Uninspiring, unchallenging, my child nearly quit music because she disliked it so much. Also eternally on the waitlist.

Rocky Mountain Raptor Program - Flight Cages- where flight assessment happens

Rocky Mountain Raptor Program

What is a raptor? A raptor is a Hawk…read more.... So I am learning so much from Yelp's virtual events and this event, The Rocky Mountain Raptor Program is no stranger to education and information to people like me.... The RMRP is an organization who rescues, rehabilitates and then, returns the Raptor back to the wild. However in some cases, the bird is injured that even with rehabilitation would not survive in the wild. In these cases they are housed and cared for within and through this Raptor Program. The raptors who are in the program are not given names. Why? Not sure but I'm guessing that might lend to attachment so as a rule, No names??? The raptor's beak and it's feet!!! what are they called? Bird Feet!!!! They need the feet and beak as a tool for their survival. Their wing span can reach five feet.... (that spans my height!!! LOL) Those birds are so pretty or handsome as it may be. I'm glad and I tip my hat to the RMRP for giving them a second lease on life. oh, by the way, if you see other birds in harm's way, you can reach out to the RMRP with a picture of what needs help and they will find the right group to assist. Thank you!!! RMRP!!!!

Rocky Mountain Raptor Program currently operates at two facilities. The main raptor rehabilitation center and hospital is located at 720B East Vine Drive in Fort Collins Colorado. Although this facility is not open to the public, tours are available for a small fee. You may visit the ELC (Environmental Learning Center) located off of Environmental drive, found at Drake and Ziegler. Some of the Educational Embassadors live at this location full time, including the BAEA (Bald Eagle). Be sure to stop by the ELC during daylight hours. You will be glad that you did. RMRP does host multiple open houses throughout the year, and there you will learn everything that you have ever wanted to learn about Raptors (and no, not the dinosaurs!). For instance, did you know that the AMKE (American Kestrel) is the smallest Falcon found in North America...and the males are even Broncos colors! Once you see one, you will notice just how many there are in Colorado. RMRP rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured birds of prey, including Eagles, Owls, Hawks and Falcons; and through its comprehensive Environmental Education program, teaches the importance of preserving wildlife and wild places for future generations. Check out rmrp.org to see more about the facilities, the people, and the beautiful birds they rehabilitate for a 'Second Chance at Freedom'

Vindeket Foods - Gratitude

"Vindeket Foods is a non profit food rescue that partners with grocery stores, restaurants and…read morefarms to reduce wasted food" They are a no cost market that is open to everyone. Donations are welcome. You can do a donation with credit card, venmo, or your time. Or if you can't give anything that is okay as well. This concept was interesting to me and I have heard some of my friends talk about this place. With the rising costs of food and well just about everything these days, opted to go and give it a try. There is a tight parking lot, seems like it would be hard to get in and out of though especially if you have a higher profile vehicle. There is also some street parking available. Be sure to bring your reusable bags. Well unless you want to use a box. They do provide them but then there is something large to have to recycle. They are open 3 days a week for limited hours so be sure to check they are open when you want to go. Upon arriving there was a line. Which sounds like is the norm. They can only have so many people inside at one time. It is a smaller space and i can see where it would not be fun to have a bunch of people on top of you. The line moved fairly quickly however. When you do get to the door a volunteer will ask you how many people you are shopping for (how big is your household) you just tell them whatever the number is and then you go in. Its a small warehouse type building. There is some shelving and you just proceed to move around and get what you need. Of course try to be respectful of the fact that there are multiple other people who are also looking for food. They had volunteers restocking items while i was there. There is always going to be different stuff as it will depend on what locations are giving away at the time. Today i was able to find some gluten free breads for my daughter and then some organic regular bread and bagels for my husband and son. Also some salad dressings, some vegan dairy items and regular dairy items, some canned veggies and a few peppers and grapefruit. Was able to snag a dozen eggs which i was excited about for the family. Not for myself as i am vegan. Anyhow, overall it did seem worth the trip and i will be back again in the future. I will probably also look into volunteering as well. This seems like a worth cause i could get behind.

Food Bank For Larimer County - Thank you so much

We frequent the Fort Collins food bank. The volunteers need better training . They manage some of…read morethe most vulnerable populations in our community. As a person with a disability that is not visible I have attempted to shop on Wednesdays when services are suppose to provide easier access to seniors and those with disabilities. Despite documenting the disability in their intake documentation, and after standing in line for about 45 minutes, the volunteer at the front desk looked at my age and informed me I wasn't a senior and should not be there shopping that day. The sad part is how loud her voice carried across the entire line of clients. I informed her I had a disability and informed her it was documented in their intake paperwork. Every subsequent visit has been a repeat to the intake person questioning why I am there shopping that day. I finally gave up trying to show up on Wednesdays. Not all disabilities are physical and visible. My question is why senior citizens aren't required to give proof of age every time they shop, or asked to verify if they are seniors? Once their age is recorded they are given a green light but someone with a disability has to request the same treatment as seniors because the volunteers are forming a judgement because they aren't seeing a physical disability.

Okay! Well I am just going to say i have had fantastic experiences with the food bank for larimer…read morecounty. We have been there in multiple capacities. -As a patron -as a donor -as a volunteer -for tours with girl scouts and homeschool groups Many many years ago, my family utilized the food bank as a patron and we were so very thankful for the food. They had a variety of stuff that i could find even with special dietary needs of gluten free, vegan, vegetarian. Produce was usually fine and most anything we got was tasty. I have donated food there. Whether for girl scout cookie donations or donations just for other times throughout the year. Donating is a very easy process. They have a lot of hours available to donate. You go in the donation door. And bring your food in. They will have you put your food/donations on a scale and then you can get a tax donation receipt if you would like it. Because of being so thankful for the years of food the food bank had provided for my younger family, I have been thankful to volunteer for this organization. I have brought my girl scout troop here many times to volunteer, homeschool community and also a local womans group. The volunteer coordinator is easy to work with and the jobs are always varied and interesting. There is always a lot to do! Lastly i have brought groups here for tours. Not everyone knows or understands what the food bank does and I thought it was important for my girl scouts and also some folks from homeschool community to be able to hear about it. The tour guides were always engaging and made it interesting and memorable for those that i brought. I am very thankful for this organization and their mission of feeding people.

I turned in a stray dog that I was going to adopt if her previous owner didn't come forward. Based on her teeth, face, and personality, she appeared to be less than a year old. Unfortunately, I later discovered that she was pregnant, and after having a stillborn puppy in there care , she became understandably depressed and stopped eating. It's well documented that such traumatic experiences can lead to reactivity in dogs THAT YOU CAN WORK PAST . it was clear upon finding her that she had been abused skinny and scard of dogs and people , a concern I explicitly expressed to the Humane Society staff. What infuriated me the most was their decision to euthanize her as she was there for less then 4 weeks without informing us, stating reactivity and aggression not exploring any of the other rehabilitating options THEY HAVE to keep this yung dog alive . This felt not only unprofessional but also unethical, especially given the provisions of the Colorado Animal Rights Act, which emphasizes the humane treatment of animals. This decision is particularly egregious considering that, in the week I cared for her before turning her in, her reactivity stemmed purely from fear, a natural response to her past trauma and current situation and through out all that she loved kids . She was a scared, young animal in need of care, not a death sentence. I am beyond disappointed with the lack of communication and compassion shown in this situation. To add insult to injury, they have been ignoring my phone calls. When I did manage to speak with someone, the woman on the phone was incredibly rude, speaking to me as if I were a child and twisting my words to justify their decision to euthanize a dog whose life could have been saved. They took a life that deserved to live. Animals deserve better, she deserved better. I hope that by sharing this experience, the Humane Society will reflect on their practices and improve upper management because clearly this decision was made out of pure laziness The avoidable loss of this dog's life is a profound failure on their part. I am the way they are in the way. They handled this whole thing. I'm very hatred for the staff that decided to go through with this and not speak up.
