I'm from California, so I'm still not fully used to the way food is served everywhere you go in Oregon. I was thinking, 'Espresso, ice cream, and antiques? That's different.' Is the musky smell of antiques compatible with food service? Not sure how I feel about this, but I ordered a huckleberry soda, anyway. I was curious. It turned out to be one of the best flavored sodas I've ever had. I loved the huckleberry syrup. The antique selection was well-curated. Lots of interesting trinkets and jewelry. Everything you'd expect from an antique shop, plus a gentleman's room full of old Playboys tucked into the back. Service was friendly, and there was plenty of parking. There was no wait. This is a great alternative to stopping by one of the big busy farms if you're just looking for a quick drink, or (obviously) if you're into antiques.

The best deal - if you buy a vase, you are invited to fill it with fresh flowers you pick from the back garden. What? It's totally worth buying a vase just to get the gorgeous bouquet of dahlia, zinnia, cosmos, and more! The biggest surprise is that you can also get some delicious ice cream! It's perfect on a summer day as you are wandering the Hood River Fruit Loop or any season. The ice cream is soft serve, which is my fave. They have a shaded area next to the shop where you can sit and enjoy your treat. Check their website because in the off-season, they are typically open Fridays-Sundays only. It's a fun 6 as with most antique shops, you never know what treasure you'll find. And looking is just as much fun!

The Tuesday night auction is how I have stocked every new apartment that I've ever had, with NICE stuff: a full matching set of vintage looking China, pots and pans, my curtains, a small rug, my dresser, my bed..... everything for extremely cheap. Seriously! Even got a set of auxiliary fog lights for my car, new in box for a couple of dollars. My favorite purse, necklace, and also winter coat are from this place. I've been shopping here for over 10 years and I just adore this local business. BJ, the owner, is one of the most authentic and unique people that I know, and is an incredible auctioneer. So... shout out to migratory millennials and those seeking unique and cheap house wear, antiques, vintage, collectibles, furniture, funky jewelry, whatever. Swing up to BJ's Auction after you visit McMenamins Edgefield, it's totally worth the drive.

To begin,…read morethe whole of the town is decorated during the holiday season, so the environment around the store is magical. The downtown strip is a joy to walk down, and folks shopping for antiques will be pleased to see that there are a number of related businesses nearby (furniture, home goods, specialty items, even another antiques shop!) Inside the shop, everything is actually what you think of when you think "antique." Sometimes I feel that the places I try to shop for vintage/antique items are too polished now. I love the almost museum-like feeling of a shop that is crowded and full from floor to ceiling with treasures to be uncovered. The merchandise itself is VERY fairly priced. I found several beautiful pieces of jewelry for just a couple bucks each (a broach and two strands of fake pearls) and the higher quality jewelry available for purchase (i.e. real stones and pure metals) were also incredibly reasonable. I was blown away, actually, by the pricing. I have found that the thrift/vintage stores in downtown Portland are willing to gouge prices and are barely worth the work sometimes. This was NOT the case here, and I highly recommend you make the drive-- the bang-for-your-buck pays off. The person at the checkout was very friendly. She greeted us when we entered (and greeted every person who entered the store), was sweet and chatty during checkout, and didn't lose her cool even when a rowdy bunch of kids and a couple with a barkey dog were running around. This is the best antique experience I have had in ages, and I am so glad I went! I will return again.

Everything from clothes and shoes, to toys, electronics, phone accessories, fabric, anime tchotchkes, games, collectibles, DVDs and probably a whole lot more than we missed, can be found on display, tucked away, or hanging over head. We've already resolved to do some of this year's Christmas shopping here, that's for sure! And that's not even getting into all the food, desserts and beverages available here. My Spanish is too poor, and my wandering eye too unfocused to describe all the wonders I saw being served up, so I won't even try. Except the grilled corn on the cob. I saw that, I wanted it, I didn't get it, and I will rectify this travesty during a future visit.
