I'm so happy that Yelp has crossed the pond to allow me to review one of my favorite pubs in Jolly Ole. If you're wondering how this Yank - by way of the Far East - would know of this out-of-the-way place in a suburb of Bath, well, that's because I have a longtime friend who married a Brit, and his parents live in a renovated rectory in the quaint town of Wellow. They were kind enough to let me visit them, and this is their local watering hole. This is truly England to me.
It's a small 16th-century pub complete with a fireplace, a pool table, a separate dining room and even a skittle-ball alley. The beer on tap is indeed thirst-quenching, but they also provide a mighty fine ploughman's lunch or if you prefer, bangers and mash, or if you are feeling politically incorrect, you can have "faggots"...which to us Yanks, are Spam-like meatballs. They have event nights like Irish Session Nights on Saturdays where you hear aspiring local musicians warble a tune for us to accompany with our semi-drunken voices.
If I lived in Wellow, I'd be like Norm. "Hey everybody, it's Ed" "EDDDD!" Surely they would know my name by now. Ah the memories. If the Pump Room at the Roman Baths is full up, I highly suggest you motor it to the Fox & Badger, laddie.
