This place was hopping just before noon when we arrived but they were super accommodating of our group of 7. The service was fabulous and food was SO yummy. I had the Veggin Out sandwich which was delicious. The upgrade to fries was worth it...generous portion, perfect flavor and texture. Tried a bite of a potato latke and it was perfection. I eat here just about monthly. I've been going for decades and I enjoy the changes. Yes, it is different. But the mish mash is still delicious. The Reuben is still the best in the city. This place had single-handedly gotten me through the flu this week. I've been a Fox's fan for quite a few years and used to go weekly before I changed jobs. The owners are taking the Fox's many have loved for decades and somehow managing to make it better. Now: to the food. A few of my go-tos are: - Fox's standard breakfast: eggs your way, latkes, toast, and your choice of meat. Get the pastrami. It gets crisped up beautifully on the grill. This meal is a great spin on a traditional diner breakfast. - Mish Mosh Soup: great if you're sick and also wonderful if you just like soup. It's a not too greasy, but not at all bland chicken broth (many of their soups use this as the base) with a large matzoh ball, kreplach beef dumpling, noodles and rice. This has been my sore throat remedy for years. - the Oy Vey sandwich: this one was a bit of an eye raiser, but bare with me. Chicken salad, bacon, grilled onions and a sharp & creamy mustard on rye. Why do it? I'm not sure, but I'm so happy they did. The flavors and textures balance extremely well and when a sandwich is on my mind, this is my first choice. Fair warning: This is not a sandwich to eat on a first date or during an important business meeting. You will embarrass yourself with this beautiful disaster. - the bagels: heavenly. I think these edge out many of the local bagel shops. Some may call this a hot take, but I fully stand by it. A good crunch and nice chew without skimping on toppings. Get them with lox & cream cheese, as an egg sandwich, or on their own. For me, they do not miss. If you are sick Fox's is the best place in the area for take out, hands down. If you are not sick, Fox's has some amazing take out, and a great dine-in experience as well. Either way, Fox's will fill your belly in the most delicious way. read more

I tried this place today for the first time and loved it. The service was great, the food was delicious and it's close to my job, all wins in my book! I came here for a Yelp elite event and was very pleased with both the food and the service at this establishment. My fiancée and I ended up ordering more food than what the event provided and nothing disappointed. I highly recommend checking out this restaurant. To start off, the event provided us with a soup of my choice, with which I chose the mish mosh soup. The mish mosh is a combination of the matzo ball, kreplach, and chicken noodle/rice soups. I have to say, it's incredible how each the component of each individual soup really makes the soup taste like it's own. When you're eating the matzo, it tastes like a matzo soup, when you have the wonton, it tastes like the kreplach. It really was three soups in one and the ultimate option for those of us who have difficulty deciding what to eat. I absolutely loved the matzo ball, which I had never had before. It had a really interesting baking spice flavor that was just fantastic. For our main course, we had latkes with sour cream and applesauce along with the veggin' out with sauerkraut and Russian dressing. The latkes were quite delicious, they kind of reminded me of shredded hash brown. We ended up using the Russian dressing to dip them in and it was sublime. The veggin' out was pretty awesome, I have to admit. I'm always looking for a good vegetarian take on classic sandwiches and substituting roasted red pepper for corned beef was a wonderful idea for this spin on a Ruben. It was so tasty, yet light on the stomach and the red pepper added a very nice freshness to the whole sandwich. To finish, I was given my choice of cookie for the event and I picked their lemon cookie. I kid you not, this was the best lemon cookie I've ever had. It had a really strong lemon flavor, kind of acidic, which was mellowed out by it's sweet, sweet sugar. I want another one now! Really glad they reopened for dine in after covid but things just aren't the same as pre-pandemic. I've been going to Fox's since I was a kid and the portions continually get smaller and prices get higher year after year. I won't stop going, but it has become somewhat of a treat rather than a go to regular lunch spot. They also got rid of Saturday hours which makes it a lot harder to get to! The food last time I was there was just as delicious as always but lots has changed too. Kreplach and Mish Mosh are my family's favorite soups and someone usually has Three's Company, My Generation, and New York, New York. read more

Richard K took me to lunch here a while back and I don't know why I did not review it my bad. We had a table and this place had a little bit of everyone here age wise and yes they have regulars. Our server was nice and efficient. I got some matzoh ball soup it was good and I got a Ruben and as always I ask for a side of thousand island dressing. It was all tasty and I will of course be back. I'm use to The Bagel (now closer back in Illinois) Manny's as well in Chicago and 2nd Ave Deli in NYC. Is this place good, yes is it great.. you be the judge. Decided to go here on a whim, wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered The Rachel to go and was out the door in like 3 minutes. Got back to the office and wasn't disappointed. The sandwich had a pile of pastrami, a good amount of sauce, and the bread had a good crunch like all grilled sandwiches should. 3.5 I've been here twice now for lunch with some coworkers. Both times we were sat down immediately by the older woman whom I believe is the owner. Overall the staff was nice, but they seem overwhelmed and a tad understaffed. I realize they are only open for a short window...but waiting 10-15 minutes to place an order doesn't quiet work for my hour lunch break. Fox's has an abundance of sandwiches selections, both hot & cold. Typical of a Jewish deli. I'd also like to note that the meat on these sandwiches towers high! In addition, they have many soup choices as well as burgers and chicken sandwiches (none which I have ordered). Lastly, take some time to peruse their cold case. It contains lots and lots of Jewish deli side dishes and jumbo pickles. Shout out to them carrying Knish's (and in many different flavors). I was thrown off by their shape and size. I'm used to square Knish's. They also look a bit denser than what I am used to.. so, again, I have yet to try it. On my first trip I split the New York, New York and a Reuben. Reuben is a classic and pretty dang good. The New York, New York was good, but would have been great if they grilled it like the Reuben. ...... maybe I will request it next time! Sandwiches come with chips, which doesn't do it for me. Second trip I noticed they did not have "appetizers" on their menu. I was jonesing for some loaded cheese fries. I asked if the waitress if they had jalapenos, onions, bacon, sour cream, and cheddar. She said Yes to each.. so I asked for her to throw that on some well-done fries. It was good..... but not great. The cheese wasn't really melted, so the toppings didn't really stick. But, it did satisfy my craving for the day. The décor- circa 80's and ugly. I wouldn't mind if it was a 50 - 60's era diner. Id like to start off by saying they are suuuuper nice. Very friendly. I wish they opened before 8am because I'd go before work. However, I tried getting a plain bagel with butter and the butter didn't fully penetrate throughout, so there was just dry bagel. I then came back a few weeks later to give them a second chance...it is meh (currently eating it as I write this review). It does not look appetizing and the consistency of the bagel isn't great either. I am a downstater, so I feel like I know when I have had a good bagel..and this wasn't it. It has the consistency of a tim horton's bagel. Not inedible, but leaves room for improvement, esp bc my bagel is black. Super friendly and personable staff that is more than willing to answer any and all questions and give great recommendations. First time I stopped and had the Reuben and a knish. It was one of the best Reuben's I've ever had and the knish was fantastic. Generous portions and great prices. And the icing on cake would be the Dr. Brown's soda selection! What is old is new again! So, I have been anxious to get to Fox's Deli in Winton Place to assess the offerings at this well-established Rochester fixture since it had transitioned to a new family to run ... I was not disappointed! The place has the same bones, the same character, and the same delicious staple of offerings as the Fox's that we have all grown to love; and the sandwich selection is quite impressive offering almost 3 dozen combinations as well as the opportunity to build your own; oh, included in this impressive selection is their classic Rueben and a nice vegetarian offering. I was able to pop in on a Saturday recently to pick up some deli salads for the weekend ... for this excursion, I chose the egg salad, which was creamy and chunky, simple yet elevated ... not sure how they do it ... but it was amazing. The next thing I picked up was the chicken salad, this has always been an Achilles heel for me as I love a proper chicken salad, this one delivered the goods ... full of perfect chicken breast meat engulfed in a creamy and savory mixture that was equally remarkable alone as it was on bread. Then finally I selected the coleslaw ... this coleslaw was divine and triggered all the right senses as it danced in my mouth! I picked up some sweets, the lemon cookies happen to be a favorite for me as I am a sucker for anything lemon. The service was genuine and warm, like your favorite neighborhood deli from a time past with an updated vibe that marries tradition with all that is good today. All this to say, if you have not stopped in yet, treat yourself ... if nothing else, plan on your picnic deli salads to come from Fox's and be prepared to impress your family and guests! read more

I tried Fox's 4 times since the change in ownership. On the positive side, the sandwiches are still as good as previously-- although the menu is now down to one page and my favorite (the southwestern) didn't make the cut. The sandwiches are chock full of all the good stuff and the bread is yummy. I do miss the plastic lids that they used to place the sandwiches on to keep the bottoms from getting soggy. Cons: The "pickle' that comes with each sandwich is 1/8 of a whole pickle sliced lengthwise. Not really a pickle. The mac salad is horrible. Clear runny sauce with the macaroni floating in it, and not too much in it as far as seasoning or anything other than runny sauce and macaroni. And the potato salad? Paid $4.50 for a side, not only was it small but I could tell it was commercially made from a much larger batch. Potatoes all cut in perfect little 1/4 inch squares, not quite cooked all the way through, doused in mayo, and nothing else. Of both the mac salad and the potato salad, I took one bite and threw the rest away. And can we discuss the matzo ball soup? The matzo balls were not as tender, the broth was an awful brown color, and again, lacked any real flavor at all. 2 stars for the sandwiches ( alone they are 5 stars). So the verdict is I will keep ordering sandwiches and will lament the loss of the other menu items. read more

What??? I haven't reviewed Fox's yet? For shame... this is one of my favorite spots to go to for lunch. The menu is so vast & packed with goodies. Where to begin? First off, if you just want a deli sandwich, they're right up there with the best in the area. Where they REALLY shine, however, is the other items on the menu. Great Reuben sandwich, hot corned beef, & I love their southwestern sandwich (which is a turkey Reuben) and, of course, the aptly named Everybody Loves Ryeman. What really get's my motor started is the burgers... very tasty! If you want some added starch, their french fries are a treat as well. While I'l avoiding potatoes these days, I can't help stealing a few from my lunch partner's plate when they're not looking! Soups are always a pleasure here as well.. the soup of the day varies, but standards like Matzo ball soup & Mish-Mosh are on daily. I liked fox's deli. It was a cool place with lots of funny pictures for their sandwiches on the wall and everyone working there was very friendly. I tried the famous reuben sandwich which was pretty great! It wasn't the biggest sandwich but it was very flavorful! We also shared a stuffed cabbage which was outstanding! The sauce was so good and the meat was delicious! My girlfriend tried the liver plate which she said was very good. I was a little surprised to see a Jewish deli with no pickles! It's part of the formula for delis I've been to. Would definitely try fox's again there's a large menu of good sounding food left to try. If you're looking for a solid deli sandwich, look no further than Fox's. This is the go-to Jewish deli in the area. They have all the greats on their extensive menu with stand outs being the matzo ball soup, the pastrami sandwich, and a surprisingly delicious BLT. The matzo ball soup is the perfect cure for the common cold and all other ails or just the need for good mf broth with the most tender matzo balls. I love their coleslaw too, which makes the New York, New York one of my favorites with Russian dressing, pastrami AND corned beef. Their knishes are also stellar if you want the fluffiest potatoes - the traditional is great as-is but the twice baked has cheese and bacon to make it like a baked potato style bite. The space is awesome - diner style seating with booths everywhere. A great stop for lunch and a smile. The walls are covered in caricatures of celebrities and funny sayings some of which have to do with the food they serve.
