They recently did some major renovations on the paddocks and I am thrilled with the work. They have an indoor and an outdoor arena. The indoor one is not heated but, it is still a great place to work with your horse, especially in the winter! My horses is stall boarded and they cleaned her enclosure once a day, plus they feed twice a day, and they give her arthritis medicine to her. They have open houses where you can meet the other borders twice a year. Recently, I attended a tax sale that they were putting on. I have also attended a two day class there. Don is very knowledgeable about Horse care and does not hesitate to answer questions. He also does training and you can use your own horse or one of the barn horses. These prices are extremely reasonable. I would definitely recommend this barn.

Specifically..The Ted Lasso promo event. What a VERY dissapointing event!!…read moreWe arrived early to get the promo scarf but were told they were already out... there couldn't have been more than a few hundred people in the stadium when we got there. Later we saw 2 employees dragging a huge box of scarves into the guest services office. We went over to ask about them but was met with the door being shut in our face before we could politely ask about them. Later in the evening there was a woman with a bunch around her neck walking around asking trivia questions but she only allowed one of us to play the game ( there were two of us)... And yet we saw her putting scarves around three little children who weren't even capable of playing the game a few minutes later. Now for the worst part of the evening...Fans were not allowed to sit in the shaded area of the stands and were told that we had to sit in the lower seating area on the east side in the glaring sun if we wanted seats, and that they were "filming" and wanted to make sure that the lower area was filled first. Yet the lower area on the west/shaded side was only open to VIPs. ( this was a free event and there was no option for a VIP ticket. So we have no idea how those seats were distributed) They had huge fans set up but they weren't turned on. It was a heat index of 102°!! We were forced to stand in the common areas for shade for 1.5 hrs before they finally opened up the shaded upper area on the west side. We know of two people that were overcome by heat, one of them was a child. Now about the Ted Lasso part of the event...The fact that five members of the cast came out said "hi" and were on the screen less than a minute before showing a 1 min preview clip of the next season & then leaving was very dissapointing. we never saw them again. Later there seemed to be social media posts that showed more but that didnt actually happen was shocking. We really expected a little more from this promotion due to the hype and the Ted Lasso bus riding around Kansas City all day. Very poor planning, and a lot of disappointed fans leaving the stadium early. We rode back on the streetcar to a lot of people just complaining about how disappointed they were and how badly it was handled. One more item that was very disappointing was for a FIFA Semi final watch party event the speaker system in the stadium was not working well. Fans could not hear what was going on at all and a lot of people left to go other places to watch the game. So, hey #brittneymahomes...while you were enjoying yourself at Chiefs stadium, your business venture really bombed this event.

She has helped riding become fun again for me, as well as found me an excellent horse to call my own! Not only does she have a lot of outdoor space, the indoor arena is an absolute must have for any barn I ride at!! Janssen's is well maintained and insulated, and allows you to ride in even some of the worst winter weather. The footing is excellent as well. A little of my background: I've been riding on-and-off again for 25 years. I've owned several horses and been at a variety of barns. Janssen is definitely one of the top places I've been.

The Coterie is one of my favorite theaters in Kansas City. The productions are always outstanding,…read moreand the staff is consistently friendly and welcoming. I've been several times and have enjoyed a variety of shows. While many of the performances are geared toward children, adults will enjoy them just as much. If you catch an early show, be sure to get your parking validated, it covers parking for the entire day, giving you plenty of time to explore the surrounding area afterward.

You know what is the best sound in the entire world?…read more The sound of children laughing. The happiness of youth, giggling and smiling, eyes full of wonder and laughs full of joy. It's all the better when the source of their mirth is in three dimensions versus on a screen (not that some of that isn't funny). It's even exponentially better when the action is not only in front of them but AROUND them. I accompanied my lovely teacher wife's 4th grade to the Coterie for a field trip. A talented troupe of young performers put on a version of 'A Wrinkle in Time', a fabulous fantasy story that this group of 4th graders had been reading to start the school year. To see their faces as the story in which they had invested so much time come to life was phenomenal! The fact that not only can audience members (mostly children) sit SO close to the stage but that some of the action happens out IN the audience is chef's kiss! The actors keep the audience engaged and somewhat mesmerized and since there is no photography allowed, everyone's attention span is much longer. Even the 'special effects' are well-done, from lighting to very creative costume design. There is not a bad seat in the house and tickets are pretty affordable. You can get concessions there or maybe even save your appetite for Fritz's or the candy shop across the way. If you're there during the week, then don't be surprised if there are groups of kids with chaperones (like us!) or maybe a day camp or two in the summer. And if you park in the Crown Center garage, then be sure to get your parking ticket validated, if not at the Coterie then at a shop inside. Great experience and great value!

I saw a Cirque Du Gay performance for the first time a couple months back and I was *blown away.*…read moreThis is NYC, San Francisco (and Paris, bien sûr) caliber talent. I cut my teeth on the most superb drag shows and cabaret for the past 20 years. It's part of coming of age in the big city, right? I also worked for two years at NYC's Lucky Chengs, "Drag Queen Capital of the World." I know good drag when I see it! (And so does my mom. Guess who's addicted to Ru Paul's Drag Race?) Cirque du Gay's cabaret (I made a rhyme!) is made up of two guys...*only* two guys. I say this because until curtain call, I thought it was a cast of many (true, I have poor vision but that's besides the point). These performers certainly pulled the taffeta over *my* eyes. Most of the acts are that kind of bizarre-funny that either goes over heads or makes you laugh uncontrollably (guess what camp I fell into?) For example, they had this really floppy/foppy puppet that randomly peeked out over the backdrop throughout the show. Are you laughing now? Why not? See? In all seriousness, the numbers combine music, dance, lip synching, mime and comedy. The costumes were as garish and sometimes comical, as they were gorge and creative The performers are at the top of their game. I hope to catch one of their upcoming shows around town, soon. They deserve to be raking in the dough and live the life of full time performers, though ticket prices are ridiculously cheap. Bring yer momma! If she's like mine, she'll love it. Sure, it can get bawdy (hello, it's drag) but nothing hard core offensive.
