Always trying to upsell "preventative" maintenance you dont need. Today, they wanted to charge me over $200 for fuel injection service that included "and additive to the gas tank that cleans out sludge" and $300 for rear brake pads. Ridiculous! I was in for oil change and tire rotation. I questioned why those things were needed and decided to decline service today. They told me it would be an hour and a half to 2 hours for the oil change. They must be trying to remove the oil filters with their feet and that's why it takes them so long. I dunno. Anyway, after about 10 minutes, a different "service manager " approached me to "answer my questions " which was just really round 2 of the high pressure sales push. It's so obnoxious to come here. If i hadn't purchased the stupid maintenance agreement, I would never set foot in their service dept again! I did let them align my wheels. When the service manager brought me the sheet, she explained that "red was bad." I noted my back wheels had been 10 degrees off. I commented about that and said "Woo-wee! I don't know how I was able to keep that car in a straight line!" She didn't get it. Save time and aggravation and take your car to a real mechanic that does honest work and doesn't speak to you like you are stupid. I don't need a fancy coffee machine. Thanks. read more

I've been dealing with Fred Anderson Subaru for about a year, since I bought an Outback from them as a 10th anniversary present for my wife. I've also had two routine service experiences, including this morning. Both the sales and service experiences were exemplary. I feel I got a fair deal on the purchase, and the purchase process was reasonably quick with minimal upselling. Both service visits went well, today I was in and out in under an hour for an oil and cabin filter change and tire rotation plus an annual state safety inspection. The waiting area is large, open and comfortable. I'm not usually a fan of dealership service depts, but Fred Anderson is quick and fair. Can't ask for much more. read more

Brought my car in for an oil change. The next time I drove my car, nearly all of the oil leaked out of the engine. Smoke was coming from the hood of my car, burning oil was splattered everywhere, and my engine was making a clicking noise. The worst part about the situation was that they told me that the vehicle had been serviced appropriately, then one of their mechanics must have thought the car had just been brought in and proceeded to loosen everything, then the car was returned to me... What they did is incredibly dangerous and I am lucky that I was not injured. The dealership only provided limited options to remedy the situation, and the only realistic option involves me dealing with necessary service for future damage that presents itself. The most unrealistic option was them asking me to pay $7000 on top of trading in my vehicle, to obtain a vehicle with similar mileage to mine. Bringing a car here to be serviced is a definite risk. Please save yourself from the dangers of their service and go elsewhere. read more

After having continuous battery problems with a brand new 2025 Outback, I brought it back to Fred Anderson Subaru to trade for a Nissan. They were unable to deal with Nissan, so they offered to buy it outright from me. Jack Bouressa, who acted like my best friend, brokered a deal wherein I really got robbed. The car had some kind of white (plastic?) stuff painted all over the positive pole/screws of the battery, so there must have been a problem either from the factory or the dealership. I thought I had paid a lot less than I did for it because I bought it on a trade, but Jack (and the "Manager" he kept having to run downstairs to talk to) knew. More interaction is needed between the mechanic and the client. Their use of "service managers" leads to confusion over repair needs and options available to customer. Pushy on expensive repairs, misdiagnosed issues, unwillingness to do simple testing leads to, of course, to much higher profits for this dealership. I have had Subaru for over a decade and really miss the professionalism of Prestige Subaru. Will travel outside of Asheville to get my next subaru. read more

I bought the platinum service plan. Every time I go in for service, I wait 2+ hours even for just an oil change. Since they moved to their new location, there is a push for me to get additional optional services that are not covered by my pricey platinum plan. Now, I am getting emails that some mysterious concern was identified the last time I was in for service (2 weeks ago) and need to come in for service again. Shady service department. This dealership is the definition of a big corporation that hides behind policy instead of fixing obvious mistakes. I sold them my Bronco and they issued a check with only the numbers filled in, not the written amount. Wells Fargo rejected it and the Federal Reserve flagged the check. After two days of three-way calls with my bank, Wells Fargo clearly told them to stop payment and send an ACH or wire instead. They knew the situation and Leadership here is cold, rigid, and indifferent. They dragged me along for two days, even asked for my banking info, which made me think they'd finally do the right thing--then refused to take action. They have my car, I have no money, and their only "solution" is for me to return a bad check in person after I get back in the country in 10 days. This is my second major issue with Fred Anderson Automotive Group and I will never do business with them again. Stay far away. read more

Called for an appointment for our "free oil change" as part of the sales pitch when we bought the car. Gave the phone person our mileage and were told to come in at a certain day and time. When we arrived were told we needed the 30,000 mile maintenance to qualify for the free oil change. Since we had not been told beforehand and hadn't figured in a 3 1/2 hour wait, we tried to compromise and get the oil change then and schedule another time for the rest of the work. Were told the oil change would then be ~$90. The conversation deteriorated at that point with neither side willing to budge. Prestige Subaru is part of the Fred Anderson company of auto dealers. Apparently the party line is to bait and switch customers. Not telling you to not deal with them. however, be forewarned you too may be the victim of a similar bait and switch tactic, which is illegal in North Carolina. read more

bought a 2020 subaru forester here.They seem to insist on sticking to the Subaru manual suggested maintenance schedule regardless of number of miles on vehicle. My vehicle barely has 51,000 miles on it but yesterday they tell me I need a 60,000 mile service that would cost almost 700 bucks.Apparently it is mileage or time,whatever comes first.Are they incapable of doing a check of fluids,belts,spark plugs,hoses,filters,etc. and evaluating what needs to be changed/serviced and only replacing what actually NEEDS to be done?Apparently you have to go along with this program to get a free oil change.Well spending 700 bucks to get a 90 buck oil change free is not a net gain.Better to pay for the oil change and have them give you their inspection check list.But NO-they send you a video of the inspection and apparently the customer is supposed to note from that what needs to be done.No.I am not going to sit down and make note from a video of what needs attention-that is their job.FFS read more

I scheduled service for my Subaru Forester and was told it could be 3 hours in duration. They told me my 10:15 appointment would be fine for it to be completed. Around 11:30 they informed me that it would take 3 hours and they didn't have the time that day. They suggested that I rent a car. The cost would be $340 and $165 an hour for labor. For service department - Made an appointment for tire rotation, oil change, and differential oil change. All of that can take about 1 hour give or take. I've been here for 2 hours and 15 minutes!! Feel like they spent more time recording a video to convince me to pay for more services than to get me in and out for what I made an appointment for. My late father in law purchased a used car here. He passed away less than a year later. We went to see if they would buy back the car and even though it had not been driven much they offered less than 1/2 what he still owed on his loan. They not only put him in an upside down loan but at a grotesque interest rate (luckily he was able to refinance with his local credit unit shortly after purchasing it so, no, his credit wasn't the problem). Also he went to purchase a Subaru and the sales person pushed him on a Nissan Juke. Not a very practical car for an elderly person. They took advantage of an old man. I believe the service folks at Prestige do an excellent job given the "structural environment" they are working in. So I would give the service people, themselves, high marks. At the same time, I would give the "service structure" very low marks. I recently brought in a 2013 Outback I had recently purchased at Prestige because it failed to pass inspection due to a performance issue regarding the car's catalytic converter. I had been driving the car roughly a year with very low additional mileage so it was surprising to me something was so off kilter with the converter. The mechanic at the inspection site felt like the fix would be less than $200. With the service department's assessment of the car, I was given an estimate of more than $7,500 for replacing the converter and sealing an oil leak. I thought there must be a typographic error in the quote. I immediately took the car to an independent mechanic who indicated he could address all the issues for less than a thousand dollars. I was born in the forties so maybe I'm a product of my age and time on earth. I'd just like to say that charging the sort of prices Prestige charges seems wildly out of proportion with services provided in after market garages. (Understanding fully Prestige's liability issues.) The service people I met with were fine to work with and understanding but the system seems dramatically wrong-headed in the sticker-shock department when I really believe these fixes could be provided at a substantially lower level of investment by the vehicle owner, especially when the car came from that same dealership. read more

My active duty military son broke down just little way north of Asheville in his way back home from Thanksgiving holiday with family. He had his car towed to the closest Subaru dealership to him (NOT PRESTIGE) in order to trade his car in on a new Subaru. He was quoted one price (MSRP) and when he got there, the price went up $6k and they only offered him $500 for his 2015 car. He called Prestige and got Austin who was very professional and assured him that if he made the trip to Asheville to buy his new Subaru, he would not have a price increase once he got there and they would do their best to get him the car he wanted at a fair price that wasn't above MSRP. They honored their word, made him an awesome deal in his new car, were fair and honest with his trade in, helped him with a rental car until his new car arrives and even drove him to the uhaul store to turn in the truck and trailer he had to rent to get his old car there. They treated him with respect and dignity and they have earned my highest recommendation!! In a moment when a lot of dealerships are charging above MSRP on new cars, they do not!
