Alex gets a Gold Star from me... or in this case 5 stars. Here are the facts: I called a few garage door business' from the Yelp list that came up from the Santa Rosa list. I wanted to get a feel for what the cost would be for my repairs. One company came out to give me a bid. Then I called Alex Franco to see what he would charge. Work needed: Replacement of two openers and service both garage doors. One of the doors was real heavy and needing adjustment.! The company that came out to bid my job said I had the wrong springs and they needed to be replaced. Then we discussed the type of opener I wanted. (I saw a belt driven opener at a friends house years ago and was impressed with how quiet it was so this is what I wanted installed on both doors.) The guy said to me that a chain driven opener is just as quiet AND $100 cheaper! The cost from the bid: 2 chain driven openers = $450.00 each and a set of springs = $450.00. Total cost = $1,350.00 If I opted for the belt driven openers the bid would have been $1,550.00. Alex Franco...I told Alex about the spring replacement recommended by the first guys so I'd get an apples to apples bid. Over the phone he bid the job this way: Two "Belt driven openers"..... $395 each and a set of springs(the same springs) = $185.00. Alex said he'd throw in the combination pad (mounted next to the garage doors) for free. He showed up on time with both openers and a set of springs to install. When he was finished,I came back to the garage to see the completed work and noticed the springs were still on the floor of my garage. He said I didn't need the new springs. The original ones were good and in fact better quality and more appropriate for my door and only needed to be turned one more time around! So they only needed to be adjusted NOT REPLACED! His honesty paid off for me. He could have went along with the story that the original guys were trying to sell me; that a new set of springs were necessary. But he didn't! So the bottom line is that the job only cost me $855. There was an extra $65 charge for the adjustments. Alex saved me $495. or $695 if the other bid included the more expensive belt driven openers that Alex installed! LiftMaster is the manufacturer of all the openers discussed here.... read more

I called Franco's number at around 2:30pm because our garage door was failing to open. He called me back immediately and said he would get someone to me within about an hour. True to his word, he called me back an hour later and said that his technician would be at the door in a few minutes. David showed up as expected and efficiently diagnosed the problem, a failed spring, then fixed it immediately in about 45 minutes. David also lubed the door, which now closes much more quietly. My 22 yr. old garage door opener died over the weekend. I called Alex Franco first thing Monday morning and he came out within an hour to discuss my needs. He gave me a very reasonable quote which included a new Liftmaster belt-drive opener and some badly needed maintenance on the door and tracks. He said he would be back the next day, Tuesday, between 9 and 10am. At 9:20 am Tuesday Alex arrived, installed the opener, and replaced a section of track. A little over an hour later he was done. My door broke (spring) at about 1 this afternoon, found Franco Garage Doors to have the best rating on Yelp and called. Alex answered right away, said he could come out by 4, But I had to get to a meeting by 4. I explained it was just a broken spring but the door is 20+ years old. So he said he could get here in 20 minutes and check it. 20 minutes later he was here and after quoting a price started immediately. Experience counts. He finished the job in less than 30 minutes lubed up all moving parts and even left a partial can of the correct lubricant (white lithium) too keep it running smoothly. I watched a couple of youtube videos showing this operation and it is pretty dangerous unless you know what you are doing. I was amazed how quickly Franco and his assistant replaced 2 springs. My old garage door motor worked perfectly with my car. I will say that the owner did come out to try and make my car sync with the garage door but it did not work. I ended up buying a portable door opener to put in my car. Rather disappointing. I'm not sure I can recommend them. read more

Looked at the door and said he would look for parts and call me back. 2 weeks later I called him to get an update. He seemed to have no idea who I was and couldn't remember the job. I am sorry, I don't like to give a negative review. But, I want to help others who rely on reviews of others to decide on who they want to trust to bring into their home to do repairs. I reviewed a lot of Garage Door companies before calling Franco's. They had a lot of reviews mostly good, But some bad. The other companies recommended to me on Nextdoor web site, had very few reviews. I called about 4 other companies recommended on Cloverdale's Nextdoor web site, and all had the call go to voice message, which had full mailboxes. I could not even leave a message with any of them. But, Franco's Garage Doors, called right back from caller ID, so I decided to give them a try. The guy from Franco's, could not even speak or understand English with any clarity. That should have been a clue right there! But, they were already in Cloverdale on a job, and were sending a guy over in an hour to check it out. He sent out a guy who could not find the problem. He was talking about the Springs may be off balance and they would have to add more springs. He tried telling me our Garage Door opener was a bad opener, and could be the issue. But, he really had no clue! He called his boss and spoke to him in Spanish, so I could not understand anything they said. He said his boss would come back out at 12:45 to see if he could find the problem. (We had a classic truck with no engine we are restoring, in the way of getting a ladder to the garage door motor). I told him we would have the truck moved by then. We waited around for a couple more hours, to a no show. I called the owner back around 3pm. He said I was suppose to call them once we moved the truck??? I had a 12:45 appointment. Why would I need to call them? He said they were back in Santa Rosa now and could not come back until the next day. I told them no! I will call someone else. Communication is a huge issue with the owner and he sent out a tech, that clearly was not qualified to diagnose the issue! So, I called another company and they set up a 9 am appointment for today. The two, very competent, English speaking, Garage Door Techs showed up 15 minutes early. By 9 am they had the problem fixed! Garage door is working like new! It turned out to be just a programing issue with the garage door opener! They suspect from power outages we seem to get a lot of here! Simple fix. I am sorry, I can not recommend Franco's :-( read more

Alex, the owner came out to my house immediately. I told him what I had done to "adjust" my opener and said that I was pretty sure that I burned out the motor. I have done some repairs to garage door openers in the past, and thought that I would give it a shot. He said that a new opener would cost me about $500. If it was just the control board that was shorted, it would just be a couple of hundred dollars. After opening it up, he said that he could do a the repair for $140 (No Fountaingrove Surcharge!). He already knew that I was convinced that I needed a new opener and could have charged me a lot. Instead he proved his honesty by charging me much less that I was prepared to pay! Nice guy. Started out a bit rocky because I set up the appointment one week ahead of the scheduled date and he lost the paperwork with my name, phone #, and address. So at the agreed upon time of his arrival he was a no show. Of course, I didn't hear from him because he lost my info so after about 1 hour I called him to find out where he was and bingo we got the appointment back on track. He arrived shortly after and put up a new door opener (that I ordered online) and he did a really nice job. Fast and efficient. He took away the old one and cleaned up. The guy (Alex Franco, The owner) was the most courteous first hand on the phone, understood my concern, and less than a second he trouble shot my garage door problem that gave me a "ah-ha!" moment. I called Friday after 4 pm, and he came Saturday afternoon with "no additional weekend charge." When he showed up he explained to me with easy language, besides that, his work was clean and fast. Though he showed up 20 minutes late for the appointed time but he was gone less than 30 minutes or so. Since my garage problem was a broken spring, and he gave me an estimate over the phone and he was an honest working man, there was no surprises on the bill we receive from him.
