"I'm the owner, and I don't give a f*."** I don't usually write Yelp reviews - I had to create an account just to post this. I don't like hurting a business over one bad experience, and maybe that's all this was - but wow! I left Framing Depot without a birthday gift for my husband and feeling completely disrespected. I wasn't treated right - plain and simple. I've used Framing Depot before and had good results, so this came out of nowhere. I placed an order ahead of my husband's birthday. On the Saturday before (they're closed Sundays), I called to confirm pickup. I gave my last name, was asked to repeat it a few times - my name is tricky and perhaps the line was bad. Then I was told - with clear irritation - "Can you just spell it?" I replied, "Sure. You just had to ask." No doubt I was a bit annoyed with his tone. When I arrived, the mat colour was wrong. The owner pointed to the paperwork and insisted it matched the order. I hadn't filled it out the paperwork, and said as much. Instead of owning the mistake, he kept pointing to the paperwork, so I firmly reminded him I hadn't filled it out - I didn't work there. Once he finally acknowledged the error, he offered to fix it - but not until Monday, the day of the birthday, which didn't work for me. He told me I had an attitude - and that I'd had it long before I arrived - referencing the earlier phone call where I'd said, "You just have to ask" when asked to spell my name. He said, " I was there, he did ask!" It became clear I was dealing with someone who was already angry with me. I said I'd come back to speak to someone else, as the interaction was going sideways. He repeated that I had an "attitude," again citing the call. I reiterated I'd be leaving and would speak with someone else. Then, out of nowhere, he said, "You're not getting a discount." I hadn't asked for one though, frankly, it would've been appropriate given the error and how I was being spoken to. He repeated that I had a bad attitude, told me he was the owner, and said, "I don't give a f***." His words. I responded, "Clearly." He seemed visibly charged and completely unaware of how he was coming across. I wasn't scared, but it did occur to me that I was alone in a store with a man twice my size who was being irrational. I admit I had a bit of tone on the phone - in response to someone being irritated with me. But even if I concede I had an attitude, does that really warrant this kind of response? "I'm the owner and I don't give a f***"? I told him I wouldn't be taking or paying for the frame. He was in agreement with not continuing to do business with one another. He then tried to break it in front of me and managed to crack it. I left empty-handed and rattled. An aggressive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable behaviour from someone running a customer-facing business. But as he said -- he didn't give a f***. read more

I am sad to have to write this review. I needed two pieces of replacement glass for some frames and contaced The Framing Depot through their website with the size of the glass needed. I was hoping to save an extra trip to the store and just go once to pick up the glass. I even confirmed with an employee that they indeed received the message and she said her manager would be contacting me. No response. I try again. No Response. Does The Framing Depot really not want my business? Did I offend them by using their website ... which is the point of a website. read more

Recommend by a good friend. I took a piece to have the glass replaced. I was told it would take 1 week, possibly sooner. When i went to pick it up, they had lost the order, spent 15 minutes searching for it and finally found it in the production room. No paperwork attached. Very disorganized. The front people don't know what is going on in the back. I definitely will not be bringing the other items i need framing to this place Very disappointing!! read more

Quality framing is extremely expensive and I used to buy my frames from Viktor Gallery and get the matting cut at DuSerres and assemble everything myself. But Viktor Gallery's service is getting worse and they have increased their prices, so I decided to pay more to get it done all at one place after hearing all the positive reviews here. I was impressed with the level of service and knowledge. They were great at recommending the selection of matting based on the image being framed and the choice of frame. The matting is acid-free and I had the option of going with UV glass and/or anti-reflective glass to best protect and display the artwork. The store is very impressive. They literally have hundreds of different types of frames to choose from, including shadow boxes and frames for sports jerseys and any type of artifact you want to display. There was a cool photography exhibition on covering the entire side of the wall of the store when I was there. The staff required much less directions than I was expected to give them as they are framing experts and I was impressed with the final product. I had two large prints framed along with a double-matted image on one frame done and the frames really made the prints look its best. All of the frames come wired and ready to hang and I didn't see any dust or particles between the glass and mat/image which could be annoying to see. It's worth the trek uptown. read more

I am an artist and there is no other place that I would take my work to get framed. The Framing Depot not only has great selection of frames and glass, but they are also very budget-conscious, and will work with you to provide the perfect framing solution no matter your budget. Their prices are comparable with buying frames at Michael's etc, but here you know that the materials they are using are archival quality and that this is a professional frame job that will protect your artwork, and last. I have had very few issues with any of the work I have had framed, and the few times I have had a concern (I got home once and noticed a small crack in one frame, another time there was a mat issue), they rectified the problem immediately and free of charge, no questions asked. The studio is bright and airy, and always very clean. Because I primarily have pastels framed, I always worry they will get smudged or damaged, and that is never a worry here. While they are often busy, the customer service that you receive at The Framing Depot from all the staff is exceptional. A few months ago, I was dealing with a difficult client that changed her mind and wanted something corrected on a painting after I had sent it out for framing. I was incredibly distressed about having to go back to open the portrait back up, take it home, correct the issue, and bring it back to get it re-framed (and eat all that cost). I called Steve, the owner, and he was so accommodating. They set up an area in the back, opened up the frame up for me. I came in with my materials and worked on the piece for half an hour, and then they framed it back up. I in no way expected to be accommodated like this, and it saved me lots of stress, money, and additional trips back and forth (I don't live super close to here). Steve has also worked with me to help design some floating frames for my pastels, where the paper doesn't touch the front of the glass. Had 3 canvases framed here. The price I was quoted was cheaper than anywhere downtown Toronto. They also have a good selection of frames. I was able to pick up my canvases the same day. I'm taking 1 star off because I feel that the customer service could be improved. If you drop in, be prepared to wait a while for service. I felt like the staff were rushed and didn't really take the time to explain options well. I recommend doing your research before you go. read more

The Framing Depot is a cavernous studio. It's kinda like Area 51 and I think they even have a section called that! There's no one to greet customers as they walk in. You might have to wander into the belly of the beast to catch someone's attention. Steve, the owner, is a successful entrepreneur and is all business. He checked his watch before he started speaking with me and said that we had only 20 mins to speak before closing. I had gone to get estimates with blueprints of the pieces that I wanted framed. I hadn't yet received delivery of my items. Steve quickly helped me sort through the options, giving me pros and cons of each. He was very matter of fact and didn't push me towards any particular style or brand. I did get sticker shock at the final price. Based on the Yelp reviews I was expecting something much cheaper. However, I acknowledge that my pieces were all quite large and made out of material that needed careful mounting. When I returned to drop off my items, I made sure I had budgeted enough time to get to the store in time lest Steve turn me away. As luck would've had it, there was a major accident en route. Steve kindly agreed to keep the store open so I could drop things off. Thankfully I made it just in the nick of time before closing. I am very happy with the final product. read more

I took a very large canvas into their store to be framed. They did an excellent job! When I was leaving I realized that the canvas would not fit in the car, so they dropped it off for me. Great service and much more affordable compared to other places. read more

I sent them all my requirements, wood white frame, glass, and hanging wire and called them in advance and picked it up in a 20 mins timeframe. The owner is rude (Steve) and has no customer service skills. We have taken several things there over the years and he has always been rude. We had one issue that required a small fix and was told to take my business elsewhere if I didn't like the work as is. I've spent over 1500.00 in the past using this company and find it super disrespectful way to handle a minor concern. Great work at very reasonable prices. This is an understandably popular place, so we were happy to wait a week and a bit for the framing. I got a call a few days before, asking if we could wait a few more days because they were running a it behind. When we went to pick it up on the agreed day, it still wasn't done, and they were extremely apologetic. The result? Our artwork was couriered free of charge to our building, the very next day. Wow. Found this place last night as I was looking for somewhere to get a large (11 x 14") photo framed. I had been struggling with the colour of the frame I needed and had looked at stock frames at other stores and none of them were suitable. Within minutes they recommended a great frame and matting. It looks absolutely gorgeous and I couldn't be happier. And it was done in 20 minutes. I could have waited but had a few errands and when I returned, there it was. I had a couple of giant posters that I needed framed and took it to The Framing Depot after reading reviews on here. Steve, the owner sent me a quote via email after I sent him the dimensions only a few hours after I'd sent my email. I got the posters framed with a basic black frame for $110 each which was a great deal because they were HUGE! I think they would've been around $300 elsewhere. Steve was very nice, polite, and professional. My boyfriend and I went for lunch for 45 minutes and by the time we were back everything was done! I would definitely recommend coming here.
