogs croaking! On the other side is a flower garden and small stone circle next to the Borden Building, there are sometimes free concerts in this space. While Fred Fletcher Park doesn't offer the amenities and scenery of other Raleigh parks, it's a great green space for those of us who live in the hood!

The park's campus was a Methodist Church Orphanage for 80 Years. It remains a beautifully designed space for children of all ages to come out and play. There are amenities galore! Lots to explore from the water garden, outdoor art sculpture, tennis courts, basketball court, lots of dogs, paved walking paths, wildlife, playground, swing set, historic home The Borden Building 1900 rented for special events, practice fields (currently being used by Broughton High School Ultimate and lacrosse teams), baseball diamond, picnic pavilion (holds 8 picnic tables and can be rented), ample benches, amphitheater (also up for rent) and the Garris Building which houses Raleigh Parks and Recreation Youth Programs. Unfortunately for a park this size, THERE ARE NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS, except a temporary potable potty by tennis court. No five stars either. This seems like a terrible decision by the City of Raleigh. They do provide poop bags for your pets. The rest of us are out of luck. No smoking allowed. Only 18 parking spaces inside the park.

In 1808, he opened his first school, the site of which was located near the grounds of modern-day Chavis Park. There is rich black history here at this park. If you visit the community center on its grounds you can see the black and white photos adorning the walls of the center dating back to the 60's featuring the people of this African American community. This is a beautiful park that is home to the main attraction its early 20th-century carousel. Allan Herschell Carousel, showcases a Wurlitzer 146A band organ, oil paintings of waterfalls and other natural scenes, and thirty-six jumping, hand-carved, hand-painted horses. There are several indoor and outdoor spaces available to the public and for rent. In addition a playground, tennis courts, and a pool, the park offers a community center, picnic shelters, a gymnasium, a lit, outdoor track, a fitness center, and a game room. A half-mile of Raleigh's Capital Area Greenway traverses the park via Little Rock Trail. During the week my daughter attends basketball practice here and we love the view of the city skyline from the community center This is my favorite park in the Raleigh area.
