Horsetmen Homestead Estates: Review from a mother of the…read morebride. This is a mixed review so please read thoroughly and make your best judgement based on sheer facts. Good parts: Appearance: 10/10 absolutely stunning. The grounds are impeccable and beautifully maintained. The chapel is adorable, the "hen house" where the bride and the girls get ready is adorable and well kept. Where the groom and groomsmen get ready is below the barn and very rustic and roomy. The reception barn is amazing, well ventilated and available to decorate however you want with the restrictions set forth by the owners. Bathrooms are kept clean and tidy. Bar area is well maintained. And when you are looking to book the facility, everyone SEEMS very accommodating. Prices everywhere are high for booking venues and this was affordable at best. A little tucked out of the way but rustic and charming. Now .... The bad parts. The owners babysit every single aspect of what is to be YOUR special day. They LITERALLY sit or stand with folded arms and watch over set up, they stay around outside the venue watching everyone's move like hawks and don't give you the privacy of what YOU paid for. More than one occasion numerous guests at my daughter's wedding commented how rude these owners were by literally encroaching themselves in the wedding day. Seriously, they were outside sitting watching us all or walking around surveying everyone's move all day long. ALL DAY LONG. From set up, CEREMONY, reception and tear down. It was ridiculous! And more than that, the owners took it upon themselves to reprimand grown adults like rogue teenagers at a barn dance. Oh heck no! Nothing was said about hovering in the contract. When it comes to the contract .... They don't stick to it but they get so under your skin you just want out. When you sign the contract and need a day ahead to set up/have rehearsal run through and dinner, it clearly states clean up AFTER the ceremony reception the FOLLOWING day by noon. But that doesn't matter to them as they will stand outside and order you to clean up and be gone by midnight that day of your wedding. It's happened to my cousin and now to my daughter. We have the contract. They broke it but all of us were so irritated by the owners behavior we just wanted out. There are no cameras to speak of if they are so intent on watching over their property. No one wants a chaperone at their wedding let alone grown adults who have paid a heavy penny for a once in a lifetime event. A wedding and planning are stressful enough without all the BS these owners brought with them. I don't recommend this place. I really don't. But IF you decide to look at it and book them, CLEARLY state you won't tolerate their hovering and to STICK TO THE CONTRACT or you can sue them for breaching that contract. I guarantee they won't have you sign and refuse your business. I don't want any family to lose their business but if these owners don't change their business practices, they won't be in business much longer. I'm glad this is all over but an honest review was needed and justified. Read all reviews good and bad on this place. I give it 2/5 stars. Just don't do it. Pay extra for something more professional or find a family or friend with a farm if that's what you're looking for. Good luck.

I was here for a conference this past week and felt like we were all commenting on how help everyone was. The location is convenient with many food options within walking distance. A plus was that the Kwik trip near it had the cheapest gas in the area. The outdoor fireplace was a great area to gather when catching some fresh air and staying warm. The rooms are a nice size and come with a mini fridge microwave and pod coffee maker. The free hot breakfast was actually really good. Loved the build your own breakfast sandwich. I waited a while to write this review because I wanted to be fair. If I had written it the day of…read morethe event it would have been 1 star. Given the time of further consideration, I think 3 stars is legit. Here's the deal: I attended a family wedding here earlier this summer. The bride & groom were radiant, their friends were ecstatic to participate in their nuptials & everyone in the family was thrilled this day had arrived. We were all eager to celebrate. The venue at The Court Above Main, meaning the large room where the wedding & reception took place, is gorgeous. With high ceilings & floor to ceiling windows there is plenty of natural light on a sunny afternoon. It's elegant & creates a lovely mood as the guests anticipate the blessed event. Finally, the moment arrives...the wedding was a delight. Soon after, pictures began & most of us were quickly scooted out of the wedding venue to a small outside ante-room which turned out to be the bar. There were about 120 guests. Thankfully, not the 150 expected, or this would have been even worse. That's 120 people all eager to get a drink at a small counter with 2 very nice, but obviously overwhelmed, bartenders. Once everyone had their drinks we were all stuck in this ante-room where there were a few tall tables & at most, 8 places to sit. It was a hot summer day & this room didn't have enough air conditioning. Everyone was sweating, there was practically no place to sit, there was barely room to stand, and not a bite to nibble on. (I realize that may have been an error made by the wedding couple in terms of not considering appetizers of any kind. However, what legitimate venue purporting to provide exceptional wedding services would allow an oversight like this without being sure the wedding couple seriously understood the importance of something to eat while drinking alcohol?). We were stuck in this situation for more than 2 hours! That's how long it took the room where the wedding occurred to be transitioned with tables & chairs for the dinner. Yup, 2 hours of being too hot, with aching feet, and no place to escape. Being a wedding, there were several elderly family members in attendance who were able to snag the few available chairs. But not everyone. So finally, people started trying to go in the main room where the tables & chairs were being set up & where it was much cooler because the AC worked almost too well. Those who tried got yelled at! That's hardly a welcoming vibe. The reason this transition took so long is because there were only 2 people on staff doing all the work. I have a good friend who manages wedding events & when I told him about this wedding, he said they always have a minimum staff of 5 for this number of people so they can ensure the transition happens in no more than 20 minutes. Now that seems reasonable. Once we were finally seated for dinner, the same 2 people were the only ones both serving & clearing. They were nice enough, but it all took way too long. I've gone on long enough. I'll finish by saying with this size venue & their limited staffing, I'm sure it could be a lovely wedding for 50 people, 75 at the most. Otherwise, it's simply not a large enough space, at least for the drinking portion of the event. And you'd be smart to insist there are a minimum of 4 staff to handle transitions & serving. Also insist there are enough tables & chairs in the bar area.

The manager at the bar didn't like this for some reason and kicked my sister-in-law out for the night. There is literally no law in Wisconsin prohibiting you from bringing your own drinking vessel into a bar. While playing bingo she only wants to keep her drink cold and she was denied and kicked out because she brought her own cup. She will never patronize that business again because of it. She used to go three times a week for bingo and whatever event they were putting on. It's not only her that will not be patronizing the business again, it is all her friends that have vowed to never step foot in that place again. I am here on Yelp only because their Facebook page doesn't allow comments from the general populace. My only goal here with this review is to get that bar manager fired!

The venue is stunning for an outdoor wedding and the accommodations if weather is not on your side, outstanding. I have been to a number of outdoor, rustic/farm weddings, this place hits the proverbial " ball " out of the park! They kept everything flowing without any hiccups. I was so impressed with how involved the owners were, on making this day "perfect" for the new bride and groom, family and guests.Beyond that for all those thinking beyond- the parking was easy and close, with a lot of room, the bathrooms(we all know that is important at a big gathering), were spacious, clean, decorated, and well stocked.
