Wow if only there were more Gin tastings around.... Walking in here the first thing you notice is the amazing aroma, it smells fresh, spicy, and complex. Although the building is huge on the outside, the place was full when we visited. There's a some bar tables around, counter and tasting area. Tasting is $10 per person and redeemable on purchase. We had to wait some time for tastings so decided just to buy a bottle of their standard. I am definitely keen to return and experience the full range but for now just excited to see Gin maker that presents their product so well and beautifully and local too !!

I didn't even know this was here but couldn't resist popping in and giving it a go. They distill smallish batches of premium gins. We had a $10 sampler which gives you a taster of all 4. There's the 'standard', Navy strength, a blend with Macadamia nuts, and a barrel aged gin. All were fab and we came away with the first and last on the list. The prices per bottle are pretty steep but you can redeem your $10 sampler money off a bottle. The staff were knowledgeable about the products and the history of gin itself. There's a bar here but the only food they have is snacks like nuts and toast with orange marmalade made from the left over oranges used in the distilling process. Will be back!

Gin heaven. If you haven't tried the four pillars gin yet; get here now. And if you have, well I'm preaching to the converted. This place is beyond amazing not just because of the gin either. First of all though, the gin is pretty bloody great. They have a couple of standard styles that they do; the navy strength, the rare dry and the barrel aged. There now seems to be a negroni spiced gin and various other fun collabs or experiments that pop up which is excellent news for my spirits cabinet. You can buy their gins here and/or taste them. In cocktail or G&T form. I recommend do all of those things. The menu consists of a couple of very classic cocktails, with the four pillars twist and you can build these cocktails up by choosing from your favourite gin, vermouth and garnish. You can do this with gin and tonics too or you can get a tasting paddle so that you can really appreciate how different they all are. Food is simple snacks such as nuts or olives and please be aware the 'Red Snapper' is a gin based Bloody Mary like drink, not a fishy feast. The space it's self is a big beautifully converted warehouse which is 1 part tasting room, 1 part distillery and 10 parts storage. The whole place is riddled with inviting natural light and you can also sit outside. All of the tables are big and high so if you do turn up as a big group there should be space for you all to fit in. You can book into tours (think they do walk in for a tenner) and for bigger groups you have to book in advance. And lastly, this place is awesome because they seriously have the best staff ever. Oh and the guys that run this place rock. Lots of love all around. Who said gin makes you sad. Not at this place!!

Excellent gin tasting with delicious cheeses, breads and jam to compliment. Gin Favorites with tonic was apple rhubarb, then Shiraz...

Starward New World Distillery - Spacious, comfortable seating area with bar to left and stills in the background

Starward New World Distillery

I've done the majority of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and, man, could the KY distilleries learn a…read morething or two from Starward about presentation! Starward is an easy 30 minute walk from the Yarra Promenade into a warehouse district reminiscent of Lexington, KY. It is set in a very spacious warehouse that allows for guests to see the stills while enjoying a drink at the bar. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays they offer a quick 50 minute tour of the distillery that includes a tasting of the Solera and Wine Cask whiskies for 10 AUD/person. Their whiskies are very unique and do not feel to just be an imitation of the peaty Scottish liquors. If you do not want to tour (or if you are convinced you need to try more drinks post tour), there is a bar with ample seating area. I'd suggest ordering their Tenth Anniversary whisky neat; it is very clean and tasty. Based off you preference from the tastings, you can pick from a good variety of mixed drinks. For Wine Cask fans, I would suggest their Brunswick Fizz which has the Wine Cask, vermouth, lemon, syrup, and egg white. Solera fans should try the Battle for NOLA which is a combination of their Solera, absinthe, and bitters. If you've met your maximum of whisky, they offer gin and some local beer and wine. The employees are all very kind and great conversationalists. If coming in the middle of the day, there are a few little cafes in the area that are open through lunch. Starward does offer some meat and cheese plates. Otherwise, plan to eat before heading over to the area. I cannot wait from them to break into the US market! Until now, stock up on some bottles for your trip home.
