I was driving through Fostoria on a road trip and I got hungry, so I looked at the handy dandy Yelp app for suggestions on where to go. Fostoria Dells got the highest number of stars, so I decided to try it out. This is a little diner that's obviously a place where the townspeople go. It seemed everyone was a regular. I ordered a brisket sandwich that came with fries. I found the service to be a little slow, but man, I think that was the best brisket I've ever had! It was too messy to pick up and eat, so I used a fork and knife. I was actually satisfied with just half, but I ended up eating the whole thing! Was in the area checking out some antique shops and stopped here for lunch. Staff was friendly. Had an old school diner vibe. You can tell the locals enjoy it. I had the pulled pork platter. Meat was average. Not bad or anything, just nothing I am going out of my way to get though. If you're in the area it's worth Checking out though. read more

I've been to this diner a handful of times and the food is ok. It's priced reasonably and made fresh but lacks seasoning imo. My most recent visit has actually prompted this bad review. My mother (who is blind and has poor balance) and I went here on a Friday at 530p for an early dinner. The place had 5 tables taken and the rest of the place was empty. My mother and I sat at a booth that was empty because it was close to the door and the waitress came up to is and demanded we sit somewhere else. I explained that we needed to sit at a booth because my mom is extremely self conscious about eating out due to her vision loss. The waitress huffed away muttering under her breath and proceeded to help the table behind us after they sat at a dirty table and loudly said "these tables are dirty and no one should be sitting here". She then came over to our table, slammed down the menus and tableware and rudely asked what we wanted to drink. I asked if there was a problem and she rudely replied, "these tables are dirty and no one can sit here until they're wiped down. It's a food and safety law." NOTHING was said to us about the table being dirty, that's why we sat there. There were no dishes, no straw wrappers or any other debris that would indicate someone previously sat there.... and since it's a seat yourself environment we chose that table because it looked clean and was close to the door. When I asked if she could wipe it down and we requested new silverware and menus that didn't touch a dirty table she flipped out and started yelling at me. Never have I been treated as poorly as I have at this establishment. Bad day or not, she made my self conscious mother even more so because of the scene this rude waitress created. I took my mother home and made her dinner. My mother RARELY goes out, especially to eat, because she's afraid she will spill her food on her and doesn't want to make a mess for the wait staff or be embarrassed because she spilled food on herself. So taking her out for dinner was a BIG deal and the temper tantrum from this rude waitress made my mom cry. Mind you, this waitress didn't give the patrons behind us a hard time. They also sat at a dirty booth AFTER us and she rudely cleaned their table after making snide comments to them. Needless to say, my family will NEVER spend out money at this diner again, nor will we recommend it to any of our friends who come to the area for a visit. My family and I support local business whenever we have the opportunity, however, their lack of empathy and consideration towards a visually impaired, elderly woman is not only appalling but downright despicable and I will not support that kind of business- locally owned or not. Shame on you, Dell's. Know better and be better. read more

I ordered breakfast from here one time when I was in Fostoria. It was terrible. The eggs were over cooked and browned. The home fries as they called them were terrible. They did not have hash browns. The whole thing was just gross. The restaurant itself looks old and run down. I think they have been there for like 50 years or something like that and it looks it. No reason they can't remodel the inside. I'll doubt I'll go back there next time I'm in Fostoria. If I want breakfast again I'll spend my money at the Bob Evan's. read more

Walking down memory lane. Ate at Dell's in the late 1960's & early 1970's. Surprised it was still open. Glad it was. Our party of three sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant. I don't think the floor layout has changed in all the years. We ordered two cheese burgers & fries and a Monday Special of Beef & Noodle along with two sodas. All that was less than $35. DEAL. Burgers were nice size patties with perfectly toasted buns. Beef and noodles were served over REAL mashed potatoes. The noodles were not homemade which for the price was expected. Generous chunks of meat were found throughout the dish. Oh forgot to say a salad bar was included with the Special. I was pleasantly surprised to find a picked beat juice whole egg. What was I doing in Fostoria you ask? Driving to nowhere one day, I stumbled across this gem. In "downtown" Fostoria. It's been around since the 30's, and before that was a bar. The owners and staff were sweet as pie. They have an awesome vintage lunchbox collection, and as I admired it, the owner gave me a guidebook to look at their value. I ordered up a pulled pork sandwich, and the BBQ sauce, AWESOME. So awesome in fact, I bought a freshly jarred batch from the counter. The fries that came with it were splendid, not greasy and still had the skin. My fave. I loved that there were old man townies in there just eating meatloaf and hitting the salad bar. If you are in Fostoria, stop in there. Heck, even if you aren't, pull over and go. Just to look at the Partridge Family lunchbox. read more

I was hesitant about going here, for good reason. I was hoping since they had a BBQ sign in the window they would have a decent meat selection. But, I was disappointed and found myself wishing I had went somewhere else. The meat wasn't smoked and it was extremely tough and dry. The sauce came on the sandwich and didn't have very good flavor and was somewhat sour. I wouldn't recommend this place in the future and will not be returning. Nothing at all special. Beef brisket dinner with fries and "salad bar". The salad bar was tiny and didn't have much for choices. The brisket was OK, but nothing to rave about. Good fries, with skin. Service was slow and not that friendly. The decor was terrible. Badly in need of an update. The walls have neat pictures of the main street area in the past, but they have the walls filled with old lung boxes that makes the place feel dated and well, icky. Good bbq I like it enough that I've gotten it catered and I'm a big supporter of anything local. I've always thought of the place as a hidden gem. However, the past few times I've tried to order I've been unsuccessful. This last time was unfortunately the last straw. We have always just ordered a pound of pork and brisket which I tried to do today but was unable to. In stead of politely explaining why I couldn't place my order I spoke with a man who very rudely told me I couldn't place my order because "I might not have enough for my customers" implying that I am not a customer? Maybe he thought I wanted our order for free?? Not sure what his thought process was but I am sure that City BBQ is just as good and they have a better selection and a more friendly staff. Hopefully the people of Dells will treat their remaining "customers" better and they won't lose any more. read more

This place is in the middle of no where, so wasn't looking for a lunch place with nice decor. I ordered the pull pork sandwich which was very good. My wife had the meatloaf, which she said was ok. We went with another couple on September 1, 2018 for dinner. It was a terrible experience! Our ribs were cold in the middle, the salad bar was a mess, and apparently the air conditioning wasn't working because it was stifling hot. To remedy the cold ribs, the waitress just microwaved them in a microwave on the back counter. Our waitress waited on us while talking on her cell phone about child care and was eating crackers while she closed our bills. She did not bother to wash her hands after eating...... which is inexcusable. Frankly, this place suffers from management being absent and a lack of passion from the remaining staff. The place needs a good cleaning. We will never be back and absolutely will not recommend this place to others. The Health Department needs to check the salad bar because the macaroni salad and other mixed salads were warm and not chilled. When I asked about it, the waitress said "oh if they get too warm, we just replace them." We would be embarrassed to recommend this place. read more

We ate here for the first time after a memorial service and were pleasantly surprised! We had about 20 people in our party and ordered off the menu and they had our food out in about 15 minutes which was amazing! They have a great salad bar and they have every kind of Manhatten you can think of. We were so impressed we want back there the following weekend to eat! read more

I'm in Fostoria for a week and I stopped at Dell's for lunch and was thrown back in time. The place has been around for 75 years and they have a collection of old lunch boxes on the walls. It's an old fashioned diner that serves BBQ too. They have a big smoker on the sidewalk outside. To tell you the truth, I'd rather eat in these little hole in the walls with good food than in 4 star restaurants. If your watching you waistline, this is not your place. Some of the menu: The Redman Burger, Gator Chomps, fries and Swamp Sauce, pulled pork, home fries with sausage gravy, Oreo cheesecake. I had the lunch version of the pulled pork sandwich and fries for $4.99. The pork was tasty and shredded just right with just a squirt of BBQ sauce so it didn't overpower the meat. Good sauce too. The fries were handcut with skin on and very good. Service was friendly and I'll be going back while I'm in town. A hidden gem! read more
