YUM! This spot has been at the market for ages and I had my first stop in over the weekend. Both my date and I went with a bacon egg and cheese. If you're in a hurry and looking for a delicious breakfast sandwich (or hot/ham/other eats), this is going to be your spot. No line and the sams come out super fast so you can go enjoy on a bench or inside. The staff here was the sweetest ever and I absolutely love that you can get ketchup or hot sauce or peppers & onions right on your sam without having to put it on yourself. I will say that while the roll was yummy, I wish it had a little bit of time on the griddle prior to having the contents of the sammich dropped on. It was pretty much a regular old cold roll with the goods dropped on. I think that's how they pop 'em out so fast, but I would be willing to wait a bit longer for a more complete/toasted roll. I look forward to my next trip, and love the longevity and old time feel of this spot. read more

First timer here! Boy I didn't realize what I have been missing. I ordered the Italian sausage with peppers and it didn't disappoint. Sausage had a little kick to it. Nice friendly and fast service. Okay... everybody knows about Scotts II and Juan & Maria's Empanadas, but if you haven't given Zimmerman's a shot you're definitely missing out! I give them major props for quality food and friendly service. I'm a little biased, given that I share my first name with the owner, however Stan and Marianne @ Zimmerman's are quality people serving up quality food! That said, no review of Zimmerman's is complete without giving a shout-out to their singular contribution to the Rochester food scene... the Bologna Supreme! As essential to our local cuisine as Chicken French and (love it or leave it) Tahou's Garbage Plate ™. Ingredients: Petrillo roll, fried bologna, fried egg, cheese, bacon, onions and (drumroll please) Zimmerman's special recipe meat hot sauce. I ask for mayonnaise on mine, natch. Zimmerman's. A corner stone of the market. Coffee on a sleepy cold mornings and filling food to keep shoppers shopping and vendors vending. Walled in during the winters to keep people warm while they eat their breakfast and open to the market, and the elements in the warmer months. A few months ago I started trying out all the breakfast sandwiches at the market. I am pretty sure I have tries them all at this point but I may have missed one here or there. I have my own opinions on which are good, which are good and which are over hyped. If I am getting food to go, I will usually get it from the Union Street Bakery for $3.50. That is the same price as Zimmerman's and honestly I think Zimmerman's is the better sandiwch, it's just less mobile. One of my favorite breakfast's is their waffles. A waffle with 2 eggs and sausage is $4. It's a decent size waffle and it's quite yummy. I use the eggs and some sausage ON half the waffle which is my savory side, The other half gets the rest of the sausage and some syrup and it my sweet half. Through in a soda or coffee and it's a really decent breakfast for $5! Don't be afraid to pop your head in and see if their is a seat available, there are hooks for your groceries. If they are full check back in 10 minutes because people usually clear out pretty quick. Picnic tables out front for the warmer months. Try em out, you will not be dissapointed. read more

Our go-to breakfast spot at the Rochester Public Market. Yes this open air "hut" it is a dump but that is the charm (when the weather turns cold they have walls they put up to block the wind). The egg, cheese, and ham (or sausage or bacon) breakfast sandwich is just $3.50 - a great bargain for the amount of meat on the sandwich. There are many other choices including waffles, hots, etc. The lively banter between the workers and the patrons adds to the ambiance (that word maybe too fancy for this joint). This is the little breakfast sandwich hut that is located near the new market building that is nearly ready to open. Zimmerman's has a bunch of stools to belly up to for a quick bite, and 4-6 large picnic tables out front for families, or parents with strollers. There are napkins in dispensers around the breakfast bar, but you need to ask for silverware if you plan on cutting a sandwich into pieces for your little ones. Two sandwiches and an OJ was $9. We just ordered the bacon, eggs, and cheese sandwiches. They came out hot, and were alright. This is a good place to go for a quick bite before or after you do your market rounds. read more

Sorry Kevin F., I think you need to return to the Cheese Cake Factory- I'm sure they miss you. Your comments were ridiculous. According to your standards the servers should change glove twice per customer or about 1000 times per day. The person behind the grill is not required to wear gloves and yes she touches the meat before it goes on the grill. How do you think your meat finds its way to the grill at a fine steakhouse- THE CHEF TOUCHES IT! I'm not sure what type of boy in the bubble world you live in - but it isn't this world. Like the Cheers song- Zimmerman's " is the place where everyone knows your name and they are always glad you came". The breakfast sandwich is the best value at the market at $3.00. Free re-fills on coffee. Huge, original recipe hots, Italian sausages and waffles or a grilled cheese for the little ones. The specialty sandwich is the Baloney Supreme- often imitated but never duplicated! (Bring a bib!) A huge percentage of the customers are regulars every Saturday. The staff is friendly and funny and the two owners behind the grill seem to be friends with every customer- doesn't matter if its your first time there or your 50th. Its a fun place to just sit and listen to the banter. Join in or quietly eat your breakfast with an occasional snicker. Zimmerman's is where I've been starting my Weekends for the last 15 years. There are lots of stalls to eat at the public market, but Zimmerman's has a great fried bologna sandwich with cheese and onions. Mouth wateringly good. Italian sausage is also very good. Don't forget the Rochester style meat hot sauce. read more

Gross! This place needs to have the health department through. I stopped there for breakfast on Saturday to order a breakfast sandwich. Anybody who knows this place knows that it is open air, so you can see the food prepared. The staff members all wore plastic gloves which would be great, but they would go from handling cooked food to money to raw food without ever changing gloves or washing hands. I watched the guy who was taking care of my food, he wore a backwards Jets hat, take my order, count out tip money, and grab the crown of my breakfast sandwich to put it together all while using the same gloves. Do you know how dirty money is? I saw another staff member drink out of a soda can and eat a hotdog while wearing gloves, than took a customer order, took their money, made change, and put their sandwich together. Gross Gross Gross! I also watched the lady at the grill handle raw meat bare-handed and then handle her spatula, tongs, and cooked food without washing her hands. She was not wearing any gloves and I didn't see any hand washing. Their was cross-contamination all over this place. As I write this review my stomach turns. I am not expecting a food stand at the market to be fine dining, but at least adopt some form of food safety. Besides the fact that the whole place is disgusting, their cross-contamination could get somebody sick. The fact that they do it out in the open tells me that they might not have the knowledge of food safety, which is a bigger concern than knowing and ignoring. Order the Milhouse. If they look at you funny for a second, you might have to clarify. It's a buttered waffle with a Zweigles red hot on top. Best eaten like a taco; fold the waffle in half and just go to town. Works for breakfast or lunch. Really warms you up in the colder months, but it's still good on a warm summer visit to the market. read more

I am a regular at Zimmerman's at the Rochester Public market. I love the breakfast sandwiches. The owners and employees are so friendly and cheerful, they have a large following. Recently I brought some out-of-town friends to the Public Market. I thought I would impress them with the best market in the country. How this place has not been cited by the Health department is truly a mystery to me. I visited this market eatery last week, ordered a red hot and promptly cancelled my order upon watching how my order was prepared. Not one person I observed preparing food appeared to have a clue with regard to handling food and cross contamination; not one individual preparing the food changed their gloves when their job description changed. Case in point: After placing my order, I witnessed the young lady who took my order take money from a another customer, make change, return the change to that customer and then she fumbled around in a bag of rolls to retrieve the roll she needed for my order. This bacteria trail could rival that of a petri dish! Apparently I was not the only disgruntled customer as I overheard the person next to me commenting on the fact that their hot dog was still cold in the center. I think there is a reason you see reputable food establishments continually probing with thermometers. I think a "Eat at your own risk" notice should be posted in plain view of patrons so people can make their own choice if they want to entertain the prospect of ending up in the ER with food poisoning. read more
