I'm not sure whether it was our dire dining experience in La Tasca last weekend that made last night's trip to Frankie and Benny's so much nicer than I'd anticipated or what, but no matter. Aside from a some slow service at the bar before we got seated, the whole evening was lovely.
This F&B's has seen some press interest of late as it was the place where the 'lady who told some people to be quiet during Harry Potter' had bleach thrown at her. The restaurant was busy for a Sunday night though so I don't think it's affected trade at all.
We had olives (delicious - all the more tasty after last week's La Tasca offerings!) between us, and then I had the tomato and basil soup with garlic dough balls in (mmm). Hot Steve had BBQ chicken wings, and they were tasty, tender and perfectly cooked. We may have got some funny looks for sniffing his smokey barbecue scented fingers throughout the rest of the evening but ah well, I reckon they were just jealous.
For my main I had roast beef, and Steve ordered the 8oz sirloin with tiger prawns. The lovely manageress came over and told us that she was really sorry, but they'd run out of prawns and also yorkshire puddings, would we like to order anything else instead or would we be ok with those dishes if she knocked some money off the bill? Bless. Again, unused to being consulted about these things (see La Tasca review, again), we were delighted and settled for the original dishes. And they were lovely! Massive, but tasty, with the beef and the steak both cooked juuuuust right.
We finished off with a sundae each. Sickly, gooey, and delicious. And all for under £40, thanks to some bill-shaving by the manager. I liked it, and I'm not usually a fan of restaurant chains that crop up in leisure centre complexes. How snobby of me. I shall be coming back : ) read more
