Our daughter will not be able to live correctly in a homeless shelter. She needs 24 hours care, she is not able to take care of daily living skills having a Bipolar Schizoaffective disorder. They want her to sign papers on Monday 23, 2023 to start the discharge process. I do not understand how this place is supposed to help people with mental issues and just throw them in the street. They mentioned they are looking for a better place but if they do not have one in 30 days she goes to a homeless shelter. How can our health system do this to people who can not help themselves? Their reason is they can not handle her mental illness behaviors, so they send her to a homeless shelter. It takes a lot of time to find another facility, a lot of paperwork 30 days is not enough. She deserves to be treated with dignity, she did not ask to be mentally ill. Our daughter needs someone to give her meds and make sure she's doing the needed thing to live correctly. As her family we can not provide her with this, we tried very hard but we needed serious help. Plus, we are older now and can not keep up with her behaviors like a full-staff facility can. If she goes into a homeless shelter we will lose her to the streets, and without her meds, she will not be alive long. Plus, Mayor Adams talked about our city and mentioned the issues of the homeless and mentally ill being disregarded, how can this be right? Can someone please help us or give suggestions? We are looking for a lawyer that handles cases like our daughter's or a Supervised Support Housing Facility that deals with mentally ill adults, We agree she needs a more Supervised Facility but we need more time to locate one for her. Insurance is Medicaid We just reaching out for Lawyer or Supervised Support Housing Facility Thank you All

There was a room full of catatonic looking elderly folk (no offense) staring emptily at one another in a circle. My partner had on filthy sneakers that stank of fungus. His toenails had turned deep yellow from the fungus they let fester there. He had no cane. They couldn't find his hearing aid which he is completely dependent on and affects his balance. Someone claimed they give him walks, his legs have Peripheral Artery Disease and they had large swollen bubbles of possibly retained water. My partner seemed groggy, distant and depressed. They have a yard but the place is like an abusive prison. What kind of assisted living place keeps a deaf man for 12 days without a hearing aid. My guess is one with no doctors or much medical staff. Skip this jail. If you know of someone here, pull a Shawshank redemption and break them out. They claim to charge $3,800 a month for this place. WHO are they kidding!!! Notice there's almost no pictures and their activities calendar stopped in 2017 !! It's not an assisted living facility, it's a warehouse.

I have been a resident for a few months now and I highly recommend it. The location is extraordinary. It is on a quiet street, but two blocks from the hustle and bustle of downtown Flushing with its many stores and transportation options. Manhattan is an easy commute, just a 5-minute walk to the LIRR station and a 15-minute ride to Penn Station or Grand Central. I work part-time in Manhattan, and I've never had an easier commute! Queens College, with its plays and excellent musical offerings, is a quick ride on a nearby bus. Flushing Town Hall with its stellar jazz program is four blocks away. The beautiful Flushing Library is an easy walk, as is Macy's and one of the best pizzerias in Queens. Here at Flushing House itself, there are many interesting offerings - book club, language clubs, exercise programs, both domestic and foreign movies, and a lovely rooftop atrium that is open 24 hours a day. There are many food options at each meal and, once you realize all the choices you have ( on and off the menu) you can always find something you like. One can pick up meals and take them back to one's apartment, but the communal dining room has been a way for me to meet other residents and make the acquaintance of some lovely people. The staff is kind, hardworking and understanding with residents (even when a resident might be cranky!). My apartment is very sunny, clean, and comfortable, and weekly housekeeping is included. If you are an active older adult wondering what the next step in life should be, come to one of the frequent open houses that Flushing House hosts and see for yourself. You may find, as I did, that it is a lovely place in a great location with a price that is very reasonable considering all that is included.

11/7/25- If you care about your loved ones, please read this review (Google reviews paint a…read moredifferent picture than the ones posted here) and visit this facility before sending them here. I wouldn't send my worst enemy. The building is rundown like a dilapidated hospital straight out of an apocalyptic movie, and many staff members are unkind, unprofessional, inconsiderate, and shockingly rude. I genuinely don't understand why people with no social skills or empathy choose to work in a field that requires both -- especially when they're responsible for caring for someone else's family. My grandmother has unfortunately been here since February 2025, and it has been one of the worst experiences of her life. She hates it there, and it's easy to see why. I had a breakdown the first time I visited her, seeing the conditions she was forced to live in due to an ongoing legal case. The entire place feels bleak. It looks like nothing has been updated since the 90s. Her shared room is tiny -- smaller than a prison cell -- with a barely functioning TV, a dusty, broken AC unit, and filthy, chipped wallpaper. There aren't even phones in the rooms. She's lost a disturbing amount of weight. On top of her drastic weight loss, my grandmother has been sick multiple times while there. During my most recent visit, she was coughing nonstop, struggling to breathe, and still wasn't receiving proper attention. She has also been complaining about pain in her left hand since before September; despite us notifying staff months ago, the issue has gotten worse to the point where she can barely move her finger, and yet they still haven't given her so much as a basic finger splint, something she specifically requested. You have to call the front desk just to be transferred, and if no one answers -- which is often -- you go hours without speaking to your loved one. When I visit, the halls are empty and nurses sit by the elevators on their phones, yet staff insists they're "administering medicine." Calling earlier doesn't help; no one answers then either. I began calling at 4 PM. After multiple failed attempts, someone answered but the second-floor line rang nonstop. I tried again an hour later with the same result. When I asked if something was wrong, the attendant said she paged them, got no response, and asked if I wanted to call back or speak to a supervisor. The supervisor sounded completely disinterested. I explained I'd been trying to contact my grandmother for over three hours, and she cut me off mid-sentence to ask for her name, then repeated the same excuse. I told her I visit frequently and know the nurses on that floor are not that active. She spoke over me, forcing me to raise my voice just to be heard -- and then she hung up. When I called back, she refused to pick up. When I called to ask for her name, the front desk gave only "Miss Chen" and claimed they didn't know her first name. Apparently there's no staff directory? Makes no sense. The attendant (Marie, so she claimed) later said Miss Chen refused to give her full name because I "cursed" at her, which is completely false. I was literally recording the call. I only raised my voice because I was being talked over while trying to advocate for my grandmother. As a family member, when I cannot reach my loved one because staff won't answer the phone, I have every right to ask why. Their refusal to communicate, followed by hanging up and lying -- is outrageous. They choose not to provide phones to patients, then use that to block families from reaching them. It truly feels intentional, like they're trying to hide how poorly people are treated. If a hospital denied a patient proper care, prevented them from speaking with family, and then refused to disclose which staff were responsible, it would be a scandal -- yet this nursing home behaves exactly that way, with zero shame or accountability. I hold onto the day when she's finally home with us, surrounded by people who truly care, and can begin to heal the way she never could here.

They treated my mom with respect, love, and good humor. The place is clean, has lovely furnishings and decorations (which my mom always liked!), and a good variety of different places for seniors to visit, sit, and walk. There were always fun events planned for the seniors, including parties, concerts, crafts, movies, Bingo, lectures, and more. I loved receiving a daily email from the facility with information about the menu and events so I could remind mom about fun things to do. As the years progressed, mom had increasingly challenging health issues, but the folks at Brandywine scaled up their support and took such good care of her. I was able to go to work every day knowing that she was in good hands. And I also feel that Brandywine didn't just care for Mom, but they were also so supportive of our family at each stage of my Mom's decline - they were kind, caring, knowledgeable, and served as thoughtful partners in my caregiving. I am especially appreciative of Asif in the Wellness Center, Janet in Customer Care, Lisa (one of the caregivers), Jeremy at the front desk (who put up with my constant phone calls!), Toni in the business office, and everyone else whose names I missed. Each time I drive past Brandywine I miss mom, but I am thankful that she was able to spend her final years of life in the care of such wonderful people. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a caring community for their loved one.
