Even the reliable chain Spoons deli cafe closed down at Garden City after about a year. There just didn't seem to be the right market for a gourmet deli in outer southern suburbia. Plenty Continental Deli has proven everyone wrong. I've been going to this deli now for the past two years, admittedly at first in an effort to help a new foodie business, but as their business grew it genuinely became an excellent purveyor of delicious foods. The business owners are both knowledgeable and adventurous with their stock and carry a huge range of olives, cheeses, salamis and ice creams. They're not scared to experiment either. Last year, they started selling gelati in cups but replaced it a few months later with a bakery section. These days, they've extended their bakery section to include Roman baked goods out the front of their shop on weekends. This is also a great place to go if you want to put together a food hamper for a gift. There are some excellent Turkish delights, chocolates, mixed nuts, oils and dressings. Service can be a little slow at times, especially if you get stuck behind a customer wanting different types of meats and antipasto. It's great if you're happy to browse but it can get frustrating if you're in a rush.

Many times I've just gone to Plenty for inspiration and ideas on what to make for dinner. It's hard to walk out of there with only one thing though. I came here for a coffee and cake, with no real intention of staying for long. I exchanged 'hellos' with the lovely ladies who work there and sat down. It is a cosy little cafe filled with warm hues of brown and modern pieces of furniture. I loved it. It felt inviting and relaxing to just sit there, enjoy a coffee and read a book. As I mentioned, I had no intention of staying too long, but luckily, I carry a book with me, so when the mood strikes, as it did then, I indulged in some reading to compliment my coffee and cake. What an enjoyable afternoon that was. The waitstaff were very nice and had great customer service skills. They are a good balance of chatty and professional. There was no rush of getting me out the door, I felt safe and they didn't seem to mind one bit. As I sipped the last of my second coffee, I realised almost an hour has gone by. It's been a while since I've sat in a cafe reading and I'm glad to report, this cafe makes for a good place to get back into it.

The ladies behind the counter give great customer service and have always been helpful. I have to travel around 45 mins to an hour but it's definately worth the drive! The meats are top quality and fresh as well. Where you can buy a massive mango for $2.99 (not on special) at regular fruit shops, they sell the same looking massive mangoes at $3.99 and it's on special. Do you get what I mean? But shopping here does have its perks. First of all, it is a store stocked full of high quality deli produce. Fresh fruits and vegetables as well as many items imported from Europe, mainly Italy. They have my favourite crisped baked pita bread crackers with parma cheese infused into it. It's delish with fresh dips! Or if you feel like shortbread, there are some hand-made short bread made in Wendy's kitchen available for a handsome sum of $7.99 a bag. It is a small bag with about 5 shortbreads, pretty exy me thinks! But the taste is amazing. These gorgeous shortbreads literally melt in your mouth. Other great food they have include; a variety of expensive cheeses, deli meats, sealed fresh quiches, pizza's and tuna mornay, a selection of imported biscuits, freshly made yogurts, premium olive oils and plenty more. I'm of course biased t wards the Swiss raw milk cheese available there but there are many other brilliant options from local goats milk cheese to English cloth bound cheddar. There's also a The Source store as part of the concept and a bakery is also on the map.

The weekend markets just shunt off old supermarket stock, and the local butcher... well, I was better off with the supermarket. Cruising along Montague I stumbled The Stores. There's a bar/restaurant at the entrance, and once inside you're greeted with a deli, fruit shop, butcher, dedicated cheese room, an organic whole foods store, and soon there will be a bakery too. I have to say it plainly. All the fruit and vege I've had has been sensational. If it's local, it will tell you where it's from. The butchers are Schulte's in the Lockyer Valley (yay, award winning butcher!) Basically, if you're near West End and you're after fruit, veg and meat, The Stores is for you.

(Oh and there might be a cucumber or carrot someone in there.) Rock'n'Roll Market Place is a really fun place to shop if wanting to treat yourself to some nice, fancy foods, but not great if all you want to do is get your basics for a reasonable price. The fruit and veg there is a bit too pricey for me, but the quality is good and all the food is displayed well. Staff are extremely friendly, making this a pleasant place to shop and with a baker and butcher either side, it's conveniently placed. I would say it's a good place to shop for a weekend treat or special picnic.

I get food or coffee from here almost every weekend and they unlike other places consistently put out awesome coffee and great food. I don't normally review unless its because the place is bad but these guys are well over due for a 5 star rating from me. On the very very odd occasion i have been disappointed but i have the cafe to replace or fix anything i wasn't happy with. All i can say is if you love your coffee as much as i do these guys are worth stopping past for. Also, they have outdoor or in doors which i really love having a choice of. The menu is quite similar to most modern cafes, offering a range of sandwiches/burgers/wraps, as well as pizzas, pastas and salads. I recommend the Smoked Salmon pizza, an alternate take on the gourmet pizza, or the fried calamari, some of the freshest I have tasted in Brisbane. Prices range from $15-$25 for a main meal. The coffee has always been good. As experienced coffee drinkers understand, it's always handy knowing where you can find a good coffee. The baristas at Caffe Primavera certainly make a great coffee, using Merlo as their supplier. Always a good temperature, and never burnt; exactly what you want out of a coffee.
