Was looking for a new place to try in Fort Collins as I don't get up here often. I went to FOCO cafe due to its rating but also its social model; like SAME in Denver. Good food, pay as you can including a volunteer job for lunch. Nice. Great stew, salad, and brownie. I'll be back. Might try volunteering for my lunch. read more

Foco Cafe is truly a gem. The lunch is made from scratch everyday by a group of hard working people who are on a mission to end hunger. They operate on a pay as you can scale so that it doesn't discriminate people based on their inability to pay for lunch and to help the people who've fallen on tough times retain a sense of pride and not shame because they can't afford a meal. You can pay $4 up to as much as you want for your lunch. The cap is $12 I believe and the rest is for donations to help continue their mission and program. FoCo Cafe has one of the most unique models I've ever seen. Giving back tot the cafe in exchange for my meals gave me a sense of satisfaction and belonging. I've eaten dozens of meals there and they've all been healthy and incredible tasting, and the staff/volunteers are very sweet. read more

Where are the food reviewers for this place? The farmer's market soup today was beyond award-winning WITHOUT the lemon-garden-pepper muffin. Every day, Chef Jeremy makes amazing fresh meals with totally local ingredients. He's harvested the honey and he milks a goat weekly. I know that FoCo Cafe is awesome because of everyone who works together there. It's truly community-built. I just want to shine a light on Chef Jeremy because he's been surprising all of us lately. Do not eat here until they get things under control. I have personally seen homeless people urinating in their vegetable planters and know a few other people who work nearby that have also seen it happen. Letting the employees know just gets you some attitude. It has become a health hazard and just a place for the homeless to camp. I can't believe they're serving people still, someone should call a news station. read more

It's great how they will often tell you which local farms ingredients from the menu came from. Jeff and Kathleen are so kind as welcoming as are all of their volunteers. What a wonderful little place to eat! The staff/volunteers are friendly as can be, the food was fantastic, and the atmosphere was relaxed. The diners were all friendly as can be also! This is an amazing place that truly gives back to the community, and it's a business model that I hope catches on and spreads to more areas. If you're really into the Fort Collins community, you've probably been here before, but if not, you're definitely missing out! The basic model is that you go down a line at the counter and pick from the options, then pay what you can (or, you volunteer for a few hours and get a free meal)! It's not a soup kitchen, though; it's a full restaurant, and it's a really good one at that. The food is fantastic. The ingredients are local, organic, and always very fresh. This isn't a place that you would go if you want to have a million different options from the menu; there's usually a couple selections for soup or salad or desert, but all of the options are very quality. There's also always a vegan option and an omnivore option, so even though there might be only a couple of options on a given day, those options really are diverse. And again, they're all really tasty. There's no "wait staff" per se, but there are usually volunteers clearing tables and wiping them down, and bringing water if you need it. PRO TIP: Don't get there right when it opens at 11 am. It does tend to open a little bit later than anticipated because the food isn't always done yet, and they won't serve people early. In my experience, and from what I've heard from friends and family, they're usually up and running closer to 11:30 or even 12. I haven't been there in about a year though, so maybe this has changed in that time. read more

They rescue food from donations that would otherwise be thrown away. The menu changes daily and the meals are super yummy. This is a great resource in the community. Also, you pay what think you should pay. Love the diversity of the people that come eat here. If you can't afford the meal you can volunteer. There is usually a volunteer playing some fun music. A friendly cozy place. Amazing healthy home-made food that is local and organic. I am always more than satisfied. I recommend going daily for nourishment! The food is made with love. Always friendly and informative service. I am addicted to their soups. I go there regularly and do not tire of the food because there is always a new soup to try. They serve only an array of soups, healthy nutrition packed salads and baked goods plus iced tea or coffee. Always a vegetarian and meat option in the soups. Set in an old railway building with great sunlight. Sometimes a local musician plays. And an important note: this amazing place is a non-profit allowing anyone of any type of living standard to eat there. The place attracts a wide array of people - ANYONE who likes good healthy food!
