So many great reviews here, and I had such high hopes, and I was really looking forward to…read moresurprising my husband with a flight on our honeymoon. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, but here's what did: I called to make a reservation, and the phone wasn't answered. Ian called me back not too long after though. I asked some questions, talked about the groupon pricing, made a reservation, everything was good. I had 2 days in Niagara, and Ian suggested we make a reservation on Thursday instead of Friday because flights get cancelled a lot for weather, and that gives us a second chance. Such a good suggestion! This is where the positive ends. I get an e-mail a few days later that says "Hi Bethany, when we made the initial booking i was taking information while in my car...we were trying to decide on the 12th or 13th. Turns out the schedule is full on the 12th, so I made it for 13th at 1pm". This wouldn't have been a big deal, except A. He told me to book the 12th instead of the 13th. B. Tell me you're in the car, and not at a computer and will get back with me when you know for sure. Our conversation gave me 0 indication what I was not making an actual reservation. C. We had a flight out of Buffalo at 2pm, so a 1pm flight does not work, and he knew this D. Call me and discuss the options, don't just change the reservation and hope it works. I asked if we could change to a much earlier flight on the 13th, 8:30 am, and Ian wrote back "8:30am would be perfect". Of course, nothing with Ian is ever set in stone, or an actual reservation, and he thinks he can just change things and do whatever he wants, even though you've already paid and made plans, so then this happens: "Hi Bethany, originally you had scheduled the flight for today, and then changed for Friday! (I did not, he lied to me about a reservation and forced me to change). Can you come for 10:15 tomorrow (remember, we are scheduled for 8:30am because we have a flight) as out plane is arriving from Toronto and I don't want to keep you hanging around the airport if it's delayed leaving Toronto" So, no he's scheduled us, then said he was fully booked. Scheduled us again, then changed the time the day before because , I guess, he was booked again? The message above, via text, is all the info I got. I respond with, unfortunately 10:30 doesnt work, we have a flight to catch, we are scheduled for 8:30, what happened? And can we do a flight tonight instead? "Normally we have another plane...it had a mishap" and then adds "we would not have been able to fly today because of weather/low clouds". Apparently he thinks that the weather not being ideal makes up for the fact that he hasn't called to talk to me, hasn't apologized, hasn't offered an option that works for us, and has had a "mishap" with his plane..yeah.. that feels great! Since Ian is not willing to fly later that day to accommodate us, and since he can't make our reservation time work, we are now stuck with a 10:30 flight and rushing to the airport. But no, then we get a text in the morning that says, "Good Morning Bethany. The Chief Pilot reports that the weather is not co-operating, for air tours, and the cloud ceiling is coming down. We cannot go flying this morning, I am refunding 100% of your ticket purchase". This, of course, is not his fault. However, I received this text at 7am, and we are scheduled to fly at 10:30am. My husband has a private pilot license, so I am 100% sure that the weather can change in 3.5 hours, and calling to cancel 3.5 hours ahead of time is crazy. We go about our day, grab breakfast, and head outside. We immediately see several other small single engine planes flying! Which means the weather had changed, or we were lied to. So I texted Ian at 9:22am "Hey Ian, still the same? We are seeing planes and helicopters out. It looks so nice! Had to check!". NO ANSWER. So I texted again at 10:09 "Any updates?" NO ANSWER. So I called him, and then called the main line for the company. NO ANSWER. We even drove to the Hangar and there was no one around. Which either means they just said "Screw it we are going home" or they were actually flying with other people and lied to us. I never received an answer to those texts, and never got a call back. 5 days later I still had not received a refund, so I texted, and of course got an IMMEDIATE response, because he always responded fairly quickly except when we were supposed to be flying. 10 Days after our cancelled flight, still no refund. I text again and Ian says he will call Square. I never hear anything. 14 days later, I reach out to my card company who says I need a copy of the credit receipt. I reached out to Ian for this, no answer. 16 days later, still no answer, still no credit receipt, still no refund. This guy jerked us around, lied to us, and now won't issue a refund. I know all of the other reviews are positive, and I hope no one else has an experience like I did.

And kept us entertained for hours with his many stories hehe :D He was also a very responsible driver *thumbs up* and I really appreciate all the times that he helped us carry out the truck-load of wines that we all bought, much thanks! Great choices on the wineries/vineyards! Learned so much about the history of each place we visited, the behind-the-scenes, and a lot of fun facts about Niagara-on-the-lake! We visited 6 places in total... each had their own unique stories and very unique-tasting wines! Overall, a very memorable day :) 1. Diamond Estate Winery - One of the 2 wineries in Niagara that offer Cabernet Sauvignon Icewine #tasty! - Best known for: 20 Bees, Fresh, Dan Aykroyd Wine XD 2. Trius Winery at Hillibrand - Huge winery w/ a top notch in-house restaurant... amazing food/service/ambiance! - Best known for: Icewine :D but it can range from $85 - $200 o_o ** Lunch at Riverbend Inn & Vineyard ** - Included in our wine tour, a 3 course lunch, overlooking the beautiful vineyard :D - I had arugula salad, mushroom risotto, and warm caramelized bread pudding #yum! 3. Riverview Cellars Winery - Small family-owned winery... I can really feel the passion from the owner :) - Best known for: Fontana series! Welcome to the #FontanaFanClub 4. Konzelmann Estate Winery - German wine maker... wines tend to be sweeter :) - Best known for: Peach wine :D 5. Small Talk Vineyards - It used to be Stonechurch Winery but they are re-branding to Small Talk - Best know for: Small Talk series, Top Secret (white wine blend of blanc de noir) 6. Between The Line Family Estate Winery - Unfortunately, they don't sell any of their wines at LCBO... so, MUST VISIT :D - Best known for (according to me!): Cabernet Franc Icewine (it tasted like strawberries, and best paired w/ blue cheese!) I'm looking forward to do this again during winter/Christmas times... hopefully they will have icewine tours available!! #loveicewine #superexcited #alcoholicsunite #toomuchfun Until next time :)

Now I have been going up to Canada for wine tasting for close to 15 years but never did an actual tour, and after doing this one, I would say you should experience it as least once. Booking was seamless, as I called and they were able to look up the info on the gift certificate. We were told to meet them at their hub for pickup and we would go from there. When we got there they were very accomodating getting us registered and having some cheese and chocolate to start. We met up with our Tour Guide Kim and driver Rob. Both were excellent throughout the whole trip. We got teamed up with two Bridal shower parties and two other couples for 20 people on the tour altogether. Which really was enough people to have a good time as a group while still remaining intimate. We were taken to 3 wineries, Diamond Estates, Cattail Creek, and Konzelmann Estate Winery. They were basically a large, small and medium winery. The time we had at each place was really just about perfect. We had a private tasting with a host from the wineries filling us in on some background on the history of the wineries themselves, the growing region, or the specific wine we were tasting. Then we had some time to check out the shops and buy some wines (or taste a bit more if you're a lush like myself). They kept an eye on our bottles as we then headed off to the next place. The tour itself lasted from 1:30 to about 5:15pm and while I actually didn't know how long it was going to be until we got there, and I then thought wow thats a little long for three wineries, really the old saying hung true and time flew by as we had so much fun. So even as a seasoned wine taster I thought the tour was fantastic. Could be just as fun for someone new to the experince who wants to devle deeper into the world of wine.

Even if Aunt Jemima hadn't been cancelled a few years ago, I'd probably be officially switching to…read morereal maple syrup after this excursion. One of my cousins has a bit of an obsession with natural sweeteners and scheduled a trip to White Meadows for us last weekend. It was a bit of a drive from our Finger Lakes Airbnb that involved a literal border crossing, but honestly was worth the trek. I wasn't sure what to expect beyond a deluge of maple leaf signs/flags, but I definitely left with an appreciation of the insane amount of work required to make this without using mass-produced corn syrup. We'd scheduled a tour, subsequent syrup tasting and charcuterie board for a 1:30pm start time. Not knowing what drama we might encounter at the border (there was absolutely none - deliciously uneventful; this isn't the border anyone gets particularly riled up about), we got here super early and had ample time to look around the gift shop. I barely considered the implications of the tariffs and didn't bother buying any maple syrup - understandably when I went to the farm's website later, it indicated they're not shipping to the US right now. That decision will haunt me for weeks and maybe months to come. Our guide was Nathan, who was an absolute superstar. I can't recommend this guy highly enough. He was engaging and knew how to talk about the science and concepts behind maple syrup and its cultivation on the farm in a way that was easily digestible but also very in-depth and informative. We were in a pretty inquisitive group, and he fielded a myriad of questions ably; I also liked that once or twice, he didn't know the answer and just said that - sadly a rarity in this day and age. But that didn't happen very often; Nathan knows maple syrup. The tour consists of a 10 to 15-minute discussion in one of the prep rooms near the gift shop (where most of the equipment and technical terminology is broken down), followed by a 10-minute tractor ride to the woods on the other side of the property to the tree-tapping area where the majority of the tour takes place, followed by a ride back to the starting point and a five-minute tasting of the four syrups made on the farm. One piece of constructive feedback - there were several young children there who were honestly a bit of a distraction. This is probably school age kid friendly but there were some very antsy toddlers (and even an infant) who just weren't old enough for this. I'd put a disclaimer up on the website that this isn't really appropriate for pups that young so the parents know ahead of time not to bother booking it. It is really wild seeing how much goes into creating maple syrup on a mom-and-pop farm like this. The intricate weaving of the taps/tubes throughout the forest leading to a storage tank out of site, and seeing how aggressive you have to be to take advantage of the very narrow window that sap can be harvested? Had no idea. If nothing else, you'll definitely come away from this being blown away by the syrup trade and the immense work required. You just never think about this stuff when you're at the diner pouring (not real) syrup onto your pancakes. The tasting and charcuterie were really good too - if you're already here, I'd spring for the charcuterie so you can sample the syrups and assorted meats/cheeses on a grander scale than just the tasting. The only annoying part were the yellowjackets constantly trying to get in on the fun (which I found out in Canada are more commonly referred to as wasps). I honestly have no idea how they can fix or alleviate that issue since by definition you're putting sweet/sugary stuff out on picnic tables, but might be worth troubleshooting down the line. Absolutely would recommend if you happen to be in the general Upstate NY area and have your passport handy. But make sure you actually buy the syrup there - I have no idea when I'm going to get a chance to sup on the Golden grade of syrup again.

Our first course was a green salad with currants. That was delicious actually. I really liked the currants. The next course was a choice of either chicken or squash (not many options!). I had chosen the squash but because of my food allergies they ended up giving me a mushroom dish. I love mushrooms so I didn't mind. That dish was actually quite tasty. The last course was a dessert which was a seasonal crumble with ice cream. They gave me a shaved coconut & berries dish due to my food allergies. The food was okay but my mind wasn't blown. I tried a bit of both the red wine & white wine but didn't like the taste. Then again I'm not much of wine drinker. Service: Some of the servers looked like the would rather be anywhere else than at the event. My server was great though, he was very attentive to me because of my food allergies. However, one of the servers dropped a carafe of boiling hot coffee on the ground. It hit me a bit, the guy next to me got some in his eye & another guy across from us was also hit. I was not happy about that. The server was really apologetic & went to get some ice. Took her forever but she finally found some & gave it to the people who were affected. I smelled like coffee after that. Ambiance: The vineyard is really lovely. We got there just before the sun started setting & it made for some amazing views. The dining hall is nice as well with it's high ceilings & floor to ceiling windows. The group washrooms were clean & pretty also. I'm not sure if I would come here again on my own. My impression of the food & service is tainted by the coffee being spilled on us. They were really apologetic & everything but sometimes first impressions are everything. I'm not often in the Niagara on the Lake area & if I were I wouldn't make a special trip to come here given my past experience here.

Our guide Tim picked us up at the Fallsview Casino, which was convenient for us, before we picked up one more group of 2. The small group of us (4 plus Tim) was just the right size. Tim was very knowedgeable both about wine and the Niagra region. He took the time to get to know each of us and what tastes were like in wine. We stopped at 4 wineries (all were equally delicious, although I'd have to say my favorite was the red Ice Wine from Vineland) and each time Tim brought us inside, introduced us to the staff, and helped offer suggestions based on what he had learned about us. We also learned the proper way to taste at our very first stop. This was a welcome change from other tours we have done in the past where the tour bus simply stops in the parking lot while you go inside, sample, then come out when you are ready to leave. This was much more personable and made for an excellent tour experience. In addition to the 4 wineries we stopped at the Upper Canada Cheese company to sample their fine cheeses, as well as stopped mid-day in Jordan Village for lunch. The tour was well structured and you had plenty of time to shop after each tasting as well if you wanted to (although none of the wineries/staff were pushy in any way whatsoever.) Overall it was a great day, great experience, and I would certainly consider other future tours with Discovery.
