Had I read no reviews before coming here, I'd have wondered why all of Greater Lafayette isn't eating here. We had dinner here and the entire experience was fantastic. Reservations were simple to make online. We were greeted with a menu and an excellent wine and cocktail list. With very few other diners, we were treated to the best seat in the house with a view of flowering spring trees through neogothic windows. Another couple was enjoying a glass of wine on the porch, while another was exploring the interior of this fantastic Victorian mansion. Service and ambience were both amazing thoughout -- this is truly a unique dining experience. We had the langoustine cakes and the soup of the day, both great starts bursting with flavor and texture. We had the hangar steak and pork chop for entrees, paired with a well structured Zinfandel. The pork chop was particularly outstanding, owing both to the quality of the ingredient and expert preparation, paired with just-sweet enough parsnip puree, rainbow carrots, blistered grapes, and carmelized onion. The hangar steak was impeccably presented, cooked to temperature, and most important, a very delicious cut of well aged beef. For dessert we had a lemon-lavender mousse bombe, again as well presented as it was delicious. The tart lemon pop rocks on top were tge perfect touch and sheer nostalgic pleasure. We finished our evening with a self tour of the mansion, and carried home half of our amply portioned meals to enjoy as leftovers. Lafayette's best kept secret. Had a 5:45 PM reservation for 6 on Saturday evening. Great ambiance, decor, etc. Food quality and portions were also very good. One minor food note: a previous review said the "house chips" were homemade. That was NOT true for us. My son got a burger and his chips were straight out of a bag. The 3 star rating is nearly 100% service-based. SLOW. Adult beverages took way too long to arrive. 1 person in our group ordered a piece of almond cake for dessert and it took so long we had to request it to go. I had very high expectations based on prior reviews of their second Sunday brunch but was sadly disappointed. Although the service was great, the food left a lot to be desired. Most of the meals we were served were cold or lukewarm and also very bland. We sent back an order of biscuits and gravy that was clearly not checked before being sent out because the dish was cold and so were the contents. The pickle on the Bloody Mary we ordered had the consistency of a mashed potato and the mimosas were extremely sweet with barely any champagne. The rest of the home was beautiful but most rooms when looking around were completely unfurnished so it felt like some of the spirit of the home was lost. read more

Attended their Father's Day Brunch. The mansion offers a unique and beautiful dining venue in a historical setting. The brunch was a flat rate for all you can eat and all non-alcoholic drinks included. That being said, I feel that the price was a little on the high side. Perhaps including one alcoholic drink per would compensate. The food was very good though and had a good variety of hot breakfast items as well as pastries. One complaint is that they had a nice selection of bagels sitting out with cream cheese and lox; however, there was no way to toast your bagel. read more

My wife and I visit West Lafayette frequently to visit our daughter, granddaughter and SIL. Lately we have had difficulty finding new restaurants to eat in that offer outdoor dining (we still try and take COVID precautions), so when my daughter mentioned this restaurant we all agreed that it was worth a visit, even though some prior Yelp reviews were negative. I needn't have worried, however; we all had a nice dinner in a pleasant environment. Fowler House is a mansion that you can do self-tours of; we walked through it to get back to street level after our meal (I made the mistake of climbing a lot of stairs to get to it at the beginning of the meal). The patio is pretty and when we visited at 5 PM on a Wednesday it was not crowded. The food was much better than some of the prior reviews would suggest. I really enjoyed my half-pound cheeseburger, which came with homemade potato chips (although no mention of these appeared on the menu). My five-year old granddaughter had a smaller burger from the kid's menu; hers actually came with some tasty fries (likewise not mentioned on the menu). My wife had the salmon and bacon sandwich, which she liked a lot as well. Both her portion and mine were generous enough that we each got a second meal out of our leftovers. My daughter seemed pleased with her chicken pot pie; my SIL had the crispy chicken and although he didn't rave about it, didn't make any complaints either. For dessert we all shared a chcolate marquise. Unlike the rest of us, my SIL is not a chocoholic, so he had just had a tiny taste; we divided the rest into quarters and all had a sufficient portion. It's quite rich (with a mousse-like consistency, though perhaps somewhat denser) and was served on a plate with a generous dollop of whipped cream. Prices are mildly high but not exorbitant. I never had the feeling that I was being ripped off. The service was fine as well. So, bottom line: a successful meal, one which I hope to do again the next time we're in town. Note: there are two businesses listed on Yelp: Fowler House Mansion and Fowler House Kitchen. To get the widest assortment of reviews, be sure to check both. Went for Father's Day brunch and was extremely disappointed. Poor service. I was not offered another glass of tea until I received the bill and at that point- we were just ready to leave. Side note- the drinks are $3, not $2 as the menu states. Although the kitchen seemed to be relatively slow, we waited for what seemed like ever on French toast, eggs Benedict, and two very small $5 parfaits (save your money). Even after the long wait, the French toast wasn't cooked through. I should've known that we were in for bad experience when the server greeted us with an excuse as to why she was 10 minutes late getting to our table. I had heard such good things about this place and was looking for somewhere unique to take my father to brunch. Needless to say, we won't be back. I recommend that you save your money and go somewhere else as well. read more

It's an interesting atmosphere with a mix of new decorations and old antiques that don't quite mesh together. The building is beautiful but it's not very cohesive. You can't actually drink in the original speakeasy and the drinks were rather weak charging high prices. It's alright but I wouldn't go out of your way to see it. read more

We went here for Easter brunch. The mansion itself is pretty cool. The tables and chairs are little cafeteria like. The service was good. The food was not good, just overall not good. Bland, cold and boring. We didn't ask to have anything redone because it was one of those situations where you knew it wasn't going to improve much. We recently got married at the Fowler House. I cannot say enough good things about the staff here. Everyone was ABSOLUTELY wonderful and so incredibly helpful (especially to this anxious bride). Karen made sure everything was setup perfectly and kept the day going on schedule. We also used the in-house catering. Well worth it! The food was DELICIOUS! Our families were very impressed. We also used their bartenders which just made the day wonderful. The guests (and us) loved the drinks the bartender made. We had 2 signature cocktails and those were slurped up! Our family recently held a memorial service at the Fowler House Mansion and it could not have been done any better. The lovely historic rooms were set exactly as requested, the decor was perfect, and the delicious food was presented beautifully in the gorgeous dining room. Karen, the manager, was so warm and accommodating from the moment we first went to look at the venue. She listened to what we wanted and contributed so many terrific ideas. She made great suggestions on the food and helped determine the right quantity for the number of guests. Although they were busy with many events on our weekend, the staff was helpful and friendly and everything went exactly to our schedule. I can't imagine a nicer place in Lafayette to hold a special occasion. read more

I was very disappointed in my lunch at The Fowler House. The house itself is beautiful and they encourage you to walk around and view it but the food is dismal. The lunch selections were limited so I ended up ordering a grilled cheese with a side of fruit. It's hard to mess that up but the chef grilled the bread on each side and then put a piece of cold cheese and cold tomato on it and served it. The cheese wasn't melted at all. In addition, even though we had a reservation, we were seated in a dark area that had no view whatsoever. Once our food arrived we didn't see our server again until she asked about dessert. Our drinks were never even refilled. I had been looking forward to dining there for some time so to say I was disappointed is an understatement. It's a beautiful restaurant but it's menu needs a serious makeover. Also, maybe a vegetarian option for a sandwich-even one. read more

The Fowler House hosted our daughter's wedding July 27. The venue was absolutely beautiful! There really is nothing like it in the area for receptions and parties. The historical details of the grand old house are incomparable. Karen and staff bent over backwards to make sure everything went smoothly! We have participated in both the Mother's Day and Father's Day Brunches held in the historic Fowler House Mansion. Just the setting alone is a remarkable dining experience. On Mother's Day, we sat on the covered patio near the fountain, watching downtown Lafayette traffic going by, relaxing and drinking mimosas. The food is great. Applewood smoked ham, french toast casserole, mini-quiches, cheese potatoes casserole for breakfast, and if you'd rather have lunch, bourbon chicken, and grilled bratwurst. Dessert and salad bars are included, and they are quality. The salad bar offers smoked salmon. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is expensive at $35 per adult and $15 for children. There were a lot less people at the Father's Day Brunch, but that may be because tradition is to have a cookout on that day, as Mother's Day is a dining out event. Parking is across the street and up an inclined drive, but there is handicapped curb parking and a lift if you can't do the stairs up to the front door. The brunch is all on one level. The brunch is served buffet style. Dress is casual (almost too casual, as I saw at the Mother's Day Brunch). read more

My wife and I were married at the Fowler House Mansion on June 1. From the one-of-a-kind venue that has been meticulously restored... To the highly professional and top-notch staff.... It was fairytale perfect. Matt Jonkman, president of the 1852 Foundation and purchaser of the mansion, takes great pride in the venue and it shows. We are still being told how amazing the mansion is. We had several attendees who spent most of their time at our wedding walking around and taking pictures of the mansion. It truly is extraordinary and unique place. The real superstar was Director of Operations, Karen Jenkinson. I can't say enough about her. I'm not sure a Yelp review could ever do her justice. She is truly a master of her craft. Our wedding was BIG with many moving parts and topped off with uncooperative weather. She had her team fully prepared and on stand-by for two totally different types of weddings up until just a few hours before the ceremony. Once the call was made to go outdoor she led a highly professional team to pull off a fairytale wedding like an indoor wedding was never part of the equation. She exhibits a level of professionalism, decisiveness, bearing, and leadership that few posses. On top of dealing with me and my new father-in-law.... She pulled off a miracle. I can honestly say, given the hand that was dealt, she batted .1000 (as she would say). From planning, presentation, and then performance... she made it happen. Most importantly, she ensured everything was perfect and exactly how my wife and her mother had always envisioned her wedding day. She didn't need any oversight or micromanaging.... She just knew. Being able to provide that kind of confidence and peace of mind is a rare trait. She is truly one of a kind. If you're looking for a truly unique and remarkable venue with an uncompromising and highly professional staff to hold your wedding or any other event...
