Following the brake job they did on my wife's car, the brakes continued making a noise, so I took it elsewhere. That's I learned Downtown Automotive Repair failed to torque the bolts holding my brake caliper in place. So one bolt vibrated out while driving 2 weeks after they "repaired it" and the other bolt was begining to unthread itself (hence why the noise started). In my case they botched a very simple/ straight forward repair. They might do good for simple stuff like tires, but I wouldn't trust them with any major repair, and definately not for something as important as brakes. They are nice people though, so I think their heart is in the right place. I just think they are essentually a tire shop that occasionally does "other stuff." Which struck me as odd because their was a race trailer/ hot rod parked out back of their shop. So somebody there knows how to wrench (owner?), but definately not their shop employees . . . hopefully they can turn things around, because they seem like nice people, and I prefer supporting local businesses.

Ok, I've got a bit of a story to tell. Unfortunately I did not feel like they cared about our situation. They didn't care that we broke the bank, and they didn't have any supportive conversations with me or my wife about the situation. I called the shop, asked if they would give me a quote over the phone to drain the AC system, then once the part is replaced they would re-charge our AC system. Was quoted $341.56 for this work to be done. Ok great, my wife takes the truck into the shop to have it drained the next day. They then say it's $600+ and said it's because of the AC system we have. We said ok, whatever, it's got to get done. They drain the system, then recharge the system all at once. My wife leaves confused as to why they did that. Once I got involved and told them they just charged a leaking system, we brought it back to have it drained. They said it was a miscommunication on our end, blaming my wife. Not her fault, Whatever, moving on. I replaced the part (condenser) and took the car into the shop myself the next day, and instead of making me feel confident that they will make sure the system doesn't leak and gets charged properly. The first thing they did was complain about the The first thing they did was complain about the miscommunication that happened amongst them and my wife the day before. Blaming her again. This made me very mad, instead of making it right they continued to talk about the situation. They should have apologized and said they are here to help us, let's make this right so you guys can drive your kids around and keep them cool during the hot summer days. But no. Instead, they express that they don't really care. They just care about making a profit. Bottom line I didn't feel wanted there, they didn't make me feel like they would help anyway they can. Instead they complained about the situation and didn't care that I spent every last penny I had to get this AC working again. Because of this incident I will not be coming back, the females there have terrible attitudes. I'm taking my business elsewhere. Hope everyone else has a better experience, I was hopeful that this was going to be a great place to go to. Unfortunately it's not..

He made sure the mechanics did the job for the cost of the repair. Since then, I took my Truck in to have a routine ballpoint replacement (upper lower). I left town on a trip and never got a call letting me know it was finished. (2 weeks later) I called before I took a flight back to make sure it was finished. "yes sir, we are getting ready to finish it tomorrow" (The day I was scheduled to land back in Leon County) Well, the ball joints where definitely put back into the arms (upper/lower arms). And, when it came time to service (grease joints). The orffes on bottom joints had been permatexed shut. Meaning they didn't put any grease fitting on. And the mechanic didn't' forget he simply glued the hole. If you don't know, that means you cant add grease to make the joints last. I asked Mr James about it. "we would never do that" I replied "this truck has never been anywhere else"!!! He then said it would be 2 hours labor but would never return my call after the 3 call? I am now needing new ball joints again... 2 years later. The joints cost me $1400.00 Now they need replaced again 2 years later because they cant be greased and run dry... Crawfordville Automotive failed to communicate!! You should not need to replace ball joints in 2 years unless they run dry... And, never should they be permatexed closed so that they cant be serviced (greased) This is very basic service and the unskilled craftsmanship has cost me too much money to continue patronizing the business.. I wish Dan was still in charge. He wold have answered the call and set up maintenance! Loss of Trust

I try and put things in perspective, I think challenges and adventures are one in the same especially if you keep a cool head and figure it out. Flat-towing my 2004 Jeep Wrangler behind my RV is a piece of cake but it does require preparation and some thought to do it safely, since each vehicle is unique and requires a number of procedures to protect people and property and when something goes wrong it's important to find the root cause and take corrective measures to prevent it from reoccurring. My most recent adventure and what got me here at Merrell's Automotive is somewhat puzzling although there are a few theories, one is that the front tire on my tow vehicle failed while dragging it from Louisiana to the Gulf Coast of Florida, fortunately it didn't complete fail and I made it safely to my destination. The second theory is that I overlooked something and failed to completely unlock my steering before hitting the road, this is not something I want to admit but it's a consideration that I have to address and make adjustments, maybe I need a checklist, maybe the entire process is too complicated to keep mentally I'll definitely reevaluate my preparation and figure it out. Fortunately Merrell's Automotive is located less than 3 miles from the campground, a quick call put my mind at ease, I dropped in and the staff treated me like an old friend. They quickly went to work and swapped out the bad tire with my brand new spare and of course offered an experienced explanation of why they felt the tire failed and it was similar to my second theory unfortunately, but hey it is what is it and I was in and out in less than 20 minutes. I really want to say thanks to the entire staff - their professional and friendly service made the experience much less painful and the care they showed my rims and tires is so much appreciated. I wish I had this caliber of automotive repair shop near my home. Once the repair was completed the total out the door price was only $10.00 (what only $10.00 am I back in Mayberry at Wally's Filling Station)? I certainly couldn't leave without buying lunch for the attendant since lunchtime was fast approaching, I know he appreciated that as much I appreciated his help and his attention to detail. I hope you never have an emergency like mine but if you do I hope you find yourself here...
