As you enter the studio, a positive and friendly atmosphere welcomes you. In an instant, you feel at ease and are excited and looking forward to this new experience. When I called the studio, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and take a chance to try to fulfill one of my childhood dreams. I was very nervous and unsure of how I would feel during my free intro lesson, but all of those feelings melted away immediately. The instructors are genuinely invested in helping their students learn as much as they can while making them feel comfortable and relaxed. They continuously evaluate their students' progress and challenge them every step of the way. The instructors take the time to get to know you. They figure out your learning style and learn what dances are most important to you. Furthermore, they make every effort to help you get all that you can out of the art of dance. It is evident that all of the instructors there are well informed on the learning process. They take the time to break the dances down clearly and then continue to expand your skills by building on prior knowledge. They provide a variety of dances for beginners to explore (examples: tango, waltz, salsa, hustle, rumba, swing, foxtrot, cha-cha) to give students a chance to determine what dances interest them the most. They are professionals who keep their students on track and focused. Every instructor is dedicated to inspiring and sharing their love of dance with others. Most importantly, they are supportive and do everything they can to make sure their students are learning and having fun while exploring their passion. I started my journey with Fred Astaire Marlboro around the beginning of December of 2022. I was referred to the studio by my sister, and by the end of my first lesson I knew that I didn't want to dance at any other studio. Even though there are studios closer to where I live, I drive 45 min just to come to this studio! I was a competitive social dancer in high school, and when compared to my previous experience; they provide excellent instruction for the level that their students are at. Jose is patient with me when I need to get the minutia of steps while also moving at the break neck speed that we are moving at. If you are hesitant or wondering where to start dancing, start here. They are well trained and work at the pace of each student to ensure that they receive the best instruction and experience. All staff members are wonderful people who are knowledgeable and passionate about the work that they do. When they talk about being a dance family, it is not a cliché line here. I look forward to the days that I have lessons not only to dance, but to be in a beautiful, creative, and safe space! My mom loved dancing and music, especially latin music, she passed that on to me at a very young age and I was hooked as well. We would always watch the ballroom dance competitions on television and Fred Astaire movies together, it was our favorite thing to do and a passion we shared. Those were the sweetest memories from my childhood and are with me forever. She used to push me to take lessons as I got older but I got caught up in school, work, and then eventually a family of my own. I always promised her that I would do it one day, my mother passed away when I was 41, here I am 54 years old and finally keeping my promise and fulfilling my own little childhood dream. I didn't know what to expect when I first walked into Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Marlboro 2 months ago, but after that initial lesson the energy level and the vibe was so intense and fun, I was addicted. It is truly my favorite thing to do and also great exercise. Devyn, Cristian, Jose and JoJo are so welcoming and friendly, and amazing dancers! It is an extremely positive and encouraging atmosphere. I cannot say enough about my instructor, Jose, he is so incredibly talented and so much fun to work with. He encourages and pushes me to do more than I even thought I could. I live in Morganville and use the Planet Fitness Marlboro nearby, so after passing this studio dozens of times, decided to sign up with my wife for dance lessons. From sign-up and orientation to lessons with our instructor to the group events, I cannot speak more highly of the experience. From the moment we walked in and were greeted warmly by Felicia, they turn what could be intimidating and uncomfortable into an amazing experience where I really connect with my wife. Our instructor, Jhodar Villegas was simply amazing, friendly, warm and reassuring, while also challenging us. She's very knowledgeable, patient and encouraging, and knows how to keep us on track, without pressuring us. We were actually surprised by what a great work-out this was for both of us and it's just so much fun. I also like how they are flexible to offer many different dance styles and really have established a community here. And we have met other couples, focused on nailing a routine for an upcoming wedding or anniversary, which is a great idea. For us, it's always a fun couples night. OMG!!!!! Jhodar is amazing amazing amazing... Backstory: Since I was a little girl, my mom would dance with me all around the house. We had no idea what we were doing but we twirled and spun and danced to Selena and Donna Summer every night. With my wedding coming up (11-11-22), we knew we wanted to do something special together, but we weren't sure how to fit it in. When my dad passed away 10 months before my wedding, my mom and I knew we had to do a big, grand mother daughter dance to some of my dad's favorite songs to honor him. JoJo went above and beyond to mix my dad's song to me as a baby with some Selena for my mom and of course, a bit of Earth, Wind, and Fire to really bring my dad's spirit to the room on the big night! Working with JoJo was so much fun, inspiring, the perfect combo of easy and challenging, and she gave us the best mother daughter dance! She brought our old dancing days back to life and we honestly couldn't have been matched with a better instructor! My fiance (hubby in T-22 days) has been trying to convince me to take a dance class for 3 years. I never thought I could learn to dance past my 2 step and NJ fist pump "dance moves". We went to Fred Astaire on a whim and are so grateful that we did. When you walk into the doors you will be greeted with warm smiles from Cristian and Devyn. They make you feel at home and then well... they make you dance! Cristian has been working with us since January. Cristian and Devyn really make learning to dance fun. I am still amazed that Cristian was able to get through to me. Everyone learns differently, and he is always looking for new ways to break down learning. He taught us rumba, fox trot, waltz, east/west coast swing, and hustle. Through this variety in dance he has been designing the ULTIMATE FIRST DANCE for our wedding. If you ever thought about learning to ballroom dance, you have to try a lesson at Fred Astaire in Marlboro/Englishtown. It is one of the best things I have ever done. I started at a late age with no prior dance experience and no partner. The owners and instructors are amazing....friendly, funny, unintimidating and of course super experienced Dancers/teachers. I first saw the dance studio randomly while driving by on Route 9. I was so excited because I used to ballroom dance in another state and was happy that a studio opened up so close to home. Rt. 9 is a great location and is very convenient to get to. Devyn and Cristian are so welcoming and do a great job at explaining the Fred Astaire method of dancing/ teaching. I was hesitant at first to take classes at a Fred Astaire because I was used to dancing in smaller studios. I thought the service that would be provided would be "generic" but I'm glad I was wrong. Cristian and Devyn are the best! They are so full of energy and are extremely supportive.
