After over 20 years as a patient at Appalachian Eye Care and trusting them with my entire family of…read more12, this experience was unacceptable. My contact lens order was missed and I waited 6 weeks with no communication. When I finally called, I was told they had dropped the ball, yet there was still no follow up. Calling again over 2 weeks later, while wearing contacts that were no longer usable, I was met with rude, dismissive, and argumentative behavior. Instead of resolving the issue, I was repeatedly told the lenses were on backorder, contradicting what I had already been told. It then became unnecessarily difficult to obtain my own prescription. When I finally received it, the numbers were significantly different from my previous exam less than a year before, raising serious concerns about its accuracy and leaving me unable to confidently order expensive custom lenses. It has now been over two months and I still have no contacts and no trusted prescription. After two decades of loyalty and even purchasing a separate coverage through VSP Vision Care just to remain with this practice, because we love Dr. Lane, The lack of accountability, poor communication, and unprofessional treatment is unacceptable. Losing 12 long term patients may not matter, but experiences like this will matter over time. It is imperative to have good staff so your business doesn't suffer.

I saw a new doctor and a student doctor. I told them I was keeping headaches and migraines. I hated…read moremy contacts and my eyes were dry and irritated. The doctor told me to try a sample and if I didn't like them I could try another kind before I ordered a 6 month supply of contacts. I soon realized i was leaving for vacation and didn't have enough contacts. I messaged the office and asked if I could have a sample pack to get me through vacation and hopefully my eyes liked this kind and I could order them. They said no i could not get a sample unless I agreed to pay for a year supply of contacts. All they care about is the money. They could care less that I was keeping headaches from the contacts or that my eyes would drain with pus from the solution. The office manager needs to look at what the front office people are telling patients. I asked for my prescription and it took forever to get it because they didn't want me going somewhere else. I've been a patient for over 15 years and so has my kids. We are not going back.

I had been to Dr. Taylor many time over the past 18 years. Last Year, 2023, I went to another…read moreoptician for my exam because i was really needing an eye exam and the other gave me an appointment more than a month sooner. Let's start with the other place...their exam was way more thorough than the one I get from Taylor. Three different exam rooms, more questions. The glasses were made and delivered in 5 days. The exam from Taylor took every bit of 15 minutes, with antiquated equipment. But the dr was friendly as was the gentleman handling the eyeglasses dept. I chose a couple of pair of glasses to test and was told that the office couldn't find my insurance company for the purchase...I'm on medicare which grants me one exam a year and $400 toward glasses or contacts. He told me that the exam had been free with no copay but I'd have to find out, in my policy, the glasses company that my particular Medicare policy used, as they couldn't find it. And all I had to do was come back in with that company's name and my given amount covered for them. So, on Monday, I did that...went in with the company's name and phone number. The thing in the office barely looked at the paper and said they didn't work with that company. I told her that I had used it for several years and was covered for $400. She left the office in a huff and came back with my chart, announced to everyone that they did not use that company (they were listed in the network), and that even my exam wasn't completely covered...that I owed them $66! I, totally upset by then, told her I did not have to pay a dime for the exam and that the man in the glasses dept had told me that the exam had been covered with $0 copay. She then said, in a snippity way for the others waiting to hear, "No, you owe $66!".l looked her straight in the eye and told her to bill me..I wasn't paying it since I DID NOT have it nor did I owe it,,and walked out. I will never be back. I hope the patients in the waiting room took note. I now have another problem...My Medicare grants me one vision exam a year and since I'm sure that exam has been billed, I have to wait another year for one somewhere else. She wouldn't even give me my prescription!! I'll probably be blind as a bat by then but I will never go back there!! I wonder if that $66 would have gone straight into her pocket!! Not afraid to post my name...Deborah Wimmer in Bluefield, VA
