Their pricing is very reasonable, especially for the quality of cut and experience. I booked a specialty cut with Jaryd but it seems like the entire crew are very skilled and super chill. Their location is pretty convenient and I had no trouble with street parking nearby. The shop itself is small with wood floors and paneling which gives it a warm and intimate vibe. The conversation between the crew and customers feels like a friends and family hangout. I got to know Jaryd pretty well and really enjoyed our chat. As for the cut itself, I couldn't be happier. I was looking for a transformation and Jaryd delivered! I have significant recession in my hairline which makes my hair tricky to work with and I'm not generally thrilled with my haircuts, so I put this one off for years and came in with hair past my shoulders. I told Jaryd I was looking for a textured fringe which was no problem for him. He shaped my beard as well which really added to the overall look. Clean shop with a slight balm of a gentleman's talc set to a good atmosphere with a modern kinda vibe. Some cool lookin' rustic tools of the trade on display, along with tasteful homages to the ones who paved the way for these professionals to do their business of keepin' certain heathens like myself somewhat civilized. This review is weeks overdue now. My son (12) has had long hair for years, much to the annoyance of his father, and decided he wanted to cut it. So as a surprise for hubs while he was out of town, I called to see if Frank could fit us in same day. He offered to have us come in right at closing (5pm) to accommodate our school/work schedule, and stay late for us. Ok, 5 stars for bring awesome right there. But wait, it gets better. So we arrive, he sits my son down and talks to him for at least 15-20 minutes before he began the cut. He really wanted my son to understand why the cut he had in mind (still long, just shorter) wouldn't work with someone who had SO MUCH HAIR, and would he be willing to go shorter...proceeds to list out reasons and show examples of this cut on his phone to my kid. He talks to, jokes with, and generally entertains my son for the next 20 minutes while he cuts his hair. In the end, my kid is so happy he finally cut his hair and wondered what he was worried about and why it took so long! Great shop. My biggest regret is not coming here sooner. Aesthetics wise, you see old-school (turn of last century) chairs that were used for decades to take care of folks. The metal mechanical chairs work just as splendidly as they did then, although the leather strap for sharpening the razor is for show only now. (Hygiene standards change over time!) There is a place or two to sit, but not enough for a crowd, maybe a friend or two. Don't be afraid to ask the barber(s) for a music change if it isn't to your liking - we all have preferences and can sometimes forget it is running in the background. I learned something about my own head/hair/cowlick that I never knew before coming to this shop from the nice barber, Jordan. Apparently, I need to comb my hair just a little bit different in the back. We ended up having a long conversation about the changes in the state of the world, how his life was growing up, etc. He's getting married later this year. I can probably get my haircut anywhere with someone competent (he's *way* more than competent), but I really appreciated his story and background. I prefer real folks, and he's definitely real. Overall, great experience, my beard and hair look good, price wasn't *too* bad (with a very decent tip) for that. Take a chance, you'll probably be happy. I think I'll be back. read more

I've been cutting my hair for the past 16 months or so, so I figured I'd treat myself and get a nice haircut while I was out visiting the west coast and damn do I have zero regrets (except that it's too expensive for me to fly back out for Easy to cut my hair monthly). After months of Covid-19 shutdown DIY hair bleaching, coloring and cutting, I really wanted some one who was comfortable with clippers to even out the back, take off the dry ends and still provide some kind of style. The essentials of what a barbershop experience should be. You walk in and the aesthetic features of the shop blended a style of vintage and minimalist in such a tasteful way. Jaryd greeted me and let me know Jon was on his lunch hr, which was fine I left early to make sure I could find parking and respect my appointment time. It ended up being very easy so I was early. This was my first time here and Jon took the time to hear out what I wanted. I let him know of my previous experiences of walking into a place trying to convey what I wanted and walking out with a cookie cutter side part that cost 50 bucks with tip. I had found another barber but the prices kept being raised. Jon's delivery was nothing short of the word of mouth expectations I had. It's no wonder the recommendation was given with confidence that I wouldn't be disappointed. The banter happened to be enlightening everyone was respectful of each other's opinions and just having a conversation that is stimulating these days was an added bonus. Back to the haircut. I showed Jon a couple of pictures of what I was looking for and left the rest to creative discretion. With the end results I had to hit that 25% on the tip because Jon literally took his job to an artisan level. He understood my hair texture and everything, even the styling product he used complemented the style. Having pride in what you do is an understatement here and I am thankful because I had an interview an hr after the cut (I got the job offer too!!) and the confidence I had walking in I partly attribute to my cut. Which was crispy considering that I walked in looking like a Filipino chia pet. The shadow fade was perfect, the texturing, and managing of my stubborn as hell cow lick was on point. On a side note I noticed the portraits on the wall of vintage servicemen and asked about them. Jon let me know that they were of Jayrd's grandparents which the shop is named after. The 3% Barber Shop. (3% of proceeds go back into the city alameda) I've always struggled to find a good reliable barber, so I've bounced around the east bay quite a lot. I was on my way to pick up my son from school looking super bad because my "barber" had been MIA for a while. I drove by this small shop in alameda that caught my attention with the words "Frank Logan is a 3% Barber Shop" on the window. With about an hour to spare I decided to walk in to learn more about this shop, with no hesitation I'm promptly greeted by a big man with a beard named Jaryd. He was bald so I was definitely hesitant, but my hair was a lot worse than the fear I had of letting someone new cut my hair. He told me how he's normally super booked but to my surprise and my luck HIS APPOINTMENT CANCELED! - I swear I heard an Angel's harp in the background when he said that - I sat in the chair and to really see his skill I let him take the wheel. "Surprise me, I'm open to anything besides this" I said. He smiled, and with the upmost confidence he said "I got you." He then quoted me 30 min, and almost to the dot I was done in 29 min (yes I counted lol). He gave me one of the smoothest fades I've ever had on the side and a scissor length on top and I could not have been happier.
