Foxy Johns is a no-frills bar in Dingle, County Kerry. It's not just a bar, but a bar and hardware store - interesting concept. This is a place locals hang out. We talked to some folks around the bar, and John wasn't in. When he heard Americans at his bar, he came to see us on his off day. They have a nice selection of beer and liquor. John taught me about Green Spot, a very good Irish Whiskey that is very reasonably priced. We had a lot of fun talking to people, meeting Foxy John, and sitting in their beer garden around the back of the bar.

This review is far overdue as it's been months since we visited, but I can't say enough about the folks at Foxy Johns. We drove all around the country and feel like we got a glimpse of what most regions had to offer as far as Irish hospitality and what we enjoyed the most, was our time at Foxy's. Richie and Darren were immediately welcoming, but not in a fake "make sure you give us a good review on Trip Advisor" kind of way. In fact, I think Richie's initial greeting to me was, "Ah, you're a big f&*%er aren't ya?" and when I responded back with a similar remark, we became fast friends for the next 48 hours we were in Dingle. Not only were the people cool at Foxy's, but the place itself is an experience to be had. One half pub, one half hardware store(yep, you can buy a box of nails and a pint of Guinness on the same tab), with a cozy fireplace-warmed back room, perfect for chatting with friends while you empty glasses. The next time we land in Dublin, we'll skip the touristy crap and just drive west toward County Kerry until we get back to that pub, Foxy Johns in Dingle.

They were "Proper Nonsense" and it was amazing.

What a hoot. Just was looking for a place to have a pint. Came in the door it was filled to the rim. Luckily a couple got up and we swooped in and got a spot right in front of the live music for the night. Live Irish music drinking great Irish whiskey and beer. Was a great night and everyone as lovely.

You can only get rat poison and beer at so many bars!

Where else can you purchase a hammer and nails with a pint of beer?!?!?! I'd imagine this concept anywhere else would be a huge liability, but at Foxy Johns it just works! This quirky and unique pub in Dingle is a hardware store by day and a pub at night. Locals frequent the bar so you'll hear conversations in Gaelic and English. We stopped in for a pint of beer before dinner and the pub was fairly quiet, but the bar was pretty packed when we passed by later in the evening. TIP: Bicycle rentals are available in the back of the pub.

Very cool pub! And, it's a hardware store too. What else could you possibly want? The people in Dingle are just wonderful.

This is a funnel. It is also an efficient beer consumption devise. As they say, when in Ireland.

Only place (in the world?) you can buy beer and a funnel (beer bong allegedly) for $10. Music is as good as it gets too.

Fun pub and the Guinness was great. Would totally go again. The bartenders were amazing too.

I have to give a special shoutout to the vegan burger--it was absolutely outstanding. Perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and thoughtfully put together with great toppings and a delicious bun. It's not always easy to find a truly satisfying vegan option in a pub, but this one exceeded expectations. The veg soup was also really good--comforting, hearty, and clearly homemade. And the salad greens were incredibly fresh and crisp, which added a nice, light balance to the meal. Great food, friendly service, and a lovely setting. I'd definitely come back next time I'm in Dingle!

We were seated at a nice booth, and next to an interesting group of folks speaking French. Our waitress was fun and engaging, even when she told us that they were out of Smithwicks. I gladly chose a glass of Rockshore Lager instead. My Lunch choice was an Open Ploughman, as it looked interesting and wanted to avoid yet another Irish meal featuring potatoes. That was pretty tasty, as was Gayle's Prawn and Salmon dish. Nice place!
