Fox & Turtle! I think this might be the first time I eat at a country clubhouse or even heard of Itasca city. For this review, as part of the restaurant week, we ordered the Chopped Salad, Baked Goat Cheese, Chicken "Lombardi," Brown Butter Cake, Key Lime Pie, and the Flourless Chocolate Cake. I would rate this meal as 4.4/5. The goat cheese is served with garlic bread and the Pomodoro sauce, and it was delicious. Definitely worth getting it to share or have it all to yourself. To me, the Chicken "Lombardi" was ok, wasn't bad, but also nothing to talk about. The breaded chicken was stale and soaky. Now, the dessert! For sure, the best part of this was the Brown Butter Cake. Of the 3 desserts, this one triumphed and stood high above the key lime pie and the chocolate cake. What a great hidden gem! I'm not often in the Itasca area and most definitely didn't know where the country club was, but Yelp worked its magic and led me to Fox & Turtle for a great lunch! Unless you're familiar with the club you really wouldn't know this restaurant is here, but you definitely don't need to be a member to pay this restaurant a visit - it's open to the public! It's not visible from the neighborhood street it's off of, but there are signs at the entrance so that's helpful when driving down the long driveway back to the club. The Fox & Turtle entrance is located on the left side of the club - just go in the door and down the stairs and that's where this beauty is. The decor is super cool and from what I could tell it looks like they grew their own beer! I met Kate S. for lunch and we were seated at a table by the window that overlooked he golf course. They have a huge outdoor patio with seating as well. At lunch time they offer a pick-2 menu for $12. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. I went with the soup of the day which was chicken and wild rice and then the chicken Caesar wrap. Food came out promptly and our waitress was nice and kept our waters filled. I absolutely loved the soup! It was creamy and filled with fresh ingredients. IMO, you can't really mess up a chicken Caesar wrap, but they definitely got it right. I was surprised by how large the wrap was! At first I thought it was weird that croutons were in the wrap as well, but I kinda liked the crunch. I'd consider this a hidden gem. Located in the lower level at the Itasca Country Club, Fox and Turtle doesn't attract people who just happen to be walking by. It's more of a destination spot. They've been open to the public for about a year (I certainly didn't realize it had been that long). I wanted to visit and so we made our way to downtown Itasca a few weeks back. There plenty of parking in their private lot which is nice. You have to either walk down some stairs or take an elevator to get down to the dining level. When we first walked in, it seemed we may have come in the wrong door. We keep walking and eventually came upon the host stand. We were quickly seated next to the window facing the golf course. This worked for me. The trees looked beautiful and even though the weather wasn't quite beautiful, the greens were. Our server was excellent! She explained everything and was quick to anticipate our needs. I would go back just for Bridgette! We had burgers and a steak sandwich. The hubs loved the burger and I ate almost every bite of my sandwich. The dressed arugula on the sandwich had a nice bite. Their menu had quite a few things I want to try. What a great find! The food was awesome! Ordered grilled calamari which was so tender and yummy! My husband and I shared our entrées. He ordered the chicken mac, I ordered the skirt steak sandwich. Yummy! The service was great. We even left our doggie bag on the table and our waitress ran it out to us. The only thing I would like to see them do is have a beer list. They have a wine list and whiskey list. We were not seated in eye shot of the tappers, and our server could only name a few. read more

Great food, friendly service and view of a golf course...oh my! What a perfect Friday afternoon lunch spot in one of my favorite areas, Itasca. I met Jacqueline B. here for lunch and I will most definitely be back again soon. Though I was afraid I wasn't entering at the correct spot when I had first gotten here, a previous Yelper had photographed the "cute main entrance" so I was relieved when walking up to Fox & Turtle. What a cool place! Once I entered I was seated right away next to big windows facing the Itasca Country Club golf course/outdoor patio seating. The restaurant itself has a classy atmosphere because of the Country Club but resembles a hip brewery at the same time. Jacqueline B. and I had taken advantage of the Pick-2 for $12 lunch options available from Monday-Friday 11am-3pm. Of course, I had to try the Mac & Chicken with the Soup Of The Day: cream of chicken with wild rice. The wait for our meals was short and our waitress was sweet and attentive. I honestly would have came back for dinner the same day to try a heavier meal and perhaps a drink! So obviously for the most exciting part of this review...the Mac & Chicken. This was a hell of a lot tastier than I thought it was going to be. The cheese was tangy, there was juicy white pieces of chicken throughout, the serving size was actually pretty large (I had to take a to-go box home!) plus they used my favorite spiral noodles. Can you tell I eat a lot of mac & cheese... All in all, I appreciated the service, the view and especially the rather inexpensive lunch option available. It was honestly a super satisfying visit! Though I'm not a golfer in any way, shape or form, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing the boyfriend here to play a few holes and grab something to eat on a nice day! The guys smelled wings so they ordered the boneless wings which were much enjoyed by all and served with celery, carrots and dipping sauces. I had the rigatoni bolognese which I can't say enough good things about. Maybe the best I've had outside of a Little Italy joint. Two of our members had the mile high meatloaf which was a huge success and I can't wait to go back so I can have that. We've decided that each time we're in town, we'll spend Wednesday here. Saw their gluten free menu during Restaurant Week and wanted to try it since their GF menu was so vast, but didn't make it out there then. I went with 4 friends last night and it happened to be their birthday celebration, so there were many appetizers, a few dinner items, and Tito's drinks fro $3. We ordered off the special menu and their regular menu. We split some appetizers (GF wings, GF chips & guac, and GF pot roast nachos). For dinner I built a burger (w/ a gluten free bun) and had a side of fries. Our waiter had knowledge in cross-contamination and was very helpful. He assured me the fries were fried separately since the chef's daughter was also Celiac (why they have such a large GF menu). Due to the celebration, they were slammed and it took a while to get our food, but over all I was happy with the meal. Very nice restaurant in the Itasca Country Club We were seated ant a very nice table with a window looking over the golf course. I had the NE Clam Chowder and a 1/2 prime rib sandwich, both very enjoyable. Wifee had the chopped salad which was very large, I would up eating 1/2 of it which was great because my lunch was quite filling. I'll be glad to go back there at the next opportunity. read more

Came here for restaurant week - had high expectations. Food was good...not great. Our dip tasted a little stale. Salmon was good but the spinach with it was soooo salty we couldn't eat it. The boys got steak and veggies - steak was good but the veggies were literally the frozen gross mix from a bag steamed. No one ate them. Calamari was good. Food took entirely too long. First time here... Although the staff was very nice, our server made several mistakes. 1. Took the wrong order. 2. Didn't believe me so when the manager came over he realized she had misunderstood. 3. Charged us for the incorrect order instead of the correct one. 4. Even when taking the correct order made yet another mistake on it (I ordered medium, she ordered medium-well). She was sweet and apologetic, I was almost embarrassed for her. I thought I overheard the manager say he was going to void it but nope, was still charged. Then my guy ordered the Mexican burger, medium, but arrived as medium-rare, the jalapeño barely had taste (for those that like jalapeños know they're at least a little spicy) and half of the sweet potato chips were stale/soggy instead of crisp. The drinks, the old-fashioned and the drunken golfer, were subpar, even compared to airline premixed drinks. Not sure if this was an off day for this place but don't plan on finding out. Food is great for suburban food. Deducting one star because quite honestly, the service is less than desirable. We've been here twice, and each time, the wait staff just drags their feet. One of my favorite foods here is the crispy eggplant salad, which consists of a tower of eggplant, mozzarella cheese, and arugula with balsamic vinaigrette. Seriously one of the best eggplant dishes I've ever had. For dinner, we had the Itasca chicken, which is a whole roasted chicken with roasted potatoes. Also quite tasty. Definitely go on Tuesday when the Itasca chicken is half off. read more

Don't be put off by the unusual exterior that this appears to be a pub in the basement of a country club. I showed up on a snowy Monday night and it wasn't busy but still had a lively feel. The service was great and I kept it simple with a Caesar salad and spaghetti and meatballs, both of which were fresh and terrific. This is casual dining below a golf course facility. Cloth napkins and table cloths. Our waitress was Victoria and she was exceptional. The French onion soup is one of the best I've ever had. Plenty of onion and topped with a large portion of cheese. The entrees were a good size portion, prepared well and with good taste. The biggest draw back was the noise level. Sweet lil pub and restaurant in the Itasca country club. We came randomly one night for food since they offered vegetarian options for my friend. They have daily specials for drinks and food. We came on a Sunday and it was all day $5 bloody Mary's. I had the 12h slow roast pork nachos, soooo good. The bbq brisket sandwich and spicy chicken sandwich was also super tasty. There was one of the best veggie burgers I've ever tried. I would give this place 5 stars if the service was a little more attentive and if the prices were more appropriate but otherwise it was a great find. read more

So my husband and I were looking for a new place to try for our anniversary dinner. We saw this place up on restaurant.com and had some credit to use so we got a gift certificate for $25 off $50 or more. We went in and it's a cute little place. The décor and ambiance were nice and inviting. There's a nice view of the golf course where we sat in front of the windows. We had high hopes for this place. Since we had a gift certificate we splurged. I had a glass of wine, we both had steak and a dessert. The food was a let down. I had the filet medallions and they were alright with the toppings that came on them, however, I asked for a Medium cook and it was pretty well done almost NO pink at all on the steak. My husband had the skirt steak and had the same dilemma as mine, not cooked to his liking. The veggies that came with the steak were both bland, asparagus and broccoli. The au jus sort of saved them but not much. And the mashed potatoes had no flavor to them. The crème brulee was pretty good. We went on a Wednesday and it was half priced house wines, so I asked for a house Moscato. At the end of our dinner I let her know about our gift certificate and the manager came back and told us that they have nothing to do with this website and they don't know how they were put on it. And this was the second one that they received that day. It was a mistake and so they wouldn't except our certificate. Gave us nothing at all off our bill and this certificate was the reason we came to this place. How was this our fault that your restaurant was put up on the website? And if this was the second one you received, why didn't you call them right away to tell them to take it down? Our whole situation could have potentially been avoided. I thought they could have given us something for the "misunderstanding" for good customer service but no. Then I see that the wine is full price when we get the bill and I asked why and our server said the Moscato isn't a house wine. So she did not inform me that it wasn't a house wine when I ordered which she should have. I ended up paying $12 for a glass of wine that wasn't $12 great for 1 glass. Needless to say our bill was much more then we expected for not that great of an experience or food. My wife and I recently went to Fox & Turtle for the first time. The weather was great that day so we sat outside on the patio. Let's start with the hostess - she greeted us warmly at the door and asked about our experience as we left the restaurant. Our waitperson, Johnna, came to our table in short order to take our drink order. We asked Johnna a few questions about the menu and placed our order based upon the descriptive feedback. The food was great! While we ate and enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere, Johnna checked in on us, refilled our drinks and allowed us to wrap up at our pace. We never felt rushed. Johnna is the most polite waitperson we have encountered in a long time and a great asset to the restaurant! read more

This place is a hidden gem! Came here for a quick lunch last Saturday. It's attached to the Itasca Country Club and was pretty hard to find having never been here. Once inside it's a big pretty cool space with lots of windows overlooking the golf course. They had a huge draft beer list and even were brewing some of there own craft beers in the front of the building. The menu had a lot and many things looked good but I was just in the mood for a regular cheeseburger. I mean it was a pretty good burger though. My only criticism is that it came without any condiments on it and we had to ask for ketchup and mustard which they brought out in little ramekins which was sort of awkward. Also Dave noticed that the onion wasn't a red onion which was stated in the description. Fresh cut fries it came with were perfect. Staff we interacted with were friendly. Prices seemed a little high but also quality seemed there so idk yet on that one. We will definitely be back. Looks like they turn the patio into so great outdoor dining area when the weather improves which I am all about. read more

Went with a date for late drinks and a bite. The service was excellent, the food was excellent. We had the fish tacos and some calamari. The beer list is very good and we enjoyed some excellent Bourbon County Stout. The only issue we had was a drunk member of the club (local HS football coach) a few tables away. He kept belching as loud as he could, making disparaging remarks about Muslims, and randomly yelling DONALD TRUMP! at the top of his lungs. It got to be quite annoying after a while. I gave them two stars because the food and service was excellent but I won't be going back again having to wonder if we'll run into that... guy. read more

Waze takes you to an apartment complex south of the train tracks; put in the corner of orchard and elm (or orchard and walnut) for an easier time of finding the parking lot. It is a casual, relaxes, spacious, restaurant. Family friendly but targeted at adults. Reservations via Open Table or phone (We would not have needed them Sunday night).Great beer list and full bar. Service was terrific on a Sunday evening. Good menu with several fish entrees, steak, chicken, but also burgers, sandwiches, salads, appetizers, desserts. Working through my bookmarks the best that I can. Finally made it over here. Went on a Friday evening. This place was packed but we were able to snag a booth. Ordered grilled calamari, fish tacos, a salad with shrimp + avocado, a filet special, and their "Mile-high meatloaf". FYI:This place is incredibly noisy inside. They really don't have any elements to dampen the noise so conversation can be difficult. I wanted to try the Itasca chicken but was told by the waitress that it took 40 minutes. They should put that on their menu because had I of known this I could have ordered it at the same time as we ordered our drinks and appetizers. On to the food.......It was all disappointing. The fish in the fish tacos was cooked to oblivion. The calamari was basically swimming in balsamic so it became a one note item. The fillet was supposed to come with gnocchi but it didn't. It was more like spaetzle and I was told that the sauce tasted like tomato soup. I had the misfortune of ordering the meatloaf since I couldn't get the chicken. It was not good. Nowhere near a mile high. It was a slab of meatloaf plopped on some potatoes with some dried onion things on top. It had bacon on it. Here is the thing. The bacon was almost raw in one place and was also burnt black on the same piece. Now I owned a restaurant and I would go ballistic if I caught a cook sending that out of the kitchen no matter how busy they may have been. I called the waitress over and showed her. I told her to take it back to the kitchen and show the cook because there is no excuse for sending that out to a customer. I don't know if she did but a manager came over to apologize and offer to replace it or give our table a desert but I just wanted out at that point, so I passed on both. He did take it off of the bill. So many good reviews of this place and I wonder what went wrong. A new cook? Kitchen turnover? People evidently like it as based on the positive reviews. I can only share my experience, didn't want to turn it into a rant. I really have to update my review. This place rocks, so much so that we are thinking of joining Itasca CC and we already belong to a CC closer to home? We have been here with our friends that belong to the Club and OMG the food here is off the charts for the price. Their pulled pork nachos, the Itasca chicken and the seabass are all delish. Presentation is lovely and huge ass portions. Tons of sandwich options including an awesome skirt steak with arugala, mushrooms, cheese on a great soft roll. Home cut fries (ask them to cook them light). Great atmosphere, kinda clubby but industrial too. They have an ice skating rink outside of the restaurant! Hello, how cool is that? They also have bocce ball! Again, how cool is that. I love the vibe of this place, the food and the staff. Last time we were here with our friends our waiter was Patrick Kane look alike and he was so nice and helpful about the food. Golf course is beautiful and they have added platform tennis and are redoing the pool deck. Well, hello summertime! This is a hidden little secret tucked away in Itasca. The staff is very friendly and the manager takes the time to do table touches to make sure you are enjoying yourself! The drinks are delicious, may I recommend the Vixen martini!!! The chips and guacamole is a delicious starter and the chips come seasoned. I also enjoyed chicken club sandwich on a brioche bun--yum! This new restaurant is just starting to get its feet on the ground. A complete overhaul and renovation of the existing space happened in less than a year and it is remarkable the improvements in the aesthetics and quality of food. The appetizers are phenomenal (onion rings and pretzel are awesome) and there is a nice variety to chose from. Menu is clean and easy to read. Wide selection of salads and sandwiches. Lots of craft beers on tap too! Every time I have dined there I have received excellent service from the waitresses, bartenders, and bus boys.Their whole staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the managers Johnny and Jason always take make it a priority to say "Hello". read more

I came here with a group of girlfriends and we LOVED the place and will definitely be coming back. We had the chips and guacamole, pot roast nachos, turkey platter (the special), prime rib dip, and bread pudding for dessert. On the evening we came, it was too hot to eat on the patio but the view of the golf course from inside was awesome! Definitely not what you would expect coming to a county club for dinner. It's a bit off the beaten path but a GREAT find! So glad we tried it! We will definitely be coming back again soon. When their banquet venue opens it will be a great event location.
