I do however well remember the good ol' days of the Fat Cat when you'd have to fight your way in, fight your way to the bar, fight your way to the toilets etc. Not much has changed internally, it still has the same layout and same style, but having recently visited at 10pm on a Saturday night it's obvious that one thing has changed the number of customers. Not only did we not have to fight our way in we pretty much had the run of the place and not only did we find somewhere to sit (something practically unheard of in the old days) we had a wide choice of seats to select from. This may be partly due to the fact that the bar doesn't target the usual Saturday night drinking crowd. There's no cheap lager, only more expensive brands served up in fancy glasses. Some of the small band of customers present were buying cocktails which were served up with dry ice capsules that made the drinks smoke, something that looks impressive but probably doesn't add to the flavour! As well as drinks they also serve food but no-one seemed to be eating that late at night so we had no chance to sneak a peek at other people's grub. All in all it's a nice and reasonably upmarket place (the toilets need a revamp and hopefully refurbishment will be on the new owners to-do list) but you wonder if the demand is still there for a place like this in Llandudno, especially considering not only that the Fat Cat closed because the owners went bust but also that a rival bar & grill is set to open a few doors away.

On our visit, the six Nations tournament was on TV and the locals were cheering on the Italians (as they were playing England, this was expected). There was Wetherspoons usual excellent choice of real ales at bargain prices and, alongside the usual bargain meals, there were a good half-dozen local-themed meals such as Welsh rarebit, lamb cawl, Welsh Dragon sausages.. If you are in the area, it would be a crime not to visit, just to see the place!

The restaurant is in a great location just a block from the beach and boardwalk area. Llandudno is a cute resort town that reminded me of a place in Greece with the houses and hotels built into the cliff. The decor was great and being a native New Yorker myself, I was not overwhelmed. I particularly enjoyed the Harvey's Times Square style sign. The service was on a different level. Truly excellent and I couldn't ask for anything else. We waited maybe 20 minutes for the food - five meals - and four of them came out at the same time. My pizza that I ordered had gotten burnt and the manager made the decision to remake it. He came over and personally informed me just a few seconds later and gave me a complimentary basket of french fries and onion rings. Lastly, the food was very good. Just a lot of food. If I lived here or visited again, I'd make my way back here again. We booked with it being Saturday night and along with a couple of pints from their range of 5 guest cask ales, chose the lasagne and pork loin for dinner. The food menu is traditional British pub food, but we had heard from friends who'd visited previously that all the food is made from the freshest ingredients and of great quality so it was quite hard making our decision as everything sounded so tasty. We made a great choice as both our meals were excellent and just about squeezed in a piece of sticky toffee pudding in (I could have squeezed 2 pieces in it was that good...) but just be aware that the kitchen stops serving food at 9pm so make sure you leave yourself time to order it from the bar if you have a sweet tooth!
