Aggressive and racist owners! Shocking true colours when criticised.
I love to support family business and have gone here a few times for that reason. The food is homemade style, nice but nothing special, I like the friendly family service I have experienced and that's the main attraction. Until now! I have never seen such unprofessional service, aggression and racism not to mention how quickly it spiralled to that. We went for a German hot breakfast and it was cold as soon as it arrived, too cold, all 3 plates. My friend got Halloumi on toast with poached egg, the Halloumi was stiff, dry and cold, eggs cold too, she took hers back straight away to advise but didn't want to reheat or reorder as never trust doing that. I have a toddler and usually eat my food cold so kept mine and the guys were too hungry to bother. In the end we didn't eat it all as not very nice. Whilst it was all disappointing we ate some of it so only asked for a refund for the dish that was taken back on arrival. It was refused strongly without apology or question. The male owner instantly got angry at the accusation and then the cook came out aggressively saying there is no way it could be cold. The anger was intense, we were being calm but said not good customer service to be so rude and we will pay but won't be coming back due to the service. The male owner stepped in to my friends then my face saying he didn't want us back, I told him no need for aggression, his wife said "That's not aggressive yet" like a threat that it will be soon. My partner had finished paying. I said to the women there is a lovely German restaurant in Graceville that we will go back to for our German breakfast from now on. She said "You're German get out, I'll remember your face get out" and then the man started to tell me if I'm German to leave. I said I'm not German but going and he said "You must be a Russian! Get out" I kept walking but told him that's racist. He became more aggressive and followed me loudly repeating a few times "You Russian! Get out!" It was scary and very confusing since we didn't raise our voice, put up a fight for a refund and paid in full. I was shocked as previously they seemed so sweet and nice. I feel there is no place for this anger or racism and hope people avoid this place and not be fooled like I was to support a 'nice' family in their small business. True colours when criticised. Not that it matters but to paint the picture, I'm not German or Russian, just a plain Australian small obviously pregnant woman. If they don't like Germans they shouldn't advertise and make money off their food. If you want a hot delicious German breakfast go to Cafe Beesting in Graceville. Always great service there! read more
