Inside a quaint yet rustic little building you will find a very similar set up to that of Arcadia: a huge selection of British ales, European beers (such as the majestic Erdinger) and a global selection of wines. As with Arcadia, you may feel that the prices are a little bit steep, but take a moment to steady yourself and remember that you are drinking real quality alcohol and supporting dying British breweries as you do it. The atmosphere is one of quiet relaxation, as the more adult selection of alcohol tends to draw in the over 30s more than the under 30s. I have never tried the food here so cannot comment, but I would recommend stopping in for at least one drink (make it an Erdinger). Even if you don't like it, at least you can tell your friends that you went for a drink in a tavern - how many people can say that nowadays?

The Town Street Tavern is dressed to impress from the outside. It is housed in a period building and it looks the business. Appearances can be deceptive so I was still holding back on my judgment. Inside it's more of the same, lovely. They are a bar and a brassiere and manage to combine style with a cozy atmosphere. So far, so good. So fill my gapping stomach with some food please. Maybe I was a little more polite than that but I went for a big bad boy of a burger with excellent home made chips and coleslaw. No grumbles from me or my stomach. This is a very pleasant pub experience and even better than that it's not far from the train station so you can stagger home safely too.

The outdoor area has a few tables out the front, next to the busy road, but it at least has somewhere to sit and sup out in this warm weather. The bar inside seems decent, and cosy for when it gets a bit more wintery, but I didn't get to see the whole of it as it was a quick pint before moving on. As for the range, it appeared there was a good selection of ale, for those who like cask, and a mixed range of other lagers and soft drinks for those who don't. Standard spirits, if memory recalls. The thing that put me off was the service. It wasn't rude, per se, but I noticed that despite having waited before several of the local bar flies, I was still last to be served. The chap was nice enough, but having worked in a bar before, I considered it good etiquette to serve in order of arrival. It was disappointing, as the rest of the experience was rather pleasant. Perhaps an off night, so as I say, a return may be in order.

It looks like a proper Yorkshire watering hole from the outside, with nothing fancy or gimmicky on show to detract from the old stonewall charms. Inside, you'll find a very pubbish-pub if you know what I mean. If you don't, I'll try and explain. Nowadays, pubs are either closing or being bought up by chains, leaving little chance for uniqueness or character. The Fleece, however, has its own distinctive charms (including a pleasing selection of real ales) and it's the sort of place that you imagine hasn't changed in half a century. Commendable.

If you'd gone in a couple of years ago on a Friday night, you would have found a bustling lively lounge full of young professionals and people who prefer to stay in Horsforth rather than venture to the town centre enjoying themselves in the company of a wide selection of booze and some nice music. Go in tonight, however, and it's likely to be a rather empty place with a flat atmosphere and some grumpy bar staff. This is partly due to the adjacent Kobe's popularity, but more to do with the fact that this dog has, unfortunately, had its day.

Well as a name goes I'm not too keen on anywhere that has to call themselves a style bar. However, I will make an exception in this case. Now let's get down to business. Booze! This is after all why I frequent the majority of places in my life. Maybe not the doctors or gym though! Well no grumbles on this front. If you want cocktails, go forth and feel the love. There are quite simply loads of them for you to work your way through. Classics such as a Bloody Mary and Daiquiris right along to the baby cocktails and creamy concoctions. Plus the price isn't going to scare you off too. Very reasonable they are but I guess that's what you get for daring to explore outside the heart of the city. Finally, the bistro serves up some good grub too so you have something to line that stomach before a night of over indulgence.

Wow. This is…read moredefinitely a place of acquired tastes, come night time, but honestly - given the lashings of fun and laughter we had in here on the Yelp Horsforth crawl, I could do nothing but sing its praises. Sing being the operative word, and you'll know what I mean by that should you read on. Horsforth. I'm getting to be really fond of the place. Or, perhaps it was the company, as we traversed the various Town Streets seeking out decent sips. We tried six or seven pubs on this one crawl, and ended the night here, which is probably the wisest move if you're drinking weekend-style in this wee town. Let's mark it up. Atmosphere. Bags of it. Designer and slightly plastic bags of it. The range of folks making up the Friday night crowd varied wildly in age range, but not in style - the ladies and gents here brought their a-game in tan, make up, and hair spray. And were all entirely jolly, rowdy as you like, and determined to make an impression on the karaoke. That's right. Friday is karaoke night. Being latecomers, we didn't get a look in! (And I'm told the chap was rather brusque in denying us a sing. Meh.) However, nothing quite beats an evening of silky serenade from a silver fox, doing his very best Elvis, or some cheeky ladies banging out a Cyndi Lauper. Girls just wanna have fun, right? Drinks. Standard choices. Which is fine when you're in Horsforth, as bar the TST you'll not be getting much in the way of specialist boozes, so far as we could tell from the places we tried. (There are at least six more to investigate, so there's hope yet.) Prices are fine alongside it, and it's large, warm, and fairly friendly. So friendly, one of our crew made a new pal - albeit a pal whose cider was, unbeknownst to him, unfortunately leaking onto his crotch. This mattered not! On a sunny evening in Horsforth, when the company is a likely lot whose banter is as forthcoming as the karaoke in the Kings, this is the spot you should find yourself. Being tipsy is required first, and being drunk by the end almost mandatory - but even for Saturday's pain, I wouldn't have done things any differently.

I'd heard on good authority (a fellow Yelper, naturally) that the burgers here were well worth a punt, and being as I'm on a sort of unofficial best burger hunt, it had to be done. Should you feel flash, they also do a chateaubriand - but that's fifty squids, so quite a lot to drop when it's not Blackhouse. Friday was, if you recall, incredibly warm, and so this was the perfect place to indulge in some summer sun - the outdoor garden has quite a few tables, and there are some covered tables, should the rains have come. Being as I'd yet to have my tea, I didn't take advantage of the boozes here. I did discover an incredible mocktail menu, however, and can highly recommend the Very Berry - it's an awesome mix of raspberry, cranberry, mint, apple and other bits, that make up both a healthy and delicious smoothie. The staff were all really helpful, especially the girls that served me, both when ordering the mocktail and my burger. I wanted to check out extras on the burger, and if I could have it served rare, amongst other details and both girls were really great with all my questions. Fantastic. The décor is fine, and in keeping with their other bars dotted about Leeds, although to my mind could probably do with an update. You know you're in an Arc bar when you go in, so there's that, but it is rather dark inside and I suppose feels a bit dated? I can't put my finger on it, but the black leather, dark floors, and varnished wood aren't my favourite. But, perhaps that's a minor detail when everything else seemed to be quality. The burger comes on a wooden chopping board, and the chips in a little mini metal chip pan, as seems to be the fashion. I do like the little pot of salsa though, which was really tasty. I opted for the Indonesian burger, and whilst it wasn't rare in the American sense, it was definitely juicy - thank goodness for a nicely cooked burger. Who wants dry meat? (Apparently lots of folk, as the waitress mentioned several people send them back to be cooked for longer - if you're one of those culprits, try it wet. I promise, it's better.) I couldn't taste the peanut satay creme fraiche very well, but the rest of the acoutrements that accompanied the burger were fabulous, and the bun was a perfect brioche bun. It's not the biggest you'll see in your life, but it's definitely decent so these guys make the list. I was very happy! In summary: I much prefer this place to the Headingley counterparts, and their burgers are damned good. The mocktail list is great, and give non-boozers something a little extra special to sup, so all in all I'm a fan.

By far the trendiest business to every grace New Road Side, Kobe takes its name from the area of Japan where the farmers treat the cows like gods. Seriously. If you haven't read about this, get on Wikipedia now and look up Kobe beef, it's ridiculous; they give cows beer and massages! Kobe (the club) uses Kobe (the beef) for one thing on it's simple, grill menu, the Kobe Burger. Now, this is no ordinary burger- indeed, it costs around £17 (which would probably get you about 8 Big Macs) but then again this is the poshest beef in the world. Despite my love of beef and burgers, I could not justify the price, so went for the rump steak and cheese sandwich, which was top drawer. The service was pleasant and fast, and, while the prices are definitely on the expensive side, the quality you get makes up for this. Kobe by night is a similarly expensive but luxury experience, with the decor and upmarket drinks making you feel as special as those Japanese cows must do.
