Love how shaded this park is! Even in the heat of summer, it's definitely bearable. There's a little water creek that runs in the summer for kids to play in! Bring some water toys and have your kids be entertained for hours! There are different set of swings- 2 baby swings, 2 normal swings, and a tire swing. There are two sets of play areas- one area for smaller children and one with more advanced equipment for older kids. There is also a sandbox with all sorts of buckets and toys to play in the sand. The ground surface of the playground consist of wood chips. Not the best for little ones who aren't walking/ are starting to walk. There are also walking/ biking paths around the playground. There are several picnic tables spread around the park- we've brought our lunch/ dinner there before and it's always an enjoyable time! There are also nice bathrooms!

Fun playground with inclusive pathways to play, bathrooms, shelter houses, trails, ball fields--fun for all ages!

All ages and abilities will find something to enjoy with plenty of shade and amenities!

If you're looking for a park with lots of shade this summer, this is the place. The trees are huge and they provide shade for the whole playground. It's perfect when the sun is just too much! The playground is pretty big. One for older kids and one for the littles. There are swings and a sandbox too. There's a nature playground in the back with a little man made stream and logs for climbing on. There is a large covered picnic shelter and bathrooms available. There are plenty of benches and picnic tables around the playground too. A large paved walking trail surrounds the park. It's always busy! Add this park to your summer bucket list. You won't regret it!

It has all of the above except for the toddler swings. Not an end-all for us because, honestly, my toddler mainly just collects rocks and sticks the whole time and has a blast doing so. This park feels very safe, which is the biggest pro! Definitely high on our list of parks.

The playground equipment is suitable for children of various ages, including a rock climbing wall, monkey bars, slides, a fireman's pole and other such features. For my preschool children, the monkey bars are too high to reach, but they are able to enjoy themselves with all of the other attractions. The especially love to climb on the twisted green curve structure, the likes of which I have never seen on another playground, and to go down the steep slides. The park feels very safe due to both its isolation and the regular comings and goings of police officers into the City Hall building and parked in the lot. (Anyone who has ever driven up and down 63rd Street in this neighborhood knows well that the Mission Hills police officers like to catch speeding motorists by hiding on Mission Drive and other such small residential roads) There are three benches surrounding the playground. Usually one or two of the is in the shade at any given hour. Although it is impossible to see the entire playground from any one of the benches, the area is such that one can sit and watch his or her children playing fairly well from these seats. There is also a picnic table located off of the parking lot, near the outbuilding. Perhaps the best feature of this park is the public restrooms located in a small outbuilding off of the parking lot. As those with potty trained young children know, the need for a child to relieve himself often comes suddenly and most urgently, so it is delightful to have a clean facility on site. It is one spacious stall (with plantation shutters on the inside window, no less--swanky!), and it is clean. It remains open during daytime hours. Rumors suggest that a brick walkway to it from the playground may be added in the future.

Very central location if you're coming from the south or from the north Biggest recommendation is figure out where you're gonna meet ahead of time so you're not driving around going as it near the tennis courts or the front or the rose garden that type of thing because it is about a mile around so there's lots of different areas to park

The open greenspace, the beauty of the paths, or even the rose garden in season makes for a sensational day at the park. There are photo op spots at virtually every corner of the park. If the fountain is going in the rose garden, then it is a popular place for a bushel of pics. The swale in the middle of the park, lined with bald cypress trees, offers many shady, comfortable spots for a picnic or just a rest. String yourself up your own hammock between trees and catch a cozy nap or a comfortable spot to read. Check out the raised placards for a memorial of the Battle of Westport, emphasizing Kansas City's part during the Civil War. Everyone loves a little history, and to do so looking to the west and learning about that conflict 160+ years ago, you can actually see it in your mind's eye. To place that memorial with beautiful green space is a nod to how Kansas City makes the most of its public real estate. Park in any number of lots or even find a spot on one of the side streets. Restrooms are open in nice weather, and there's plenty of spots in which to reserve a pavilion. Outstanding Kansas City landmark!

Unfortunately the city of Prairie Village decided to do improvements and the new playground equipment isn't friendly to smaller children. The toddler playground you see in the pictures is no longer there and other than the sandbox or climbing on the nature area with logs, there really isn't a lot for toddlers to do. It's a great park for older kids, but it's unfortunate that the only park within walking distance for us is no longer friendly to small children.
