A fun dining experience with an ambiance archetypal for northern Minnesota. Dinner for 5 here a couple of days ago. When you walk in the door the north woods ambiance hits you like a cedar plank. Circular bar with raucous drinkers, fireplace, etc. They have a decent menu, but I thought where they really shined was the daily specials. A couple of us had the herring dinner. I love pickled herring, but never had it breaded and fried before, so I took a chance and was glad I did! The first course was the salad, which had a nice bed of mixed greens with shredded carrots and grape tomatoes. Really good. The entree had a generous serving of skin-on fries which were some of the best I've had in recent memory, but the star was the herring. There were 3 good-sized fillets plus tartar sauce. I had a Happy Plate that night, and a Happy Belly. There aren't too many choices for restaurants in the surrounding area, but all I can say is we all left pleased with our evening at the Four Seasons. read more

Want a place like back home to eat at on the North Shore, you can't do better than Four Seasons. It's just 5 miles off highway 61 in Finland. They have old fashioned French fries that are the perfect balance of crispy, salty, and greasy. I had the steak sandwich and my wife had the walleye sandwich. Our bill was about $20 lower than at the resorts. We had great service too. Highly recommended! read more

First off a huge shout out to this woman owner! She works so hard everyday day! There are few choices of eateries in this area and this spot is always open. Its an older building, large local crowd and also hot spot for seasonal visitors. You receive a mean with not to many choices but all are good. This is a great hole in the wall restaurant. King Cut Prime Rib was awesome. The Honey Fried Chicken was delicious and juicy. Burgers were great as well. Driving thru back to our cabin in Lutsen and would totally recommend the couple miles off the path. read more

Went up the shore to see a few state parks and found this place in Finland, MN. It was not busy and had a rustic aesthetic and had good food. My buddies enjoyed their dishes as well. The service was fast as well. read more

Hands-down the worst service of my adult life. While my husband and I were understanding that there was a rush of snowmobilers, the way that the waitress/owner? acted and treated us was super uncalled for. She made it feel like it was a burden that you actually ordered anything. When our food finally came, she threw one set of silverware at us, and we had to rip our napkin and have to share it. No water was offered, no inquiry to whether we wanted anything to drink. She treated us like we were a complete and utter burden to her. And on top of it, it was overpriced. Food was good, but the menu only has about 7 options. Service was so bad. We had 4 people and the waitress only took 3 of our orders at first, and then returned with only 1 persons drink. A little off the beaten path, seems to be a local favorite. Eclectic decor and the atmosphere is of a typical bar and grill. The noise level depends a lot on the crowd I think, when we were there it was a little noisy, but not overly so. It was a seat yourself type of place and it took a bit of time to get menus and place our order. They seemed a little short on staff as delays in service were fairly common. The ladies working the tables were extremely busy. The food was excellent however. I think I was there about an hour and twenty minutes, most of that waiting to place order, get food, check, etc.. The service staff were very friendly. I recommend assuming you are not in a rush. read more

I ordered the walleye dinner, my first bite was full of bones and the second bite was even worse. The walleye wasn't fully cooked. I hate sending food back, but decided to let the waitress know it wasn't cooked and said I didn't want a new order as the rest of my party would be done eating and ready to go by the time it would come out. The waitress comped half of the meal, but all I ate was a small baked potato so I asked for the fish to be removed and charged just for the potato. The waitress argued that I was wrong and the fish was cooked and it must be the lighting in the dining room. Cooked and raw fish have a significantly different texture. She then sent the owner out and we explained the issue with the dinner, I was respectful and he got loud and annoyed that I said the fish wasn't cooked. He said walleye isn't pink or slimy so I was wrong. He became louder and said "whatever I will just comp it" and walked away. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Never smiled, never asked if we needed anything else and had to be asked twice for our bill. We were later informed that she is the owners daughter. We were very hungry when we stopped here for a late lunch after hikes at Tettagouche, Caribou, and Temperance River. I admit to some skepticism as we entered and took our seats, but so many items on the menu looked good that I had a hard time deciding what to get. We were soon impressed by the owner's ability to take orders, cook, and serve all on her own. Each of us was very happy with the flavors and textures of our entrees. The food reminded me of my grandma's cooking, and in my life that is a compliment. I had the burger with avocado, bacon, and egg and hand-cut, fresh fries. Hubby had the potato salad with his burger, and the kid had a cup of steak and potato soup with a burger. We even ordered desserts, which we never do: fried ice cream, peanut butter ice cream sandwich, and lemon meringue cheesecake. Again, we ate every last crumb on our plates. The place was nearly silent, so we wished we'd noticed the jukebox before we were on our way out, but the food we were served hit the spot. She even recommended some tourist stops for our time in the area. read more

Service was decent. The food was average and the place is a local hang out for the locals. Nothing fancy. I had the wild rice, chicken and ribs special with one trip to the salad bar. My boyfriend had the burger and French fries. We both had a slice of the blueberry white chocolate cheesecake. The cheesecake was dense and had a strong flavor of blueberries. Dried blueberries topped the cheesecake along with white chocolate curls. This is a friendly place to stop to eat and go. My teenage daughter and I were looking for a decent sit-down meal on a Sunday afternoon on the north shore. I was happy this place was open, the. Even happier to fine out they aerved fresh herring caught inLake Superior! It was fried but light and not at all greasy. Several pieces with a potato (this was the option I chose) and a wonderfully fresh salad. My daughter got a chicken sandwich that was spiced up and liked it. Definitely recommend this place. What a nice little place! I was hiking the north shore with my guy for the weekend and hungry for a mom and pop kind of place for dinner. From the outside, it looks cute with the flower boxes and hanging baskets. The view of the hillsides around it are spectacular. Unfortunately, the way the restaurant is situated, you can't see out the window at this beautiful view. So it was friday and they had a fish fry like many places do. I ordered the special and he ordered the walley. It came with salad bar and warm dinner rolls. Nice little salad bar. My guy was in love with this jello fruit custard dessert they had. It was unusual but very tasty. I got the wild rice hotdish (house special) with my fish. I tried a bite of his walley and it was super fresh and tasty. The tartar sauce was more of a dill mayo blend which was also a nice change from the standard tartar. They had a nice little selection of beers but nothing out of the ordinary. The strawberry lemonade was excellent. Where this place really shines is the service! Our waitress was very attentive, friendly and fast. She was the only one waiting on several tables and I never felt like she wasn't there whenever we needed something! If you are ever in the Finland area, you should give this place a visit. Don't let appearances fool you; this place has excellent food. My mom, sister, and I stopped here for lunch during a North Shore day trip because we were starving and it was the first restaurant we came across. While the interior definitely has a small town, dive bar style, our meals were high quality. My sister had the walleye sandwich and it was enormous. Mom had the turkey wrap which looked huge, packed with fresh ingredients, and tasty. I had the bacon bleu cheese burger and it was fantastic- flavorful, perfectly cooked, and filling. The hand cut fries were amazing as well. Service was attentive and friendly. Definitely stop by here for a good meal if you're in the area. read more

My wife and I have visited the Finland, Minnesota, area for a few years, but haven't stopped in here before now. We heard good things from someone in Beaver Bay, and decided to give it a try. (Normally, when we vacation on the North Shore, we do our own cooking, but we may eat out once or twice in a week.) According to the history on the tables -- a small sign describes the 40 years the place has been open -- the building has been expanded twice. There's an open space near the entrance, by the bar, in front of the fireplace. I suppose it could be a dancing area, but I didn't ask. I gather that they get a lot of snowmobile business in the winter. We arrived in the mid-afternoon, and were the only diners (though a couple people were playing pool, and a few more visitors came in to the bar), but during normal lunch and dinner periods we saw a large number of vehicles parked outside. The folks there were known to each other, so this seems to be favored by locals. With good reason: The food is excellent. We started with the potato "canoes," generous-sized sections lopped off a potato -- no spooned-out potato skin here! On top were fresh bacon bits, green onion, and cheddar cheese. On the side was a chive-laced sour cream. It was delicious and filling. My wife opted for a plain hamburger. I got the Blue Ox burger, which had bacon, bleu cheese, an onion ring, and a balsamic reduction over the burger. I also got a side of cole slaw. The burgers were cooked to the last hot-pink center (we hadn't been asked, but we didn't order a special level -- they got it just right), and juicy. The onion ring on mine wasn't oily or soft, but nice and crisp. The bleu cheese mixed well with it, and the balsamic reduction offered a nice note in the mix. A really, really good burger, I recommend it if you like the ingredients. We decided to skip French fries, as we'd had the potato canoes; I ordered the cole slaw to get another vegetable. This was not your typical shredded-cabbage slaw, but hand-chopped cabbage and carrots. The dressing was not too bland nor too spicy; I usually have to add pepper to cole slaw to make it palatable, but this was quite flavorful on its own, and a good accompaniment to the burger. Our plates also came with a small kale leaf, a dill pickle (very crispy!), and a twist of fresh orange. We saved room for dessert, and had the Twin Berry Lemon Cheesecake. Blueberries and raspberries were in a layer between two layers of cheesecake, with some cream on the outside. It wasn't overly sweet or syrupy, but wasn't bland. We had decided to split an order, which was good, as it was a hefty slice of cheesecake. One surprise was a pair of pug dogs who enjoyed sniffing our shoes, and sitting by the table looking at us. We had no objection, but the staff went to put them in the office. If you object to pets in a dining area, I don't think there would be any hesitation about moving them if you ask. I would definitely eat here again. read more

Don't waste your time! You might get served if you are a local, but otherwise forget it. We walked in and a waitress directed us to a table, but then proceeded to ignore us for 15 minutes even though she walked by us at least 15 times. It was fairly busy on a Saturday evening, but there were other tables with nobody at them. You would think she could have dropped a couple menus off at the table as she was walking by. After she brought menus to another table that had gotten there 10 minutes after we did, we decided to leave. If I could give zero stars I would. There is a for sale sign in the window. Hopefully someone that wants to actually serve customers will buy the place. read more

We stopped here for a Sunday dinner on our way to a cabin we rented and were pleasantly surprised with the simple but tasty menu. The dinner was fantastic. My husband got the sirloin steak and I got the chicken Boursin with wild rice hot dish. Both came with a trip to the small but perfect and very fresh salad bar. I am terribly sorry to have to share this but I couldn't get my experience out of my mind. I stopped in this quaint bar over the weekend with my partner; we were camping at a state park. There was definitely some racist commentary happening around the bar and it was extremely inappropriate and uncomfortable. The food and service were fine but I couldn't let the nature of the conversation go. I understand this is a very remote location without the diversity of a larger city but it was very unwelcoming. read more

We come to the north shore annually and stop at Four Seasons for a drink and/or lunch. We came in and there were a few tables and a couple people at the bar so fairly busy for them. Realizing anyone can have a bad day, four of us sat at the bar the owner saw us and turned away with a disgusted gesture and disappeared. She returned to process a bill for a table without acknowledging us. Four additional people came in and sat at the bar, she'd said to them "I'll be right with you, maybe tomorrow". But, she knew them as they were locals. She has a sign that says "Don't let the locals scare you off". They didn't but she did. Terrible attitude treated us as second citizens. Her place is for sale and she will go broke with this kind of customer service. Needless to say we left without ordering. read more

This spot caters more to locals than tourists, and the locals there were "picking on" individuals they felt had rented snowmobiles for the weekend. Kind of set an awkward vibe in the close knit corners of the bar area! Wait staff sat down to eat instead of taking drink orders or checking on individuals dining. Drinks are inexpensive if you just need a quick stop during a snowmobile or hiking trip in the area. It seemed they were prepping to sell - maybe that's the reason things were a little off. We were hungry, but the atmosphere turned us away from ordering food. read more

Several parties had come just before us, so the service wasn't fast, but we weren't in a hurry. We each ordered a beer and shared a blue cheese burger. I can honestly say I have never been so shocked/amazing with a place before. We were camping in the area and needed to stop off for a cold beer. Figured we'd pop in for a Bud Light (already assumed their beer selection would be poor) and then head out. We ended up staying there for 4 hours! Enjoyed the great company of those who work there (hey zack!), sipped on tasty craft beers, and even got to sample some delicious off the menu food Chef Dan had been working on. This is a nice family type supper club, the menu is unique, we are locals and this is the place we take family and friends when visiting for a nice evening. The menu is limited but choices are good. They also have a nice salad bar with choice lettuce and a raspberry vinaigrette that is the best. They have a wild rice hot dish that makes a great paring with any of the dinners. read more
