I visited here on vacation from America with some friends who lived nearby and recommended this was…read morea great spot to get a traditional roast. They were right! The service was spectacular, we had someone checking in on us very often and we had a vegetarian at the table that was catered to appropriately. The owner was very gracious and even brought us over some extra Yorkshire puddings! I can't wait to go back when I return next year!

We paid in full a fortnight beforehand, and I pointed out that one of our party was a vegetarian and would like the carvery with the nut roast. This was not a problem. Sadly, it went downhill from here. Even though they already had a list of who wanted what, it took an hour for the food to arrive, and there was only about six more people in! The vegetarian was told that they had no nut roast, so they had to have something else. Even though I had told them it was our Christmas meal when paying, they were only willing to give one cracker to the person ordering the Christmas menu. None of the five people having fish & chips liked it. Soggy batter, bones and overcooked. Those having jacket potatoes were not impressed either. And whatever you do, do not order a small carvery. The large is a standard plate; the small is actually a side plate! Do not make a special trip to visit The Farmers, or a non-special trip.

Table booked for early dinner pre theatre (5.15) Saturday night. Lovely pub but just didnt deliver…read more There were veey few diners at that time as you would expect but waited 10 minutes for drinks to arrive and was almost 6pm when first course arrived. I had pork which was lovely but the dauphonoise potato and 2 springs of charred but raw brocolli were just not enough. Were then informed no fruit crumble and when asked to change custard for cream said had a problem with whipped cream but may have some pouring cream. Was very busy when we left but was not impressed as not cheap. Very disappointing meal.

I have had a bit of dilemma before writing this review as I was expecting so much and .... well…read moreread on. Look fantastic with a great and really interesting menu. Called to book a table and staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Arrived way too early with some time to kill but not a problem for the bar man who was keen to ensure that the glass of red house we ordered was what we wanted. The bar area had a very nice ambiance with some really comfy chairs that allowed us to while away our early arrival. With the wine going down nicely we ordered the Mediterranean bread to nibble on and it was delicious. Things were looking up for our first visit to this hostilely. Table for 4 was very pleasant and despite the large group with children nearby we were certainly not disturbed. Orders taken by the very jovial and helpful bar manager who interacted with the party with good humor and promptness. Then .... The beer breaded mushrooms were satisfactory and the garlic OK. It will be fine .... The main course arrived just before it got a bit silly and were all a little lackluster to be perfectly honest. Meals were just warm enough to ensure that nothing was said. Whilst the meals were presented well the taste just about lived up to expectations of the diners. Dessert, not this time thank you and after paying the bill little more than a side ways glance of a good bye. You know when you get that deflated moment when something does not quite live up to your expectations. We all felt it. I will visit again just in case this was a blimp in what was clearly a busy day for the staff but as a customer that was really not my problem. On leaving we did spot the giant chocolate eclair ......
