I have four kids, three upright and one fur baby. I can't (and wouldn't) "leave them at home" nor do I hire a babysitter so I can take my dog to the dog park. ‍ Please be kind to all the families with dogs and kids. We do our best to respect that this is a "dog park" not a people park. But my kids are excited to run and play with their fur sibling and so long as it's not a crowded day, I feel they should do so without the shaming. We take our dog everywhere, including the people park...and no one has ever told us we should have left our dog at home.

It was a little confusing our first visit here as we didn't notice any clear signage directing us where to get to the water or other areas from the grassy path. Our pups enjoyed their visit very much and although the small body of water didn't look the cleanest, we still let them cool off and enjoy a swim. The picnic tables in a shaded area were appreciated on a hot day. Bring lot's of drinking water for you and your pet! Also, as with most dog parks, remember that any toys you bring for fetching are likely going to be "fair game" to the many other dogs you might see here.

They are allowed to be off leash throughout the entire forest preserve in the area before the bridge. I also love that the paths are natural and it's super foresty and shaded.

We made the mistake of going right when we left the parking area... Left was a better choice. But the area that is not part of the unleashed dog area is still beautiful. We walked out over the river on the newly constructed bridge and just took in the views. Then walking back we found another path back into the unleashed area which brought us to the river, which my dogs were all about, sprinting directly into the water before we could even catch up, it was a warm day. Overall I love this park, and it is well worth the trip for a nice walk. Highly recommend that anyone with a dog who loves to run, get wet, play with other dogs or just walk with you try this place!

Rather than touching grass itself, we decided to spend time in nature and just enjoy all that the park had to offer. We visited the farm park and took in the various garden areas, and the butterfly house. Our little guy was just blown away with the butterflies flying everything and had such a blast watching them land on his head. It was free as was the parking and everything is close by. Such a fun place to pack a picnic and enjoy the park.

Permits give you access to all the FPDDC parks. Love this dog park. It is huge and has a decent amount of seating for the owners. I like how there is a play area and walking circle around the inside of the fence. The middle of the park is open and green. Trees and shrubs grow rather freely. Almost all of the dogs have been friendly and haven't caused too much trouble. My dog has gone from wanting to curl up in a corner to actually coming out to wrestle with a few of the smaller dogs. She often gets carried away and even plays with larger breeds. Make sure you bring your own water. They don't have any type of well or tap and it can get very hot. Even if the weather is mild, the dogs get overheated if they play a lot. Most of the people bring their own little coolers.

Not the right place for puppies…read more I tried this park three times with my puppy (Nash who's 5 m), and I won't be going back. The biggest issue is the owners. Too many just don't rlly care. One woman watched her dog chase me and my leashed puppy while I scrambled in circles to get him away. She eventually grabbed her dog's collar and walked off without a word. Nash was leashed every visit except one brief moment when I felt confident letting him off his first time. That's when two other dogs got into a full-blown fight right next to us. A lot of owners just shrugged it off as an "oops." There are some great regulars here, and I'm sure plenty of people enjoy it. But for us, it wasn't safe enough. If you have a puppy, nervous , or a very energetic dog I'd go elsewhere. Just because you don't HAVE to have a leash doesn't mean everyone doesn't NEED them!!!!

The dogs like walking through the prairie grass. Be warned you need a Duphage county off leash permit to come here otherwise the fine is $75. The only down side is that there's no water fountain inside. Owners tend to bring coolers full of water and everyone I've meet there had been great about sharing.
