I had a decent haircut but was one of the most awkward experiences of my life. I have been coming here for years and for some reason the woman cutting my hair was extremely rude. I was trying to make basic polite talk like do you have any Christmas plans and she literally told me to shut up. Afterwards I pay for my haircut with exact cash and she says no tip in a super rude way. In what world do you never talk to your barber you do not get tips from a client you tell to shut up. I have been coming here for over a decade but never again. Hoping this place closes soon it's dirty and falling apart anyways if the service continues like this it won't last. read more

My hair was starting to get a little too shaggy so I dropped by for a quick cut. I was happy to see they're open until 7pm on weeknights so I could catch them coming home from work. I don't usually keep my hair tightly trimmed, faded or short so I don't have that kind of expertise when it comes to barber reviews. What I can say is that the barber who cut my hair worked fast and seemed to know what he was doing with both scissors and trimmers. I was happy with the end result and can easily say it was a step above the Sport Clips/cheap snips kind of shops when it comes to haircuts. $18 for a haircut and it took under 30 minutes in and out the door for a simple trim. If you're looking for a serious haircut, you're probably safer going to a men's salon but Fountainview is a great option if you're just looking for a fast no frills trim for under $20. read more

I have been going here for almost 5 years now and there has been very little turnover there. This is one of the great things about this place!! Every guy needs a place where he gets his hair cut from the same person each time he goes in, and knows that it won't be a crap-shoot when he goes to the barber. Cindy has been cutting my hair and I am always pleased with the haircuts and service that I receive here!! They don't rush through their customers, trying to get more butts in the chair. The holy grail for barbershop services; my first time was as a walk-in five years ago and I've been a repeat customer ever since, also recommending it to many of my friends. They have a full array of barber services, including the coveted straight blade shave. Ask for Eric; the guy is an amazingly unique individual and an extremely talented barber with years of experience. Most of my friends that go for the first time try explaining what they want and the tools he should use, as is customary with somewhere generic like Great Clips, that employ cookie-cutter hair stylists. His response is always: "Hey man, no worries, I got this" and then proceeds to give them a fantastic hair cut. The prices are great; last time I got out with a haircut, shampoo, and head & neck massage (don't judge), all for $24. The straight-blade shave Eric does is an amazing experience all its own. Take the time to check it out and call in for an appointment (not required, but makes it easy, ask for Eric). It's in a pretty average looking shopping center so you know you're paying skill and talent, not high priced rent. read more

This is my first review! I've been waiting for her to start shouting at me in Thai. Good haircuts, decent (slightly weird Thai influenced) conversation and pretty average pricing. I've been getting my hair cut by Don at the Fountainview Barber Shop for over 10 years now. I started as a walk in and now I make sure to phone in for an appointment since they can get busy at times and I'm too busy to wait around. I can't recall a time that I have had a bad experience there. My hair is VERY short so I have to go in every 2-3 weeks, so I have been there quite a few times in the last decade. The decor of the shop is not fancy by any means, but the service is great and the prices are reasonable. I used to live 2 blocks from the shop and it was real easy to drop in. I moved away from the area about 2 and a half years ago, but still go out of my way to get my hair cut there. read more

I found more skill and understanding of hair in one visit to Fountainview (with Eric) than the cumulative of years at ____cuts (super, pro, sports, etc, etc). Eric listened to what I wanted then proceeded with fantastic skill and attention to detail. The hot lather, shoulder massage, and beer are nice perks, but you don't need any of that to appreciate a skillfully cut doo for under $20. This review is for the razor shave. Didn't have a haircut so can't speak to those services. First, online booking is a huge plus. I live close to another barber shop in Houston but I don't go there for shaves because there's no appointments and only one person does the shaves. The 'Meet the Staff' portion of their webpage is accurate: Eric does have the gift of gab. He made me feel welcome and kept the conversation going. Also a very good barber. A lot of other shaves have left my skin irritated and didn't feel as close a cut, but I didn't have either of those problems this time. He did a great job with my stubborn face. Been coming here since I was young. Harvey used to own this place but sold it to one of his partners who has kept the authenticate barbershop feel in it while adding some much needed updates. I used to have Eric (which recently returned to Fountainview barber) cut my hair but when he left I started to have Cindy cut my hair and am extremely impressed with her talent and expertise. She does wonderful tapered neckline and is patient an never rushes the haircut. I refuse to have anyone else touch my hair. She really is amazing, very nice and caring, always asking how everything is going for me. I highly recommend this place, I will forever go here (at least as long as Cindy is here) and always recommend friends to this location. read more

Based on a friend's recommendation I thought I should I give them a try. I had to attend a party the next day so So I called in for an appointment and got Patrick to take me in (I really appreciated that). I was happy that finally I might have found a good barbershop in Houston but I was wrong. So I went in for a hair cut and beard trim. Hair cut was average at best but OMG was I in for a surprise about my beard or what. He started with a hair cut and took a decent amount of time but then one of his other appointments showed up and he started to rush, finished quick and ushered me off the chair. I wear glasses so I couldn't tell at the time but when I got home I realized that He ruined my beard really bad. Beard was trimmed uneven, too much taken off from the chin, left cheek was trimmed lower then right and jawline was trimmed really high. Oh and it was not a traditional shave because he used an electric shaver instead (yup I was shocked and pissed!) I'm not sure if this is usual for them or I just got him on a bad day but I'm never going back again! read more

Hate to post a bad review about a barber shop due to the fact that a poor haircut is a reflection of a poor barber and not necessarily the shop itself, but my haircut is one star away from atrocious, and barely on the cusp of one star away. I would offer a 1.6 if possible.... Asked for a MEDIUM bald fade with a two on top.... Walked out with a no joke high and tight. Like straight out of the gates of MCRD Parris Island, high and tight. The lady didn't even hand me the mirror to show me my hair at the end so I'm pretty sure she wasn't at all confident in her performance either. Shop is not bad... has beer and stuff, good location (by my office), but WOW I want my hair back. Stay loyal to your barbers, folks. Needed convenience and I'm sorely disappointed. $20 down the hole and LITERALLY nothing to show for it. read more

I was looking for a barbershop after moving to Houston from Los Angeles. Came across this little shop on Yelp and it ended up being a pleasant surprise. $18 dollar haircuts with free drinks (alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages). I got my haircut with Cindy and she was absolutely amazing. She has a great personality but more importantly (for barbershop customers) she cuts hair unparalleled to any other barber I've had in the past.. including ridiculously expensive barbers I've tried in the Hollywood/West Hollywood area. Just showed her a picture of what I wanted and she did it.. she can do tapers, low fades, and professional styling. I don't leave many Yelp comments but she was definitely worth mentioning. Fountainview Barber Shop is wonderful! I've struggled to find a real barbershop for years and am so thankful I have finally. I was so sick of unpredictable cuts and slanted sideburns from Sportclips. At Fountainview I get my money's worth. I use Cindy. She has been wonderful and I keep making appointments with her (they take walk ins too). She actually knows what 'taper' means and how to do it. I've never had a cut from any of the other barbers, but would certainly be confident enough to try it if Cindy wasn't around one day. The same barbers are here, they know what they are doing, and they are polite in the process.
