The restaurant itself is small and homey. Our server was a really nice lady that spoke English pretty well and helped to translate the menu. I really liked the mixed seafood appetizer platter with slices of fish, seafood salad, and some kind of fried ball. There was also a bowl of mussels that came separately with it. My main was a fried swordfish dish on a bed of cabbage and topped with cheese. I normally associate swordfish as thick and meaty but the fish was surprisingly light. We were given some kind of free wine to go with our desserts of cannolli and ricotta cake. If you like cannoli, they have a good one that you can fill yourself with a bowl of more than enough ricotta filling topped with chocolate chips. My colleague and I also got roses at the end of our meal.

The veal was so incredibly tender and the risotto was in a delicious creamy sauce which I had never had with risotto before. Tagliolini con Porcini (€18) - Very solid quality pasta with truffle and mushrooms. Cannoli (€8) - A very interesting deconstructed cannoli. Unique presentation with yummy ingredients. Panna Cotta (€8) - A tasty classic. The staff were all super friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a pretty big seating area and while it was empty when we arrived around 7:15pm, it definitely filled up later in the night. Overall, highly recommend La Vecchia Lira to anyone looking for top notch Milanese food in Milan.

Food was salty and just not to my taste. My boyfriend said he thinks it's because we have this Americanized expectation for pasta. Which is true. I guess that's me being uncultured. Heh. Came here because it had great reviews on Facebook and limited but good reviews on yelp. Service was really good here. She was so patient with us. Explained everything on the menu cause we obviously weren't from around here. Best part of the night: we struggled with ordering dessert because we didn't want cannoli or the other famous Sicilian dessert. So I tried to order a basic sorbet dessert and she said "no." LOL so we ordered a typical Sicilian dessert. I loved her. If you are knowledgable of Sicilian food I recommend this place! If not, and you're like me ... Pass on this place.

The restaurant offered us this complimentary warm fried cheese dish that was very good. We also had their house red-wine, which was pretty good; mild, but slightly dry. Definitely get the osso-bucco. I got the steak w mustard sauce. I felt it was good but not exceptionally good as it seemed to be described. I was told the mustard sauce was very special. It could be a difference in palette. The mushroom pasta was very good. We had tiramisu as the dessert and it was one of the better tasting ones. Overall, I really enjoyed the dining experience and would recommend for traditional cuisine.
