Of Major League Soccer's current 28 teams, only seven have won two or more MLS Cup championships…read more Sporting Kansas City is one of those teams. They won the MLS Cup in 2000 and 2013. Four of the seven teams to win multiple MLS Cups were part of the original 10 teams to begin the league's inaugural season in 1996. Again, Sporting Kansas City is one of those teams. Back then, they were known as the Kansas City Wiz and shortly thereafter, Wizards. Since 1996, Kansas City has finished first in its conference seven times and won the US Open Cup four times. The US Open Cup, by the way, is officially known as the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Hunt is the late founder and former owner of Sporting Kansas City, among other teams. The 2000 season has been Kansas City's best to date. Not only did the then-Wizards beat the Chicago Fire, 1-0, to win the 2000 MLS Cup, they also won the Supporters' Shield that same season (best regular-season record). Despite another half-dozen first-place conference finishes, Kansas City hasn't won the Supporters' Shield in any other season. Kansas City and Real Salt Lake made the record books during the 2013 MLS Cup championship game. Kansas City and Salt Lake had a penalty shootout that lasted 10 rounds, the longest in MLS Cup history. The entire classic is available to watch for free via MLS' YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jvd3PaVBw-A. The shootout begins at 2:12:10: https://youtu.be/Jvd3PaVBw-A?t=7930. The most accomplished player in team history is midfielder Preki (Predrag Radosavljevic). He's the only player to have won the MLS MVP Award twice (1997, 2003). Those were also the same years he was the MLS Scoring Champion (Golden Boot award). Goalkeeper Tony Meola is the only other Kansas City player to win the league's MVP Award (2000). Both Preki and Meola were on the 2000 championship team with Meola earning Man of the Match honors. That season, Meola was also named MLS' Goalkeeper of the Year and Comeback Player of the Year. To this day, Meola holds the MLS record for most shutouts in a single season with 16 in 2000. Twelve years later, another Kansas City goalie came close. Jimmy Nielsen had 15 shutouts in 2012. He's alone in second place.

It's not very sporting of me to write this review, but here goes anyway…read more Sporting Kansas City is one of my favorite teams although I always kinda miss the Kansas City Wizards. More successful since changing over to Sporting, they've been going from strength to strength as they say, so I guess it worked out well for them. Kansas City has an unbelievable amount of success going for it and I've been a big fan for a long time. They've been nothing but amazing in terms of their NFL win and the baseball win and I'm delighted that their soccer team has done well as well. The soccer specific Stadium where you can find this excellent KC team playing generates a great atmosphere and it's a credit to the community. It's Childrens Mercy Park, and it can hold about 20k people, usually sold out, and always one of the loudest in the league.

I checked in at the Pro Shop, where a kind employee let me know that the tour guide would collect my ticket and had not arrived yet. My guide was Blake, who seemed to have a long history with the team, possibly as a player, Red Coat, or longtime employee. He was fantastic: knowledgeable, happy to answer questions, and always willing to help take photos. The tour included the museum, locker room, press room, field, a suite, and the suite level. Afterward, we could shop in the team store and receive a 15% discount on everything except sunglasses. Overall, this was a great experience and easily one of the highlights of my limited time in Kansas City. I highly recommend it to any Chiefs or football fan visiting the area. Thank you, Blake, for a fun time!

Plenty of yummy eats to try. We love BBQ so Chef J is always a stop for us at the stadium. Loaded tots are so delightful. We also grab a souvenir cup every time and I love the new plastic lids that keep spills and bugs from your drink. The drink holders in the seats in front are great! I love all the local to KC food options. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. I wish there were some hand sanitizers available too. We visited the hall of fame hallway and pro shop this in itself is a cool experience. There are plenty of photo op places near there including a giant Arrowhead. The Chiefs cheerleaders are so sweet but I wish there were more crowd interactions with them and KC Wolf . Games or chances to win merchandise etc like they do at the Royals.

It was easy to go in and out of the auditorium area and the toilets were besides the gates of the auditorium- very convenient. I did see a balcony section as well. The food provided by the auditorium was ok - I bought popcorn and it turned out to be stale and very salty but I was glad to find outside vendors selling more food inside and it filled the void. I also felt that they should do a better job of hanging seating signs outside the main areas because it was very confusing to find my seat inside. To conclude, The stage, sound, service and overall event was fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Getting there…read morewas a breeze thanks to the KC360 Connect bus and the KC Streetcar, which made transportation convenient and stress-free. There was so much to see and do throughout the festival. The variety of activities kept the energy high, and my favorite experience was definitely the Silent Disco--it was such a fun and unique addition that had everyone dancing and enjoying themselves. My only downside was the food. While there were plenty of options, I found it to be pretty expensive, and the quality didn't quite match the price. That was a bit disappointing, but it wasn't enough to take away from the overall experience. Between the entertainment, atmosphere, and easy transportation, the FIFA Fan Festival was well worth attending. I had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend checking it out if you're in Kansas City for the event!

It's amazing to think the FIFA World Cup came to Kansas City in 2026…read more Tickets to the matches themselves were well beyond our budget, so we watched the games on TV. But we did want to experience the atmosphere, so we headed to the FIFA Fan Fest to celebrate with fans from around the world. We took the free shuttle from KCI, which dropped us off about three blocks from the entrance. Because I wasn't sure if the daily allotment of 25,000 free admissions would fill up, we purchased Premium Garden Passes to guarantee entry. After attending on the afternoon of July 9, I honestly wish we had just used the free admission. The Premium Garden included high-top bar seating under a canopy, a small collection of cushioned lawn chairs in the shade, and dedicated restrooms. Those perks were nice, but not enough to justify the price. And the space was packed. As others have mentioned, food and drink prices were steep. We ordered two gin and tonics that came to $36 (before tax and tip) and they were served in small plastic cups. What really got under my skin, though, was when I asked for a few cups of ice for water bottles we had brought with us. The hostess said she could only give me one cup of ice. It was a larger cup, but I couldn't help asking why they were rationing ice after I'd paid $55 for a Premium ticket. That said, the festival itself was laid out very well. There was plenty of room to move around, lots of food choices, and a fun, energetic atmosphere with fans representing countries from all over the world. Even the best bargain I found--a cold 12-ounce bottle of Coke from an ice bath--still cost $7. I suppose some of the pricing is to be expected at a FIFA event. Overall, I'm glad we went because it was a unique experience. But if I had it to do over again, I would skip the Premium Garden Passes and simply take advantage of the free admission.

I attended their 2nd ever home game here this afternoon. The stadium is old and quaint, so don't expect a lot of modern amenities. The bleachers are covered so shade and rain protection are assured. Tickets are $10 card only and parking is free; and a small snack bar has basics. The stadium is surrounded by grass and trees, and provides great vantage points to witness professional baseball up close and personal. There was only about 50 people in attendance for this 2000 seat stadium, so I moved around a bit, but enjoyed sitting right under the press box behind home plate, so I could hear the radio broadcasters. The foul balls bouncing off the metal roof above us provided great sound effects and watching dug-out players retrieve foul balls from the first base side woods reminded me this ain't the big leagues. An afternoon of novelty, true sportsmanship, and visiting a piece of Kansas City history made for a memorable visit. I would love to go back.
