It's hard to believe music I grew up listening to is now classic rock. LOL They do tend to play more songs from the 70s and 80s than the 90s. Even though I was an adult in the 90s, it's still nice to hear a song from that decade thrown in there every now and then. The 90s music they play is usually what was considered as alternative back then... bands like Creed and Collective Soul. Just like the new music on The Big Ape, they do tend to have certain songs they play all the time. Considering they are covering three decades of classic hits and not just current music, I'd think they'd mix it up a little more than they do, but I love the music, so I don't complain. I also like the fact they play really long blocks of music before they play commercials. I don't listen to music in the car all that much because if I'm alone and driving, I want to make sure I'm concentrating on the road. If I'm with the hubby and he's driving, he and I like to talk. I mostly listen at home while he's at work and I'll stream it via my MacBook. Whenever we get in our pool, I have a Beats Pill and I'll stream the channel via my iPhone and bluetooth it to the Pill. Most of the new music today is pretty awful. Thank goodness there's still a good radio station around!

I have all three stations saved in my car, but I rarely if ever listen to X1029. They do play new stuff, but it seems like the music that is played really isn't in the rock genre at all. The songs can be heard on the pop or even hip hop stations in the city. I'm not picky, nor am I close-minded to new music, but I want to hear new rock and rock from the past 10-15 years. I don't want to hear the same thing that can be heard on every other station in Jacksonville.

But I still listened to it. When I was young, I also swore I'd always keep up with "today's music," and I'd never become one of those parents or grandparents who despised what the youth were listening to. Boy, was I even wrong!! I absolutely cannot stand the majority of the nonsense these "artists" (I use the term loosely) are putting out today. Eminem is a rapper... I'm not real sure what the hell these people like Nikki with the blue/pink/green hair think they are selling. Pop, for the most part, doesn't even sound like pop music anymore. I'm not even really sure what category to place the majority of today's "music." Personally, I'd put it in a category I call Crap! There is the occasional new music I do like from people like Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, and even Miley Cyrus. I even hear a song once in a blue moon from someone I don't know that I actually like, it's just not very often. Mostly I listen to 96.9, The Eagle. 70s, 80s, and 90s. Now that's music! Not to mention that years ago they were playing Filipino-American group One Voice while the other station didn't. They play a variety of music from ballads to pop to salsa to merengue to bachata to reggaeton to pitbull (if you consider his stuff Spanish...or even music.. "Mami got an ass like a donkey, with a monkey" WHAT? haha). The only thing I hate about this station is sometimes they talk too much, and the signal is sometimes weak.
