Always exceptional authentic Mexican food! The flautas and cheese enchiladas were delicious as the special of the day. My husband choose three street tacos - carne asada chicken and pork. He loved all but he said the pork was outstanding Because the meat was so tender and flavorful! Frankie's gives you delicious chips and salsa, the salsa can be a bit on the spicy side for kids just as a sidenote ! They do have other options available, though. I had lunch at Franky's which was a first for me. I ordered the wet burrito..which turned out to be huge! It's an enormous portion. I did have a problem with it being undercooked. We decided to try Frankie's because I kept hearing how great it was. I forget the people in our area think Hacienda is good food. Well the food was not good at all. We tried all of the tacos and the only one worth trying again was the barbacoa. The rice and beans were okay. The tamales filled with scrap meat and fat chunks. No flavor. Frankie's Sunday brunch buffet is so amazing. It's super high quality and fresh. Ok here we go. The homemade Barbacoa cheese grilled tacos steels the show. We usually have takeout. However the food is great and the menu is large with many selections. The items on the menu are traditionally items offered by most other Mexican restaurants. The only reason I decided to try out the food is because everyone was saying how good the food is. Well my experience was not so good . I ordered 2 taco dinners one was burnt the other was ok. I didn't know because the bag was tightly tied. So I didn't check it before I left, which was my fault. My first thought when I walked in the carryout was there is a lot going on. The best part as soon as you walk in they ask for your name and hand you your call in order. Next you checkout but the person cashing you out is having a lengthy conversation on the phone and your waiting longer than you want. I suggest you have someone answer the calls and take the orders. Chili Rellenos were a waste. Mozzarella cheese wasn't even fried enough to melt the cheese. The cheese was still in a hard state. I know Oaxaca cheese is far more expensive. It's a stretchy, stringy, creamy cheese with a mild, buttery, slightly salty flavor and a yellowish-white hue. It's a rindless cheese, which is why it's often rolled into a yarn-like ball and sold in a rope shape. This helps preserve the semi-soft cheese's flavor and elasticity." Maybe in the future?? We did an order to go for 5 people. All the food was mediocre. Nothing was stellar. The flour tortillas were so small. The chicken in the street taco was not great. Sauces with it were simply hot or mild. I personally won't be back. I just wanted better. It was recommended to us but just didn't stand up to their expectations. read more

We decided to make a first time stop into Franky's because of all the good things I've read and heard about them. Very disappointed. They were a little on the busy side but looked like they had enough staff to cover. We were told to go have a seat at an empty table that the hostess point to. We waited about 5 mins before she came over and just slid the menus onto the table from behind me. We waited another 10 mins for chips and salsa. Young man took our drink order. After another 10 mins I went up to the counter to get the drinks. About 5 mins later he took our food order. Food took about 20 mins to arrive. The food was ok. My husband got the Quesabirria meal and I got the Taco bowl with chicken. Neither one of our meals had much flavor. I got the homemade lemonade and it just takes like sugar water. I squeezed in the limes from my husband's meal just to have some flavor. Definitely not worth $4 The chips and salsa were the best part of the meal. The menudo was some of the best I have had during my travels across the states. The barbacoa was tender , juicy and tasty. The tamale was great and the homage flour tortillas were awesome! Please try this gem of a Mexican restaurant located on the far west side of South Bend in the River Park enclave. You will be glad you did. read more

We have been several times. Sadly this last time was horrific. We arrived. Waited 15 minutes at our table to even get chips and salsa and have drink orders taken. We were a party of four and given 2 menus. Told there were no more menus. It then took 45 minutes after ordering to even get our food. We ask to talk to a manager. We get told there is no manager there. Then we are told they can't get a hold of Franky. Then we are told he is on his way in. Then we are told he doesn't have time to talk to us. Finally we are given our check. No apology, no discount. Nothing. Just acting like it's normal to wait 45 minutes for food. Between all the delays we were there nearly 2 hours. I understand that mistakes happen, but our experience was incredibly disappointing. I brought my three young children (all 5 and under), and we sat for over an hour with no food--only to be told that our order was "lost." What made it worse was the manager's response. Instead of showing concern or offering a solution, she brushed it off by saying, "We lose tickets all the time. It's very busy back there in the kitchen." That kind of service is unacceptable, especially when dining with little ones. We won't be returning, and I hope management begins to take customer experiences more seriously. read more

Top tier. Best of the best around the area. My only complaint is their table salsa seems more spicy than it should be. Service was great - food was horrid- some things may be better than others but I orders the Biria- I'm realize now just because your store says "authentic" doesn't equate to good. The dipping sauce had no flavor and actually tasted like colored vegetable oil. I got sick after leaving this place which may or may not have been their fault- jury is still out - I suggest you stick with tamales or something similar just incase. Oh yea the California burrito was about 3 as well- didn't remind me of California at all. Ordered the loaded fries. They were soggy barely cooked. I ordered it with pickled jalapeno. They topped with fresh jalapeno instead. The ground beef was not very well seasoned. It looked like a mess and tasted as much. Not good at all. The only thing I could taste in the guac was lime and cilantro. It overpowered the rest of the ingredients. Couldn't even taste the onion that was in it. Poorly made and tasted like it came out of a can. Ordered a side of the crispy fries. They were anything but crispy. Soggy and barely fried. They tasted microwaved. Had a side of chips and salsa. There was enough salsa to eat only 10 chips (yes, I counted). The salsa container was only 2/3 full. That left nearly a whole bag of chips without salsa. The salsa tasted like it came out of a jar and not freshly made. We also ordered the enchilada dinner. Wife said they were okay but not great. She felt the same about the guac that I did. The rice was mediocre but tolerable. Neither one of us ate it all... not because it was filling but because it just wasn't enjoyable. Way overpriced for the quality. Better restaurants with better quality food for a lesser price are in the area. Avoid this place. We will not be spending our money with them again. read more

First time here tonight, & I've been wanting to go for months! Disappointed. Service was acceptable enough, waiting 45 minutes to get our food was not. Twice our waitress said it would be out soon; another waitress walked by & asked if we were still waiting for our food which we said yes. Marguerita on the house for the wait...& we still waited. Food arrived, part of it was nicely hot, rice & beans were room temp. I was so hoping this could be our go-to for Mexican food, but highly likely we were a once & done.
