$2 Flan that you can buy at the store
Lauren O.

I ordered through DoorDash and got a burrito which was okay, some stale chips (80% sure they're off-brand Tostitos, definitely not made in house), salsa that tastes like water, and a pre-packaged flan I'm extremely unimpressed and won't be ordering anything from them again. There are far better Mexican restaurants nearby.

Delicious combo plate. Are you drooling yet? You should be...

I can honestly say that this is some of the freshest, best tasting Mexican food I've eaten. Living in Vegas there is no shortage of good, authentic Mexican cuisine but I was impressed. Flamingo's is attached to a market that sells fresh produce and Hispanic food. You can tell everything here is homemade and fresh. Our waitress was super friendly and took her time telling us about the menu and what comes with our meals. I had the combo plate with a taco, quesadilla, and tamale and could barely finish everything on my plate. Not one to quit though I managed to devour every delicious bite! My ex boyfriend-but-we're-trying-to-be-friends (cue the awkward emoji) had the 3 beef American style tacos. He isn't easily impressed and is hesitant trying new places but he really enjoyed his food. 2 dinners + 2 pops + unlimited chips and salsa for $20? Consider me a fan!

First time visit. I had a wet burrito and Maria had enchiladas. Fist the positive: Good service. Great chips. Food had good flavor. Negative: Food was not hot when served. Food seemed to have a lot of salt in it. Enchiladas covered in sour cream, should of been cheese. Cook's error.

Very good Pastor (pork) Street Tacos. Not specifically on the menu, but ready to order. Cash only.

Paraiso Style Taco

The tacos I ordered were nothing spectacular (I expected more than one slice of avocado per taco as well), but with enough tomatillo salsa they were pretty delicious. The price was extremely affordable and service was quick, so really no real complaints! Would probably come again if I'm in the area and craving cheap Mexican food.

I still am a regular at Flamingo's but unfortunately my opinion of them has gone downhill. Their definitely not what they once where. When I first started dining at Flamingo's they were the talk of the town and had extremely reasonable prices for everything on their menu, and would have certain specials on certain days such as dollar tacos on Monday's and Wednesday's. Their Mexican style tacos used to be $1.50 and their America style tacos used to be $2.00, and now they went from $2.00 to 2.50. And all of their other tacos have increased by about 50 to 75 cents. Their Chalupas and tostadas used to be around $3.49-3.99 and now.....they went up to $5.99!!!! My GOSH!!! Flamingo's got rid of their dollar taco days and raised their prices. Also they have gotten stingy with portions for certain entrees. Mainly their tacos. To charge $2.00 for a taco and give a person a small spoon sized scoop of meat per taco...... not cool!!!! Smh. What happened to the old Flamingo's? Why did they become this way? They had a good thing going so just like that old saying if it ain't broke don't fix it!!! I also noticed the former staff that used to work at Flamingo's is no longer there and the staff that works there now either A: are brand new and they don't know what their doing or B: act like they don't want to be bothered serving you and are obviously there for a paycheck and have extremely poor customer service skills. Thank goodness the quality of the food is still awesome. Im saddened by demise of Flamingo's dinning experience and raised prices. I used to feel at home eating there, and like I was getting a deal for my dollar. Now I just feel like another face in the crowd that got ripped off.

Flavor and ambiance like Oaxacan cooking school! I look forward to meetings in South Bend even with 400-mile round trip drive!

A couple years ago this place was fire.. Now , we won't return . We showed up last night - Please seat yourself sign was up... the place has approx. 10 tables & booths total. There was places to sit but no cleaned off tables. we sat down to a dirty booth.. waited about 15 mins-- waitress comes over - takes dirty plates and takes our drink order.. EVERYONE JUST WANTED ICE WATER. Waitress brings chips & salsa and water ... Burnt brown chips, very little salsa in bowl and water has no ice -- everyone else got ice but me LOL slightly chilled water at best. My husband asked if there was another bowl of salsa -- TURNS out NO - they ran out of salsa .. husband was positive it was the same bowl of used salsa that was on the dirty table when we sat down. Then we waited 35 mins... no food still... so we left.. we won't return. Waitress help have been awful there for the past year.. nvr the same one but always very lazy women. Its a CHORE to get their job done. Not sure if they comprehend what a waitress job is. We now understand why there is so many TAKE OUT ORDERS.

I spent most of my birthday this year on a plane. We did eat a late dinner at Huck Finn in Oak…read moreLawn, Illinois, but my parents wanted to celebrate my (and Marlene's) belated birthday(s) with, well, Tom and Marlene, so my parents asked me to pick a spot. I love finding good places that Tom and Marlene haven't been. At first, I thought this was the Mexican restaurant on the south side of McKinley Street, but that one is long gone. I believe it was was called Cancun--or was it Acapulco? In any case, we drove separately because Tom and Marlene had some of their typical do-gooding to do, and I was a little surprised at how late they were. Well, they had gone to a takeout version of Puerto Vallarta (the same business?) located near where that other old closed Mexican restaurant was, but on the north side of McKinley. In any case, Puerto Vallarta--the real one tucked way behind a secret strip mall with this weird fire lane between the first line of parking spots and the storefront curb itself--is a great place. The menu is pretty vast for a sit-down Mexican restaurant in South Bend, and it's not just different versions and combinations of the same items, although you can seemingly get anything as part of a combination plate. The service is excellent and attentive. It was very busy when we came, and we were seated right when a lot of other people were seated, so our food did take a long time, but it wasn't ridiculously long, and our server continually stopped by to let us know what was happening and to refill water and complimentary chips. There are two or three dining rooms total, and we were seated in the one to the right as you walk in the door. I'm glad we weren't seated in the main (?) central room, because that's where they had a speaker on one of the tables playing music very loudly. I thought this would annoy me, but when you're in one of the other rooms, the music is at a reasonable volume. I guess their method is cheaper than actually installing a sound system throughout the restaurant, but I don't know who actually sits in that main room, because it was empty when we entered and had only two parties dining when we left. There was basketball on the TV when we were here, but the volume was turned off, and they have what looks like an antenna service without an actual antenna, so the broadcast was constantly dropping out for long periods during the entirety of our dinner. I wasn't interested in watching, so I didn't care, but if you're coming here to watch a game, you will be torturing yourself. Our dining room was festive and fun. It was also reassuring to see so many Latino families eating here and to hear them speaking Mexican-accented Spanish. I grew up in Southern California and have lived in the Golden State most of my life; I never judge a Mexican restaurant by who's eating inside it at home, but in the Midwest? Yup, Mexican restaurants get the same treatment as Chinese restaurants everywhere: The more Chinese people you see eating at the restaurant, the better the restaurant. It's also nice to see how many more Latinos there are in Michiana than when I lived there.

Carne asada burrito also good with plenty of steak and lime. Fresh salsa to start mild but good, fresh flavor. Ambiance fine with many families. Key was excellent price point for overall quality food, service and experience.

He made me a really good skinny margarita with Tajín rim, he even suggested good tequilas to try! The chips and guacamole were amazing! I was a little disappointed that they don't have a queso appetizer. I tried the beef sope which was pretty good. I got the Michoacán fajitas and even though he did tell me that they use some of their Thai sauce in them, I did not like it. It was very sweet and had a weird flavor. I much prefer traditional fajita seasoning, so keep that in mind when you are ordering. It is a very large portion for the price so expect leftovers! The beef was definitely overcooked and dry. Even though these items weren't marked as gluten free I assumed they were because I got corn tortillas but I did end up having a reaction so I should have clarified better before ordering. He let me try all the salsas - mild was no spice and honestly not much flavor, medium was very spicy and hot was basically inedible for me. I did not try the Thai food, but might if I am ever back in the area. As for ambiance there isn't much to be honest. The bar was sad. All the liquor just sitting on metal wire racks with no actual bar or shelves. The restaurant furniture all looks old and needs to be updated.
